Just an FYI, there is a Justin.TV stream being ran by a fantastic Rochest'onian for every RIT game televised.
I have had nothing but trouble with America 1 , try to get an answer from customer service that remotely addresses a problem you send them.
I will not use them again. You cannot reach them period.

What are the ratings on that? Perhaps that's some fuel in the fight for dumping A1. Of course, are they taking the A1 feed, or grabbing straight from the production truck?

Just be careful with that, though. Our TV crew ustream'd a few games (including a playoff series), got fined ten G.

from what I gather is they are grabbing the tv stream from twc 26 (rit has a deal with twc for all home games) and using the tv tuner and justin.tv to put it up and are in now way affiliated with the RIT production.

That would make more sense. BTW, why wouldn't a1 use the TW feed? That's typically better quality than the other streams.

Since they are already taking the feed from a high definition camera and making it look as crappy as possible, I'd expect them to do the same to the broadcast.

Good point. I recall the same issues with last year's RPI Freakout, as RPI-TV had done a similar setup. However, since it was mentioned that there is a deal with TW, that now explains to me why the school won't do their own stream. TV definitely comes over internet stream, even if you have to suffer if you are a far-away alum. The good news is that, since TWCS has grabbed a couple extra channels, you have a better chance to see more games, at least across NYS.

They use the television stream for Air Force and it looks decent. Those games make the Ritter games through A1 look like a sad joke.

Is Air Force's picture standard def, though? I think that's the big difference is that you get so much loss in converting back. If TWCS Rochester brought in their own people and equipment to do a game at Ritter, it'd look just fine over A1, since they don't do hi def.

A1 does have a left-over supercomputer from the ECAC championships, and unless they plan to use it in Atlantic City again, perhaps they'd be willing to lease it out... ;)

I've watched the AFA feed on replay on A1. It's of similar crappy resolution. The advantage the Air Force feed has is multiple camera angles and replay. The Air Force feed is the same that they show on the video scoreboard.

I had a long discussion about this last season with people who were trying to make the change to something better. They were vetoed.

Each school gets a cut for each game watched, as does the league.

It isn't that much. More like highway robbery, if you ask me. ;)

Well I wasn't going to give A1 my business again this year, but with the lockout that left ASU as the only game in town for me. I'd much rather watch RIT.

I'm curious as to how much A1 gets out of the deal. I can't imagine a lot. If attendance figures are any indication, only a handful of schools have fans that care enough about hockey for this to even work.

They actually get most of the subscription fees.

I was referring to number of subscribers to watch AHA games.

Well, if you consider the number of moochers into the equation, probably not all that many. By now, people have figured out that it's an awful quality stream and would prefer to stick to bootleg or radio. Granted, you probably have the largest percentage based upon your fan base. I'm not sure if they release ratings.

Given how awful their stream is, the best thing we can do is stick to radio or "bootleg" streams. Even though I doubt many people from the AHA watch their service, the only way to get them to change anything is to hit them where they hurt - the wallet. Less viewers, less money, and less ability to negotiate for a bigger contract from the AHA next time around.

Apologies if this has been mentioned, but I don't remember it. Looks like we're getting a hometown boy next season!

@garrettmcmullen
Couldn't be more exited to play for RIT next season #hometown #GoTigers

Looks like a pretty good pickup.

The more people go to bootleg, the more A1 will want to slap RIT for 10 G. We learned the hard way. Learn from us. ;)

They can't slap RIT for anything. It's just some individual not associated with RIT livestreaming games from his TV. There's a number of ways to do that with relatively cheap equipment. RIT is in no way associated with it, so there's no legal grounds to punish them.
