The RIT men's hockey and sports information Twitter accounts report that about 500 tickets remain for each game this weekend.

I thought coach Wilson said we would have the Air Force crew, was he referring to tomorrow night?

Don't know. Usually in league games except for Air Force, there are different crews each of the two nights.

Survey Question -

This Friday night starts a two-game home series against lowly and winless Sacred Heart. After Sacred Heart this weekend, our schedule becomes much tougher. We have played 13 games thus far this regular season with 21 to go. We all know that all teams make the AHA playoffs, so we still have a chance to win the AHA playoffs and go to the NCAA tournament. So, no matter how we finish the regular season, technically, anything can happen.

Question:
Even though this weekend's games are not a "must wins" statistically, do we essentially need to get two wins (4 points) this weekend for us to have any "real world" hope or expectation that RIT has a chance to do well this season and in the AHA playoffs?

A.) - "Yes. RIT must sweep this 2 game home series to have any realistic chance of competing against the better teams in the AHA playoffs. Not that a sweep means we are a good team either though.
If they don't sweep S.H., the team should concentrate on developing players for next season instead of playing to win this season". This could mean: playing the freshman goalie (and/or Ruby) to get him/them experience for possibly starting next season; continuing to mix forward and defensive lines to find good combinations for next season; work on line/team chemistry and familiarity that will make us better next season; play the freshmen as much as possible to get them playing experience.

B.) - "Not really. If RIT gets at least 2 points this weekend, that will be good enough to show we still have a chance to be an elite team in the AHA. We can still be very competitive in the Conference and be successful in the Playoffs. As long as we see team improvement, two or three points will be good enough this weekend. We should make the goalie who does the best this weekend (assuming we platoon goalies) the starter for the rest of the season".

C.) - "No, the season isn't half over yet. We still have plenty of time to turn things around. We are just starting the season off really slowly. Even if we get 0 points this weekend, we can still go far in the playoffs if we get hot".

D.) - "It doesn't matter how we do this weekend. We are a mediocre team at best, that doesn't have a chance in the playoffs and has no business in the NCAAs. This season we should just hope for entertaining and competitive games, and some team improvement as the season progresses. Hopefully next season is much better".

E.) Other - make up your own answer...

I pick E - I am confident that things are going to turn around - there's a butt load of talent on this team - both offensive and defensive.
It's only a matter of time before things start clicking.

Wow, from the NHL to Atlantic Hockey... can Ciamaga do any better (or worse) than Marofsky and Durfee?
Yup... he's done a few DIII games down here too. :D

I suppose during the lockout, "Will ref for food" applies!!

I thought it was a good game tonight. Certainly through the first two periods. RIT was playing well, dare I say they were even dominating. Lots of good chances and goals. Ruby wasn't exactly called on a lot early but he did decently.

However after Nolan got hit that seemed to take the wind out of their sales a bit. The 3rd period felt very pedestrian to me, like RIT wasn't taking any chances or playing with any real spring in their step. Seemed content to coast. It was good to see that they answered back the shorty so fast though. I guess that shows that they really were coasting, and were able to throw it into gear when necessary.

Ruby looked a lot better tonight, and made one of the best saves I've seen an RIT goaltender make in the 2nd. His stat line wasn't great, and you have to consider his opponent, but it was good for him to get some confidence and a win.

Although we looked pretty good tonight, I'm having a hard time telling if that's because of us or because of the level of our opposition. At times, Sacred Heart just looked bad. Terrible passing, running into each other, no cohesion. I will say RIT finally played a more physical game and that was good to see, I hope they keep that up.

Did anyone hear any word on Descoteaux? He didn't return, but I didn't hear anything else.

Lerch said probably concussion via Twitter. Not surprising, it was a cross-check to the back of the head. I'd be shocked if it wasn't a concussion.

Nice to see a win, but what I saw was a team playing a very poor game beat a very bad team (and not by much). It will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow. To give me some optimism again, I'd like to see a much more convincing, and cleanly played, win. But who knows, maybe baby steps in the right direction will do the trick.

On the TV broadcast, Hills just said that Descoteaux wouldn't be back for the 3rd and he couldn't say more. They didn't ask Wilson about him at the end of the game.

I'm shocked it wasn't a 5:00 and a game. I just looked at the replay of it and I think it was more to the front and a bit up and under. It was a two-hander to the grille.

Here's what the rulebook says:

SECTION 8. A player shall not target and make contact with an opposing player’s head or neck area in any manner (including, but not limited to, with the shoulder, stick, elbow, etc.).

PENALTY—Major and game misconduct or disqualification at the discretion of the referee.
The committee reminds coaches and players that the responsibility remains with the player making the hit to avoid contact with the head and neck area of an opposing player.

Any contact which directly targets the player’s head and neck area must be penalized with a major penalty and a game misconduct or disqualification.

(Emphasis mine.)

Well that's about as lukewarm a win as you can have at home, against a winless, last place team. The first period was very encouraging, but things seemed to regress after that.

Not just running into each other, but literally running into nothing - I was amazed how much their players would simply fall and trip out of nowhere, it was embarassing. And not to mention how they seemed to be offsides all the time.

RIT played "ok". Good passing, took alot of shots, good D (some great plays by Saracino)

Ciamaga has no eyebrows and his albinism apparently interferes with his vision given the quality of officiating tonight. At one point I saw him ask Wilson "Are you serious?!... Maybe you should come down here..." The last bit I couldn't make out, but he was very feisty.

It's pretty clear that NHL refs should stick to professional hockey. If they don't know the NCAA rules or style of play, they shouldn't be moonlighting in our leagues putting in "efforts" like that one tonight.

Also, does anyone know if Ciamaga will be there tomorrow? I don't know how the AHA reffing works - do they stay in town or will they head to somewhere nearby ie Buffalo, Erie, ect?

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

I thought RIT had a real good first period. I was nervous that they would not be rewarded with goals with it for a while. The second was not nearly as good. I thought the refs contributed to that a bit with their "calls" and non-calls. The refs were completely responsible for SH's second goal. I like the way the Tigers started out the third until that brutal giveaway on the powerplay was the same sort of thing that we have seen all year. At least they answered it back right away.

Bottom line is that this a nice win, but it also showed why these teams are near the bottom of the league.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

That was easily one of the worst officiated games I've ever watched. And I was thinking this before the 5-on-3, the scrum at the end of the 2nd, and the missed goal in the 3rd. My lord that was a joke.

Also, Shunway (I think) got away with a really risky pass immediately after RIT inexcusably turned the puck over on the PP resulting in the SH goal to make it 4-3. Yeah, the play ended up in the net, but his cross blueline pass with the opponent lurking results in an opponent's breakaway far more often than any kind of offensive chance. RIT needs to learn how to play with a lead.

The league usually swaps the crews between two nearby cities from one night to the next. The crew that was at Mercyhurst is likely to be at RIT tonight.
