hahaha now that's good stuff. don't worry, my ego is constantly deflated by the people i claim to be friends with.

Well sometimes, even the corner crew has to go after the low hanging fruit.

2. The RIT fans acknowlededged the all-tournament team Cornell-style by yelling the players last name after they were announced.

Valid points Komey, but I feel it neccesary to point out that your getting into the silly game on USCHO of people taking credits for cheers. I have never heard of this Cornell place and can't imagine we didn't invent that cheer. I mean frankly its obvious...we were the only ones you could hear doing it in a football stadium.


Enough sarcasm, this weekend was the best weekend of hockey/sports ever. I just hope that next year we can represent just as well all season long and maybe even make a trip back to the FF. I couldn't have picked a better way to end this season and my 'career' as an active student fan of RIT hockey than hanging out with the die hards saturday night. So many people all weekend showed RIT (or RITA or MIT or Rhode Island or your own personal favorite pronunciation) love both at Ford Field and all around Detroit. It was great fun. I just ope the fan performance on Saturday didn't scare to many coaches away from bringing their teams to Ritter.

Then, how about a quote from Cam Atkinson, who scored two goals for BC, concerning the RIT cheers. The article is in cbssports.com. The reporter came down and talked with a few of us during the third period. He also had a photographer, but I have not found the pictures, yet.

Players enjoy good creative taunts (non-personal ones, of course). Who doesn't? As a player, it means you probably are "important" enough to warrant a cheer/razz directed at you, and if/when you succeed, then you have thrown it back in the razzer's face.

They were all for Wisconsin in the start and that badger lady and her family went psycho and told the RIT fans that she was going to sue RIT. That made me LOL, for sure. After that they decided to root for BC because of her. And occasionally tried to help Wisconsin fans get going but they sort of suck outside of their own rink.

They were still by far the best fan base there. Without them it would have been desolate. Michigan Tech, Miami, Ferris State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and more fans also helped cheering loud and sharing cheers. I think it was a really cool thing to have all these groups work together and invent new cheers.

Exactly. Having a section filled with cheering fans was awesome. Awesome enough to draw fans of other teams to it.

# 1: I'm not an RIT fan, my loyalty is to my team, which didn't make the regionals.

# 2: Cheers unrelated to the game, like when the North Dakota fan walked by (NO MORE MAS-COT. NO MORE MAS-COT). Or when the young beautiful Erin Nichole was doing a live interview during a commercial break (WHAT'S YOUR NUMBER? WHAT'S YOUR NUMBER?). When a few Wisconsin fans swore at them it was "WASH YOUR MOUTH OUT! WASH YOUR MOUTH OUT! Nothing to do with the game, but very funny.

I have it on good authority that the "no more mascot" chant may have been started by a Michigan Tech fan and that the "wash your mouth out" chant was started by a Michigan fan of all people. Of course, neither of those cheers would have been heard without the RIT fans.

Credit to the small group of BC fans who for their numbers were fairly loud when they were cheering. Wisconsin fans suffered from being so spread out. There was one power play they went on where I could see where there fans were, and there was a good spirited group of Badgers up in the 200s, but 10 students together can't put on a show like a hundred students together.

RIT fans will go back to not caring about the team when they fade back into oblivion, but it was great to see them enjoy being there. their presence definitely helped add some sound and energy to the building, but we can't start saying things about these "amazing fans" that aren't true.

Never understimate fans from a Tech school. I mean, just look at the Michigan Tech fans on this board...and their team is awful. By staying Saturday, RIT fans showed us they are fans of college hockey, not just RIT. Those are the kind of fans I love.


Thanks to the RIT fans for improving the Frozen Four experience this year (otherwise Ford Field would have been completely miserable). Thanks to all the fans that showed up and cheered for their team. Thanks to the fans that showed up despite their team not being there (especially those wearing their school's colors...jersey bingo is fun).

And thanks to the RIT fans that came out to the Posters game. Made that game more fun too.

That lady was CRAAAAZY! And it looked like her son was about to get into a slug-fest with some of the RIT fans. I yelled at her from the next section over to calm down and move to another section, since there were plenty open seats around us and in pretty much any section. She didn't like that.

RIT fans definitely made Ford Field AND the Poster's Game at Yost a much better experience than it would have been otherwise. Loved some of their cheers and I hope Miami students bring a few of them back to the Goggin. It was also hilarious to hear them picking up some of ours!

And for those that think they were just excited to be at their first FF, I think that effect is typically negated when you're showing up to the game AFTER your team is knocked out. They were loud, they were fun, and they were doing everything they could to make it feel like we were at a college hockey game.

Thank you, RIT and I sincerely hope we see you in the NCAAs again in the near future!

Of the four teams (BC, WI, MU, and RIT) it was quite obvious which team had the best fan base, truly representing college hockey, as it is played every weekend, from October to now, and that was RIT!!

They have only been DI five years, come from a conference most of us think of as inferior, and have fewer sudents than many of the colleges represented in DI hockey.

The RIT students were great to witness: most were dressed in school colors, orange, almost always clean in terms of vulgarity, picked up on whatever was happening around them (most of the time not related to the game at hand), and they were very well organized.

Hope to see your team stay in contention, the cheers can be addictive!!

I think that every fan's section probably thought theirs was the best just because of how Ford Field was set up, you really couldn't hear any other fans...which I have to say kind of sucked.

The BC section did a couple of RIT chants because we could see you guys and could hear an RIT chant every once in a while but again, sadly we really couldn't make out what it was due to the distance and accoustics of how the rink was set up inside Ford Field. I really loved the fact that they (RIT) all came back dressed up in Orange for the championship game. Great energy. I do agree it was terribly tacky to do your own chant as BC had just won the whole thing and was celebrating--but I'm sure the kids were just so excited to be there and just didn't really know how to act. It's not like they have been there before so I didn't take any offense to it.

I'm sure the Wisky crowd, which was located to the left of the BC section would have been louder had the puck bounced their way a little more often, but it's tough getting into a game like that if you're a fan and things just aren't going your way.

As always, I had a blast meeting all of the fans from all of the different schools. Great times and I hope to go to another Frozen Four next year!

Haha, to be honest I didn't hear the RIT chants during the trophy presentation / after the win...so from my perspective I was absolutely drowned out by the BC crowd. I only heard about it afterward from others who were stationed at other points in the rink (which presumably were closer to the RIT section and further from the BC section) and read it on here.

It <i>is</i> tacky, there's really no way around that...but like I said before I think it was mainly just a bunch of kids enjoying something they had not been to before and making a little noise. If it was Miami or Wisky, I think people would be ****ed. I'm not, but I can't speak for others. Again, I don't think it takes a Master's degree from Miss Manners to know the right thing to do there, but as far as I'm concerned no harm no foul.

Seriously I think it was great for college hockey to get a fan base so energetic and thrilled to be a part of the frozen four this year. I hope we're both back next year!

i think there was an RIT chant in between the celebrations and the ceremonies, but it was brief and we called it off. i distinctly remember some of the "wiser" memebers if you will yelling to stop because it was BC's time in the spotlight. but yeah, on top of the previously mentioned eagles chants and calling the names of the players we did celebrate all of your goals, mixing up the RIT and Miami style goal celebrations. though to be fair we probably would have celebrated a Wisconsin goal if it happened too.

and yeah, while our crew seems to be getting some praise for our antics saturday night, it should be noted that at that point we were at about a third of our numbers compared to thursday night, as most students had returned in the school sponsored busses. we only had a smaller group in the rit area up and cheering while we had the whole section standing thursday night. so we were standing and rowdy and all that but not as loud as we were. i am assuming that if you were around for it thursday night you did not have much trouble hearing the RIT chant for the last minute of the game.

Another fan saying thanks to RIT's fans for the entire weekend.

The only time I heard Wisconsin's fans was at the beginning of the game. So when you are behind at home, you sit on your hands there, too???

And for those of you who think the RIT fans were tacky or lame or sad or whatever- I personally read that as jealous that YOU could not be just like them. Not worrying about what ANYONE thinks of you, and doing everything you can to get the other "fans" to be fanatic.

RIT's fans were awesome.

And I'm very, very thankful that the group of them showed up at Yost to hail each team with some fun insults. We all heard them, and loved it.

BTW, what started the Canadian national anthem? Couldn't figure that one out.

I'm still waiting for any Miami fan to explain to me why they cheer against their power play.

My dad tried pointing this out to a Miami fan when they were playing at Yost this year. Miami ended up taking a penalty, scored on the 4x4, and the Michigan player served the full 2 minutes. Don't tempt the hockey gods.

Yea I was the one her son was threatening. But he was a wigger kid that you could laugh off. And the fact was that she actually took a picture of us so she could sue RIT and we all waved and smiled for her was priceless.

My biggest pet peeve is when people go to sports, especially college sports, and want it to make it anything different than the insane atmosphere it is. Its what makes it IN MY OPINION the best set of sports to watch. I protest pro anything whenever possible
