Interesting that Ruby started tonight...definitely didn't expect that. Looks like he had a decent game too....I really hope this doesn't give Wilson the idea of platooning, though. That's not a good idea for any of the goalies.

At least the effort was better tonight. The lousy officiating didn't help, of course, but that's not an excuse.

Better effort and the teams seemed pretty even tonight but yeah, the officiating didn't help, especially on the penalty call leading up to the 3rd goal.

It sounded like the first goal that he allowed was a bit soft. When your team is struggling as bad as the Tigers had been, you have to be very careful and can't allow weak goals.

What's odd is Rotolo lead the team out in warmups, but Ruby lead them out when it came time for the game. I missed part of the postgame and don't know if this was addressed. Anyone know what happened?

First goal started up as a mix-up between Ruby and one of his defenders. Both went for a puck behind the Tiger net which slowed down getting it out. A Bentley player flew in and stole it and got it past Ruby before he reset in crease.

Ruby played a good game last night, stopped some tough shots and if not for the empty netter and that first goal, would have ended a 2-1 game.

Coach Wilson said the decision to start Ruby was made well before the game.

The good news is we should get an easy 4 points this weekend, which could put us as high as 5th (though unlikely). Lot of hockey yet to be played..

HAHAHAHA! You're not serious are you? After these past two weekends I don't see how any games can be considered "easy". Winnable, yes. Easy, no.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

I would not consider any points "Easy" as this point...anything can happen any night, as we have seen. Army played two close games against Air Force from what it sounded like.

I wish I could sufficiently roll my eyes at you over the internet. RIT is a lot better than 3-16 in both our play and our record. We have to treat two games against the basement of AHA, at home, as sure things.

Army typically plays Air Force extremely tough and pretty much every year Army plays probably its most complete games against their rival service academy. The record and play (outside of a super rivalry series) speak for itself.

We didn't exactly put AIC, basement dweller extraordinaire, away decisively this season. To boot, now we don't have a goal tender. Or a defense.

Look at what AIC was doing when they came to town. Chris Lerch wrote a whole article about them because they started strong, something that RIT broke. Even now AIC has a record pretty close to ours (and is in 9th vs 12th).

No guaranteed win(s) this weekend. However, it'll be good to have a bunch of home games to go to over the coming weeks. I hope the attendance is strong and that our Tigers "show up" for each game. Could be some exciting games ahead, or...?

It's easy:

No doubt RIT is better than 3-16 but to think those games will be "easy" is not smart. Yes, RIT should win and should go in with the attitude that they can beat Army if they play a solid game. But to say "easy" after the way this team has played this season is misguided at best. Your kind of thinking about games being "easy" is how a team looses to a bottom feeder. And to your "easy" games I say:

I bet Denver and UNH thought that they would easily beat RIT...

So... whose ready for baseball season?

I have to admit I am a little more excited for my fantasy draft and watching the Cardinals than I am about the rest of the RIT Hockey Season. Win Streak has completely been undone...

Coach Wilson has some problems...

Forwards who have talent but seem to take nights off...
An Even more Jackal and Hyde Blue Line...
Flip a Coin on Goaltending...

Anyone check the web cam on the new arena lately?

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

Well I am glad to see others having similar views about the terrible performance of our defensemen. Our goalies are trying their best and besides the few bad goals they let in I feel its mostly the defense who often blows their coverage and allows the other team to get a player the opportunity to score they shouldn't have.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

I expect a split this weekend. Something has to give. Neither team is feeling good about their recent results.

RIT lost 4 straight games to UNCONN and Bentley on the road and played poorly over stretches of those four games.

Army has lost five games to Providence, Mercyhurst, and Air Force at home and was in every one of those games until late when the better skilled team won out over the better fit team. The prior series to those games they lost a laugher to Canisius 8-2 which was their worse loss of the year and then came out the next night and played three complete buzzsaw periods and beat Canisius 2-0. No Canisius player thought they were going to lose that second night after trouncing Army the night before but before they knew what hit them Canisius players were leaving the ice 2-0 losers.

What Army lacks in pedigree when matched on paper with other AHA teams they make up for in intensity and grit.

If RIT doesn't put Army away early and let's Army hang around I look for a slugfest in both games as RIT will not be able to "toe drag" their way through an easy four point weekend against Army. Army does have offensive issues but I see an emerging legitimate goal scorer in Army freshman R.J. Reuschlein, a lefty with a terrific wrist shot. A lot of Army's goals this year seem to be individual effort goals (ie shooting for the top corner on a tough angle instead of passing to the far post) but their offense has improved over the course of the schedule so if they can put it together this will be no easy weekend for RIT.

If RIT can match Army's intensity and hussle in both games then yes four points should be expected but RIT will not take four points on skill alone, hence I expect a split.

How 'bout them Yellowjackets? Just beat UMASS 3-2 after being outshot 59-18. Way to go AIC, when one AHA team wins a NC game, we all win.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

AIC got great goaltending to win that game.

Proof that the league is more difficult is that even lower level AHA teams are winning non-conference games. That rarely happened when RIT joined the league. While the overall OOC record of the conference still leaves something to be desired, I think part of it is that teams are taking games against the AHA more seriously because they have been winning a bit more.
