>>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

Lambert was a Hobey Baker finalist. That does make the program look impressive and successful.

I disagree, personally. For the purposes of a bunch of RIT fans I might agree, but for something going out to a wider audience of hockey fans, some of whom know little/nothing of the college game, it's much more relevant to include names that they will actually know. For all the points Lambert scored for RIT, he never even touched the professional game in the US and currently plays hockey in, wait for it...Belfast. He does not make our program look impressive or successful. That being said, I did include him - I just also included Tanev and Pinner.

I understand why you would think that Tanev should be included, but if we're being honest about his impact to RIT hockey it's pretty small. And no where near a "greatest player" at RIT. But whatever, it's of no real importance to me.

Being one of 2-3 players to carry us to our greatest Division 1 moment to date, I would say he's had a more profound impact than most.

PTI but Mar has started AHA Pick'em up again.

First game is this weekend.

It's cool to see Noyes getting some recognition in the USCHO article today. It's kind of sad that he's the only senior to make that list, which we all know is because of early abandonment.

This...
and...
As far as single season performances go, Tanev should be pretty close to # 1, if not # 1. The fact that an RIT player was capable of having an NHL organization lure him away after one season speaks volumes for the talent level he had that not many (or really any) other RIT players have had.
Career-wise, I don't disagree that his program impact is minimal, but the fact that his talent was a huge factor in leading RIT to it's best season and only real national recognition to date has to be a factor.
And, as I've stated before, he did score the single biggest (most impactful) goal in RIT hockey history.

Looks like it probably would based off the other sports that are canceling. Seems the coaching \ support staff are considered civil-service employees who are now furloughed.
Their sports-information officer can't respond to official request regarding this since he's been furloughed at the moment.

Please no! That's like 6 AHA games lost and my only chance at seeing RIT play this year gone.

If this thing drags on until February, I think we'll have bigger issues to worry about than a few missed games.

Suggest the cadets co-op at the arena so at least their home games can go on.

Tanev only played 1 year so that is why I didn't include him. He had a good year, but in terms of what he did as a collegian, he doesn't compare with any of the ones I mentioned. I really debated putting him in, but really the only reason to add him is that he is the only player to make it to the NHL.

Pinner was a very good player, and certainly could have been added. I think if he had played 1 more year, I would have added him. I felt that players that won National POY needed some run.

I pointed this out over there, but I'm surprised that no one here remembers that Tanev isn't the only player to make it to the NHL. Pinner played 12 games with the Canucks last year.

Pinner was the first Tiger to sign a professional contract BUT it took him longer to get to the NHL. He played many years in the ECHL and AHL before almost making the 2011-12 Canucks (from what I understand) before a shoulder injury in training camp wiped out his whole season. Tanev was with the Canucks the season after he left RIT ... that actually was the year they were in the Cup Finals against Boston and I think he played 3-4 games in that series.

Although Pinner is starting this season on the IR with the Panthers (https://twitter.com/FlaPanthers/status/382539147145412608). He has such bad luck with injuries :(
