I think you're right about this. Sometimes you don't know what you're really getting..guys light the world on fire in juniors then flop at the next level all the time. The thing about Hamburg is that looking at his numbers in juniors....they really aren't all that impressive. Too lazy to look into it now but I'm fairly certain we've had players with better numbers in juniors come to RIT both before and since him.

Wouldn't the fact that this is a team sport make your assumptions here incorrect? You could have mad skills but if the other 5 players on the ice with you aren't clicking, I imagine your individual stats are going to suffer.

You'd have to have the skills of a Gretzky or Orr to really stand out or possibly carry your team.

Take Ruby for example, he came in mid-season last year and had a good year. He started off well (but not great) this year but let's face it, the defense isn't what it should have been and both he and Rotolo's game has suffered for it.

As the defense played better starting in the second Bentley game, Ruby's numbers have gotten better which leads me to believe that having a total team affects how well players do, regardless of which level they are on.

My take on the weekend:

While it was a much needed 4 points I don't see this as any indication that a corner has been turned. RIT once again handled a team that they should. Army put up a lot of shots, but from the game I saw just throw to many pucks at the nets and credit Ruby he made the saves he should, with one exception. When you look deeper you see RIT still needs to prove it can beat the better teams in conference this year.

The big negative to me was that two Senior Defense men gave back to back half you know what efforts and allowed two goals quick goals which completely changed the game Saturday night. Just was awful lapses that left the slightly educated fan screaming where the heck are you going?!?! Also despite the good performance of stopping about everything piece of junk Army throw at him, and making some very nice saves in the process. I am unable to find a reason how Ruby knocked a harmless looking, not even shot, it was a puck thrown at the side of the net and Ruby just botched it and left a rebound goal to quickly eliminate Cole's insurance goal. Again a soft goal at a very bad time. Nice to see the team bail him out, but these are things you just can not do if your going to be in the top of the league.

RIT has a chance, again, to prove in the coming week that it belongs in the top of the AHA. But this up and down play leaves the most optimistic fan still worried about when they have to face the big bad bear. It was a strange sweep this weekend. Despite the shutout and the 4 points I still do not feel comfortable with this team. I want them to prove my gut feeling wrong in so many ways...

As Wayne said, one game at a time...

It looks a little small seating wise and the seats don't seem to be very steep. Are we sure the capacity will be 4,000? But I sure do love How low that ceiling is!

I remember reading somewhere that the bowl was as steep as building codes would allow (i.e., pretty darn steep).

4200 is as official as I've seen.

Also if you look at the last picture on that page, from center ice, that probably gives the best idea of the steepness of the bowl as it appears to be taken at the top of the stairs looking down at the ice. Seems pretty good to me.

The interior pictures from this and the last update are much appreciated. Likely that the pitch of the seating won't be quite as steep as the Ritter, as codes have changed considerably in 45 years. All in all, I'm pretty impressed. The concourses will add great space and don't look to impact too much on the arena bowl too much. That coupled with the low ceiling should give it a nice cozy feeling. Not sure why the press boxes are situated as they are from the red line to the south end rather than being more centered over the red line. But, just my preference for symmetry. Hoping that they are putting the suites on the 2nd level on the west side of the ice. One of the early renditions had them taking up sections of the railing. That approach would seem to be a mistake to me. They did pouring concrete on the roof over the west concourse, hopefully in anticipation of making that the floor of the suites.

Can't wait to see the real thing next season.

The press box plans I saw had TV cameras at the north end of the press box and that would put them right at center ice. Radio and TV announce booths will be between the blue and red lines, which is great, particularly as compared to the Ritter.

I sure hope there is! Standing room is what makes The Ritter intimidating.

I thought the major was iffy. The suspension is baffling. If goalies are going to have an aura of protection around them, they shouldn't be allowed to get in the way of a player going for the puck.

I didn't see the play so I can't comment. However I am always going against the goalie should be fair game theory. Their equipment is not design to stop people from hitting them, it's design to stop pucks. When they are out of the net you have to do everything reasonable to avoid contact. I am amazed that people suggest this, if your guy runs over a goaltender, how long do you think it will be before your goaltender gets run????

Schuler ran their goalie because they ran Ruby (albeit to a less flagrant level) at least 4 times prior. Following the major, neither team ran the goalies again.

The hit looked at lot worse from the center ice camera than it did from the camera angle in the corner. Nevertheless, the league doesn't want to see this happen at all and so the suspension.

It's unfortunate that the officials didn't think that way about the four times Ruby was run. One of those times, RIT even ended up short-handed because of the after-the-whistle stuff. Had the officials enforced things earlier, I don't think Schuler would have seen the need to reciprocate.

I'm already abundantly on the record about my opinion of the quality of officiating in the league, so I'll leave it at that.
