Whoa whoa, lets not get ahead of ourselves here. You had a nice little run. Plenty of teams have had improbable, nice little runs in the tournament. Generally, we have to be reminded of them because those teams normally settle back to where they belong. Take it and enjoy it for what it was.
Funny little rant there GoUNH. The Whit can seat 6,501 for hockey, here are your attendance numbers for the HE quarterfinals vs. Vermont:
Friday - 3,712
Saturday - 4,067
Sunday - 2,531
With the series tied at 1 to 1, your attendance actually dropped off for the deciding game on a Sunday, how does that happen?
If you have read the UNH forums after the RIT - UNH game, they turned into a blame game for the poor attendance. All season long, the Whit was rocking but then when the play-offs come around, the fans seem tired of the game and stay away. Now, all you now read about is people wanting to get rid of Umile and blaming others for the lack of enthusiasm for the hockey program, wth?
For the last five years in D1 and Atlantic Hockey, RIT has been at the top of
standings. For the first two years, they weren't allowed to play in the post-season. In the two previous years, they were in the top two in AH but couldn't get past Air Force in the conference championship.
This year, they got over the hump and their fans showed up in force in Albany and in Detroit just like they have for their regular season games. The school provided only two buses to each game for the students, the rest had to make the trips on their own. I was amazed by the amount of RIT fans in Albany as compared to the UNH fans there on Saturday.
Drive time from RIT to Albany - 4 hours
Drive time from UNH to Albany - 3 hours
The great thing about RIT fans (students and non-students alike) is that they like the team and the school. 7,000 attended RIT vs Colgate at the BC arena in October during Brick City weekend.
The Tiger fans have supported their team in the past and will continue to do it in the future as I'm sure UNH fans will do.
Sure, the game against Wisconsin was not our 'finest hour' but that doesn't diminsh the support that RIT fans have for their team or the effort the tigers put in this year on the ice. I for one look forward to next year already.
And just so you know, I also support UNH and Maine during their season, especially when they play BU and BC.
There, I've had my say. Thanks to the Corner Crew and the fans who posted on UTube and in the forums, it's been good reading this year.
