>>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

Confirmation bias. The results are bad, but perhaps not really as bad as we all like to think.

I have a family member who just graduated from Niagara (didn't say I was proud), and after four years there he still says to me things like ... "I don't understand why it's so hard for us to beat RIT, we beat everyone else." Really!

I encourage you to research the last 20 years of Niagara vs RIT matchups and report back RIT's record.

Better yet, Prof's family member should do the research and get back to him.

I encourage you to read more carefully. I will stick 100% by what I wrote (and I actually checked the records before I wrote it). RIT is not dominated by Niagara in every game, RIT can beat Niagara, and the records are not as skewed as many say. I agree ... it sucks, but it is not like RIT has no chance of beating Niagara, that's total BS. And the sample size is still incredibly small.

Exactly! There's a reason he didn't go to RIT! (Did I go there, no I couldn't have gone there.)

Unfortunately there's an adage that applies here ... something with horseshoes, hand grenades, and winning...

I think Winters was referring to what you quoted your NU alum family member said, not what you said.
Says a lot for a Niagara education if this person really believes that it is "so hard for" NU to beat RIT. Maybe not much of a hockey fan?

On another note... My theory (as I may have stated before) is that for most of the D-I era and even the last season and a half of the D-III era of the series between these two teams, Niagara has pretty much just been the better team. RIT played hard and played with them most of the time because it's not like they're out of their league with NU or anything, but they just didn't seem good enough to get over the hump and win. Then as we've all seen, these things snowball and now they probably have a hard time believing that they will win even though they're certainly capable of doing so.

The team is selling the black, white, and some orange jerseys this year. Contact Jeff Siegel at jssatl@rit.edu for details if you are interested.

The fact that there are that many ties shows that. I'm curious how many overtime and one goal losses the Tigers have the Niagara. I would not be surprised if there are a bunch of one goal games in the L column.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

Looks like the AHA made some policy changes. We're going up to 14 scholarships per team by 2015. This is great for the AHA, but maybe not so great for RIT...

I think RIT has done pretty will without scholarships so far, but this will be a disadvantage for the Tigers. I hope the RIT Financial Aid department is going to look at ways to help RIT hockey (within the rules of course).

I think, even though you're a play-up, you're still subject to the D-III financial aid rules which means the $$ going to the athletes cannot be a greater % than to the rest of the student body.

This is correct. I also stated within the rules. I have heard that some of the players that RIT coaches have wanted could not get the aid needed.

And congrats to your lacrosse squad who will be travelling to Philadelphia next weekend against the winner of Salibury/Stevenson. The Liberty League rules!!!

I didn't go back that far but here are the game by game break downs. Tigers score is to the left. Of course when I save this, it will kill the formatting and I'm too tired to code the breaks. * denotes play-off \ finals game

2013 2 = 2 3 = 3 4 = 6 2 = 3 1 = 2 OT
2012 0 = 0 1 = 4 2 = 2 OT * 2 = 1 OT
2011 1 = 4 2 = 5 3 = 3
2010 2 = 3
2009 2 = 6
2008 3 = 3
2007 3 = 5
2006 2 = 3

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

That being said... would an outside group, say RIT alumni, be able to pay athletes to play for RIT? I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but I'm curious of any potential loop holes.

Why is UCONN still playing a fully AHA schedule? Wasn't this past season their last in AHA?
