Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

Here are the attendance numbers for the last few years at the AHA tourney:

2008 Semi-Final with RIT = 3933, Final non-RIT = 1468
2009 Semi-Final with RIT = 2,555, Final non-RIT = 827
2010 Semi-Final with RIT = 1,803, Final RIT = 3,298
2011 Semi-Final with RIT = 2,230, Final RIT = 3,400
2012 Semi-Final with RIT = 3,287, Final RIT = 2,433
2013 Semi-Final with non-RIT = 1,095, Final non-RIT = 887

With RIT playing, the numbers are okay but when they are out of the tournament, the numbers are cut in half or more. Depends if the teams are within easy reach or not, weather too.
Hmmmmm... interesting. The Polisseni Center would handle all of those attendance numbers very nicely. :)

Keep in mind, some of those Semi-Finals were RIT Friday 3pm games. You basically can see that in the lower numbers. So there a little more to those numbers when you dig deeper...

As part of RIT's continued "appreciation" for season ticket holders, they have scheduled the pre-game reception for Valentine's Day. So those of us with significant others who had plans in mind slightly more romantic than dinner in a gymnasium are out of luck.

This program just keeps on giving me reasons to be sad.

Huh. And most people here think I am a moron, idiot, or whatever I get called in neg rep, for my complaints about RIT's marketing of the hockey program. Yet evidence continues to build supporting my claim.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

Exactly. TigerFan is missing the important fact that Blue Cross wasn't chosen because of RIT
Seriously?!?!?
While the other reasons you mentioned were certainly a part of the decision, do you REALLY believe that BCA's proximity to RIT, its fan base, and its competitiveness had NOTHING to do with it??? Really?!?!? Please. If RIT did not join, BCA wouldn't have even been in the discussion. My claim was not that they only came here because of RIT. If RIT were located in California they would not have brought it to their city. But combined with the facts that RIT has a fan base and was competitive enough to have a reasonable chance to get there more often than not, the geographic convenience for all other teams and other stuff made BCA a great choice. If RIT had no fans and didn't indicate any intention of being competitive, I guarantee it would have been a much more difficult sell.
I was actually surprised at some of those attendance numbers listed for the non-RIT games. I wonder how many of those ticket holders actually had their fannies in the seats. I would assume most of them were there, but by the looks of some of those games I wouldn't be surprised if those numbers were inflated a bit (as small as they were).
Honestly, they would probably be guaranteed to make much more money having the entire tournament on the home ice of the higher ranked teams all the way through. Someone said of that possibility "It smacks of second rate conference desperation". All I can say with respect to that with the AHA is: If the shoe fits...

If you're interested in doing something romantic with your significant other on Valentine's day, why is an RIT hockey game on the docket to begin with (unless you're both huge fans and that actually may be romantic in a way)? No one's holding a gun to your head to attend the gymnasium buffet rather than a nice dinner out with your wife or husband.

Considering the initial decision was made before RIT started conference play, I suspect competitiveness wasn't a consideration.

Woooooosh.

That's exactly why putting this event on Valentine's Day is a terrible idea. You're taking an already small, niche population and cutting it down significantly by placing the event on that day. It's going to have half the attendance it should have. It's a slap in the face to any season ticket holder.

Really? REALLY? A slap in the face? That's a bit of an exaggeration.

If you were going to the game on Valentine's Day, you weren't having a nice dinner out with the significant other unless you are going out at 4:00 at the very latest - and that would be pushing it. Friday at 5 is a tough enough sell for any non-students because of work. From what I recall, this event has never been very highly attended, which is a shame. They really should move these to Saturdays.

No comments on last night's game? I thought they showed a lot of heart and effort last night in getting the tie. They had to come back from 3 different 1 goal deficits. Naturally, they made some mistakes, both physically and mentally, but I was pleased with the effort from the people that played. Hopefully the guys who were scratched that play tonight will follow suit.

I agree. Special teams were solid... 2 for 4 on the PP. Rotolo was good in goal and grew in confidence as the game progressed. The Tigers were not "great" but they were good and played with heart and determination.

The game played out like it was a 8-9 game in the AHA in quality. Both teams made their share of mistakes. I hope tonight's game is better played by the right team :).

If you were going to the game on Valentine's Day

I think the point is that more people would go to the game (and thus the reception) if it wasn't on Valentine's Day.

Ugghh Holy Cross got outplayed, really, and still won. Something just isn't right. I was here tonight watching in person. I saw a very strong effort, a couple mistakes turned in HC goals.. but really I would be livid if I was an RIT player. Something just isn't right. Maybe Wayne has given up on them and they feel it, I don't know. When I hear him talk its like his heart isn't there. Two really beautiful powerplay goals. At least they have that. The entire womens team even made their way over to the corner crew and sat down with like 8 minutes left to go. I thought for sure they'd win. Leaving ritter with a bit of an empty feeling. Ah well...

Watched the game on Time-Warner tonight. I agree with you sentiment, something just isn't right...just not clicking...can't put my finger on it, that's the coaches job to figure this out, if anybody has their pulse, Coach Wilson does. Anyhow, I just hope they don't slip into the lower third of the standings.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

Well, what do you say about tonight... and this weekend? We played better tonight especially for the first and second periods. Again our PP was strong. There were strong performances by several of our players. Our goal tending was good. But, we came away with one point on a weekend that should have been a four pointer for the Tigers.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

First two periods of tonight's game were every bit as exciting and intense as last night, very fun to watch, and RIT was playing well. Having scored late in the 2nd to take the lead, I kind of thought we'd come out hard in the 3rd..

Sadly the 3rd was one of our worst periods that I've seen. Sloppy mistakes by the defense, and (other than on the PP) very little meaningful zone time and tons of offensive zone puck possession problems. It felt like there was a solid 10 minute stretch where our entire offensive zone time consisted of a single skater taking the puck in without any support, pushing it behind the net once he got tied up...turnover, Holy Cross breakout.

Rotolo wasn't stellar tonight, but overall for the weekend he played well enough to win both games and RIT just didn't make it so.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

Seems like they never have anybody in front of the goal when a pass is sent that way or a rebound sits out there for the taking.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

I think we're missing a lot of little pieces, and it's adding up to one big hole.

- We have injuries to some of our top scorers -- all upperclassmen. We've been without Garbowsky and Mitchell for a while, but against Holy Cross we also missed Lynch. They've been some of our most reliable goal-scorers, and we didn't have them.

- We have a slightly weak defensive corps. Our senior class never developed into lock-down d-men, and our only junior is Brownell, who never plays. The rest of our D is young but has a lot of potential.... but at the moment, we lack a true lock-down defensive pairing.

- We have slightly unsteady goaltending. Good but not great.

- They seem to lack chemistry as a team. They send passes to no one, fail to be in position when a puck comes out into the opponents' slot, and look awkward in transition.

Change any one of those things and we might well be able to compensate for the others. But the combination of all of them is deadly.

Our power play is really good, though. And I noticed that 5-on-5 in the offensive zone, there were big gaps where there should be a player. My theory: the unsteady defense and goaltending is forcing them to keep both D-men at the blue line, keeping them from pinching in. So we have D-men at the blue line, two guys fighting for the puck in the corner, one forward off to the side to receive a pass, and no one in the slot ready to fire the puck at the net.

On Friday I thought the team battled pretty **** well. It was nice to see them keep coming back but it was also distrubing to see them keep getting themselves in a hole. However, overall it was a good effort.

I didn't see Saturday's game (yet) so I can't comment. However, TW is replaying it tomorrow night (I think) so I will record and watch later.

I agree with this statement overall. It's not like the team is awful it just a lot of smallish things that are not getting done or not clicking the way it needs to. I also think that for whatever reason the team cannot compete for 60 minutes (although this does seem to be improving somewhat). The lapses where they don't compete is killing them. Every team has those odd shifts or even a small string of them but more often than not it seems that RIT takes a whole period or most of a period off.
