Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

Overall, the results of December don't bode well for the Tigers. A mediocre performance by RIT against Niagara, Air Force with two BIG wins snapping their losing streak, and Bently continuing their undefeated streak. The road to the NCAAs juts seems to be getting harder and harder.

Looking at UConn's tournament, it will be interesting to see what Husky team the Tigers will face. On the one hand, they lost to Sacred Heart. On the other, they beat UMass. This will be a big series for both teams when you see that both teams are tied for 3rd in the conference.

4-0-1 is was asking a lot from this team and RIT got that. We should be happy RIT got those results. Let's see if they can surprise us again.

I didn't have time to check if this is who I think it is but I noticed Matthew Serratore of Penticton (BCHL) is heading to Air Force next season. I think this is Tom Serratore (Bemidji State) kid???

The road to the NCAAs was always going to be tough. Anyone who thought otherwise was only fooling themselves. Most teams have played 9 or 10 games and the worst team has 6 points. Anyone can beat anyone. The winner of the conference tournament will earn it. There are going to be "upsets" in the regular season and the tournament. Sure Bentley and Air Force are hot now, but will they be hot come the end of February? I think it's safe to say nobody saw Canisius coming last year.

Excellent post. A lot of parity in the AHA this season. Should be an entertaining second half.

Yes. Tom's son; Frank's nephew.

You're so bloody pessimistic. Only you could take a 5-0-1 streak and say it doesn't bode well, while pointing out the single game they didn't win. ignoring the fact it was played in bad conditions and, by the third period, RIT was down 2 players.

RIT would have been hard pressed to end the year in any better shape than it did. That's the truth.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

I'd much rather be pessimistic and pleasantly surprised than the opposite.

RIT is heading in the right direction. Stringing the wins together has put them back on course. I wouldn't over value the wins though; they were against weak opponents. RIT hasn't taken points away from the strong teams in this conference yet. While I hope we swoop into top 2 and remain there the rest of the season, I'm not convinced it's likely.

A sweep this weekend (by no means easy, or even expected) and things will be looking very bright for the Tigers, but there are still a lot of games to be played.

Frank's son plays for Minnesota. There are three AHA head coaches who have kids playing D-I: Serratore, Army coach Brian Riley (son plays for Mercyhurst - out with a hand injury) and Wilson's son at Yale.

RIT has never swept in four trips to UConn - Loss and a tie and three splits.

Looks like Torf is seriously hurt.

While I don't wish this stuff on anyone, it can definitely have some big impacts on the standings.

From The Gazette:

Air Force will resume Atlantic Hockey Association play this weekend at American International College missing its most important player, senior goalie Jaso

n Torf, and a valuable center in sophomore Ben Carey.

Falcons coach Frank Serratore said both will not play. Torf suffered a groin injury late in Monday's 3-2 upset win over No. 4 Providence in the championship of the 25th annual Ledyard Bank Classic in Hanover, N.H.

Serratore said the severity of Torf's injury will not be known until the team returns to Colorado Springs and the senior undergoes an MRI.

"Hopefully it will not be season ending," Serratore said. "He's our best player. He's our backbone."

Carey suffered a dislocated shoulder when he was driven into the boards by a Friar during the second period. The team stayed in the Boston area as planned after the two tournament games.

Month and a half till the Tigers visit AFA so only time will tell how this works out for the Tigers.

If it keeps AFA out of the top 3... then it's pretty much working for RIT.

A little early to be saying this, but I think tonight's game is pretty close to "must win". Otherwise the Tigers will be outside and looking up at the top 4 in the standings and yet to beat a team above them in the standings. No better time to beat someone ahead of them and keep pace with Mercyhurst et al.

I didn't listen to last night's game, but the box score suggests a comeback win is in the realm of possibility.

A couple of defensive lapses seemed to be the deciding factor in last night's game leaving Rotolo to defend the goal by himself against higher numbers. If those didn't happen, it might have been a different outcome. Let's see what happens tonight.

We'd be tearing up the league if we could just get pucks behind goalies. We dominated play throughout the first and into the second but never really challenged the goalie. Same story all year... and back to last year, and even the year before that, to an extent. I don't know if we need some snipers to force defenses to respect our point shots, or if we need more big bodies who can get down low and redirect shots, but our highly skilled finesse players aren't getting it done when it comes to putting points on the board.

Rotolo gives up two goals a game (seriously, look at his numbers: 4, 2, 0, 2, 2, 2, 2) so we've gotta score three. There has to be way to get more of those shots-on-goal to keep going and end up behind the line.

Specific to last night, though, we also might have done better if we'd had a few more power plays to work with. At least the zebras called it evenly.

Welp... a little over halfway through and we're down 4. Cue incredible, amazing, 3rd period comeback?? (I have low hopes)
