I agree 100%.

It's going to be a serious battle to get into the top 4 this year. Yes, I say that fully aware that there are only 5 teams ahead of RIT right now.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

RIT just collapsed over the break it seems. Besides that did anyone try and listen to Bleacher Banter on Saturday? It looks like they weren't airing an episode even though WITR was advertising it the night before.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

No doubt we're all disappointed with this past weekends results. I am hoping it was just a bad weekend and they can get back to winning next weekend. If you had to venture an opinion, with sixteen league games remaining (six eastern pod and ten western pod), do you think RIT can play better than .500 over that stretch? Personally I think that would be quite an accomplishment for this current team, no doubt it would place them firmly in the upper half of the league heading into the playoffs. I would love to see it but no small feat.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

There should be a lot of soul searching after Saturday's debacle. I think a lot of RIT fans were optimistic of a split after game 1 when it was a close game and a few shots just didn't get in. But to see an effort like what actually happened is bad. Now they have to go up against a Bentley team that is playing extremely well. This is not a good situation.

The problem I see is that 10 of those games are vs. teams above RIT in the standings. For a team playing well, that's an opportunity, but ...

Just going statistically at this point (which is not justified at all), RIT loses 10 and wins 6 and finishes in the lower half. Let's hope some form of "effort" overcomes those (admittedly weak) statistics. I'm still hoping for a top 4 finish, but if I had to bet, I'd say middle 4.

Those results seem pretty realistic. RIT has yet to beat a "challenging" AHA opponent.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

Well from just reading box scores it seems to be back to square one for RIT. Without a doubt Rotolo's worst looking box score, will have to seek more information on the goals he let in, but those number scream ugly. The streak they were on was nice, but just had an uneasy feel to it. No disrespect for UCONN, they have earned two impressive sweeps from Western POD team, but as they say it's not that RIT loses, but how they lose that seems to be the most disheartening issue.

I am just perplexed with this year's team lack of ability to finish at times. A team mostly intact from last year that had no trouble scoring is now going through long and un-explainable periods of not being able to thrown the puck into the Ocean. The Inconsistency seems to point to this team being at least a year away from serious contention. A similar result this weekend against Bentley would make me consider this team getting to Blue Cross a major accomplishment, going to the NCAA overachieving...

I don't know if I'd say "no trouble scoring". The numbers may support a good scoring clip, but it sure seems to me like this year is more of the same from last year. Maybe most of our goals last year came in a few big wins?

It seems like we've really lacked a natural scoring touch for at least a couple of years now. Some of it may be improved goaltending, but that can't be all of it. And other teams can score on these 'tenders, so what's different about RIT?

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

Powers we've been through this argument before. Last year's RIT team outscored all of the AHA with the exception of Mercyhurst and I think the Lakers only had like 6 goals more and something like 5 games more than RIT. I also don't remember to many blow outs on RIT. The problem last year was the Tigers could not keep the puck out of the net. This year it's inconsistent, either they can't get it in, or keep it out... Sounds like a bad porno to anyone else?

Remember that we did lose Garbowsky for the season. I also would venture to say that teams are now focusing on the Skirving line since that was putting up a lot of points.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

This is not true. RIT scored 6+ goals in three games last season, which has been the norm since 09-10 season. Below is the # of games RIT has scored 6+ goals in a game.

09-10: 5 games
10-11: 3 games
11-12: 2 games
12-13: 3 games
13-14: 1 games (~ half a season)

This year it's inconsistent, either they can't get it in, or keep it out...

This may seem true but statistically it is not. The distribution of the number of goals RIT scores in a game is about the the same as it has been over the past 5 seasons. It's just that the overall scoring is down by almost 0.4 goals per game compared to last season.

So it's slightly less scoring and the defensive capabilities of a sponge. The AHA gets better, and RIT continues to flounder.

Less scoring for sure. Goals/game:

09-10: 3.537
10-11: 3.368
11-12: 2.538
12-13: 3.211
13-14: 2.833

Not sure if I would call it "defensive capabilities of a sponge" but it is getting worse. Goals allowed/game:

09-10: 2.195
10-11: 2.605
11-12: 2.205
12-13: 3.316
13-14: 3.222

The real disturbing item for me is the number of games RIT has allowed 6+ goals in a game:

09-10: 1
10-11: 2
11-12: 1
12-13: 7
13-14: 2

I still say the numbers don't tell the whole story. I remember plenty of instances last season when we needed a momentum-changing goal and never got it. All the goals in the world don't make up for not having them when you need them.

I summarized last season as one where RIT can put up 4-5 goals a game and still lose. We definitely seem to put a lot of shots on net and hold a lot of possesion, but rarely cash in on it.

Whether or not the goals were "momentum changing" is a different subject and one I didn't attempt to answer as it is opinion. You asked:
Maybe most of our goals last year came in a few big wins?
and I answered it. You might not like the answer but it is factual.

I summarized last season as one where RIT can put up 4-5 goals a game and still lose.

This is not true also. It may seem that way but it is not. Of the 14 games last season where RIT scored 4+ goals their record was 11-3. The opposite is also true, in that when RIT opponents score 4+ goals in a game then RIT is probably going to lose (2-11 record). But of course this would more than likely hold true for any team in the nation.

I can't be the only one who isn't freaking out about losing two games to UCONN on the road, can I?

UCONN was under-performing given their roster. They are two years into their ramp up for the move to Hockey East. The number of full-ride players they have has gone up and the quality of their recruits has likewise increased. They are a team that should be better than most of the AHA at this point...as it stands they are in 3rd so we shouldn't have expected an easy weekend.

Friday was a one goal game that RIT might easily have tied given a few more minutes of play as momentum was on their side. I think losing a 1 goal game to a top 3 AHA team on the road is more good than bad.

Saturday was a bad game, but that is going to happen once and awhile to every team, every year. I'm not going to extract too much meaning from one bad showing. Quinnipiac was the #1 ranked team last year when they got beat by AIC, didn't mean they were suddenly doomed. We're still 5-2-1 in our last 8, we're still well within striking distance of the top 4 AHA.

I am not freaking out about the losses but probably for a different reason. I honestly didn't really expect anything better than a split and that was kind of hopeful thinking. I don't think this team is very good so about the only losses I would get freaked out over would be to be swept by Army and Holy Cross.

Getting a point out of this weekend would be nice. I think that is realistically all that can be expected.
