RIT best represented college hockey at the Frozen Four

Re: RIT best represented college hockey at the Frozen Four

Still unsure of what I think of them. Good to see they stayed and what not but chanting RIT on Saturday was retarded. Watch the game and **** your school already lost. It wasn't about RIT on Saturday night. Hopefully teams like Denver and Cornell and Unh can take care of business next time. To be honest I didnt run into a dbag miami, wisconsin or RIT fan all week. Wisc fans were super nice.

Re: RIT best represented college hockey at the Frozen Four

Also, with BC being the furthest away and having the smallest enrollment, no surprise they had the least amount of fans.

37,000 + fans is great, but I'd still rather see it played in a traditional building.

Re: RIT best represented college hockey at the Frozen Four

The RIT Fans were a highlight of the weekend. They went and had a great time. If the other teams fans "were acting like they've been here before" then it's time for them to step aside.

Re: RIT best represented college hockey at the Frozen Four

Did RIT have the best fans, or did the BC, Wisconsin and Miami fans act as if they've been there before? Discuss.

BC/Wisconsin/Miami fans did not act like they had been at a college hockey game before.

Re: RIT best represented college hockey at the Frozen Four

I think there is something to be said for a program making it's first appearance vs. a BC who seems to be there every year. It's the novelty of it, new to the RIT people.

Why does "act like you've been there before" have to mean "look like you're not having fun"?

If you aren't going to enjoy going to an event like this, or look like you enjoy performing well or winning an event like this, you may as well just stay home and mow your grass.

RIT obviously had the best fans. They were having fun regardless if their team won or lose. Good for them to show up and have fun unlike the Wisky and Mami fans who became silent once their teams got blown out. RIT fans had clean cheers without vulgarities and kept it up the entire weekend. They drowned out the Bucky fans, who most likely had the vast majority of the fan base.

Re: RIT best represented college hockey at the Frozen Four

Wisconsin fans were busy imitating the bored and tired play of the team in front of them last night.

Hard to hold that against them.

Re: RIT best represented college hockey at the Frozen Four

Whoa whoa, lets not get ahead of ourselves here. You had a nice little run. Plenty of teams have had improbable, nice little runs in the tournament. Generally, we have to be reminded of them because those teams normally settle back to where they belong. Take it and enjoy it for what it was.

Did RIT have the best fans, or did the BC, Wisconsin and Miami fans act as if they've been there before? Discuss.

RIT will not fade into oblivion. Will they continue to make Frozen Four runs? Who knows. I would not be surprised if they make it to the tournament on a consistant basis - and if you aren't careful, will win games.

I agree with the sentiment about acting like they have been there before not really having any meaning. If that means sitting on your hands at a college hockey game I don't want any part of it. RIT's Corner Crew did what they normally do (perhaps that is there way of acting like they have been there before) - be loud and obnoxious during hockey games. :D And if you don't like it - I got TWOOOOO WOOOOOOORDS for you - YOU SUCK!

Re: RIT best represented college hockey at the Frozen Four

RIT fans will go back to not caring about the team when they fade back into oblivion, but it was great to see them enjoy being there. their presence definitely helped add some sound and energy to the building, but we can't start saying things about these "amazing fans" that aren't true.

This shows how much you don't know about RIT. Sure there were a bunch of people that jumped onto the bandwaggon, but those people weren't the ones at the game. There may have been some but the majority of the RIT fans in Detroit are regular fans. I don't think the average bandwaggon fan is going to wait overnight outside of our box office to get one of the 600 tickets the school got.

Re: RIT best represented college hockey at the Frozen Four

# 1: I'm not an RIT fan, my loyalty is to my team, which didn't make the regionals.

# 2: Cheers unrelated to the game, like when the North Dakota fan walked by (NO MORE MAS-COT. NO MORE MAS-COT). Or when the young beautiful Erin Nichole was doing a live interview during a commercial break (WHAT'S YOUR NUMBER? WHAT'S YOUR NUMBER?). When a few Wisconsin fans swore at them it was "WASH YOUR MOUTH OUT! WASH YOUR MOUTH OUT! Nothing to do with the game, but very funny.

hanasoni, I agree 100%!! The RIT fans were a riot!!! It was my first Frozen Four. I didn't like the venue at all, but the RIT fans made it fun! Those of you who have nothing good to say about them, shame on you!! And don't count the Tigers as a one-hit-wonder either. Wayne Wilson has done a tremendous job with this team. You WILL see them in the national tournament again, COUNT ON IT!!! I know I am very biased toward Wayne, as I have known him for a long time (from his days in Bowling Green), but he is a really great coach and more importantly a really great person!

Congrats RIT and fans on a great season! You represented your school, your league and college hockey in the best possible way....CLASSY!!!! I was proud to root for you!!!

Re: RIT best represented college hockey at the Frozen Four

Wisconsin fans = still the best fans in all of college hockey. I mean seriously, what other fans would make themselves look silly by wearing cheesey, fake mustaches just to support their team?

You mean besides UND fans two years ago? That must be where the Badgers got the idea, they stole it from UND when the Sioux won the Madison Regional in 2008.

Re: RIT best represented college hockey at the Frozen Four

I agree with SFO19. Furthermore, RIT fans were not nearly as numerous as you think. Almost all of them packed into one section, whereas the other fans were just spread out. Any school as close to the Frozen Four as RIT was and making its first bid, while the school gives out free bus rides and hotels should have that many fans at the games, if not more. I talked to my friends at RIT, and they said the team wasn't really that relevant until they started winning at the end of the year and made their run. I'm not calling the RIT fans bad fans, but let's review the situation objectively. I would argue that Wisconsin fans were better for being more numerous and for starting up some pretty loud chants on opposite sides of the arena. Also, I would argue BC fans were better fans since there were more BC fans there overall compared to RIT (not students), despite having by far the longest trip to detroit. 12-14 hour drive? that's dedication.

You have things partial correct. If you are going to review the situation objectively get your facts straight. Yes there were 2 buses. They left as soon as the RIT game was over. There were no free hotel rooms for students. Everyone that was at the Saturday game drove themselves.

The part you got right: It is true, the campus wasn't as bonkers about hockey before the regional. But the people that stayed for Saturday would be a decent representation of the fans that go to every game.

of course Wisco is going to be more numerous, they were actually in the game. but other than adding little splotches of red to the decor of the arena, what do you bring? from what I saw this weekend, it comes down to expectations of what fans are for.

Wisco/bc/miami (not as much but i may be a little biased, they were fun the cheer with) it seams that they are just there to add to the decoration of the rink, and speak when spoken to. aka cheer for goals, and when provoked. Whereas the RIT expectation is that we are the 6th man on the ice. yell, scream, hoot, holler, get in there head, let them know your always here, and kick your team in the butt if there getting a little sluggish. Never sit down, Never stop cheering. This is the corner crew way.

You're arguing that RIT fans made the trek because of hotel discounts and free bus rides? Whoa, that's low.

I talked to my friends at RIT, and they said the team wasn't really that relevant until they started winning at the end of the year and made their run.

It is fallacious to assume that because you happen to speak with a few of your RIT friends that they speak for all RIT hockey fans. Relevant to whom? As if relevance to ESPN and the big DI hockey "franchise" schools are the only things that are important? The team certainly wasn't relevant to the DI community when I attended RIT in 1999 but that doesn't mean the team wasn't relevant to the RIT or DIII communities. Most RIT students today weren't in the school during the DIII days so most wouldn't have enough information to make a comparison.

In my opinion, RIT has been relevant to Atlantic Hockey since they joined and are just starting to become relevant outside the conference.

I'm not calling the RIT fans bad fans, but let's review the situation objectively. I would argue that Wisconsin fans were better for being more numerous and for starting up some pretty loud chants on opposite sides of the arena.
Asserting subjectively that Wisconsin's greater number of fans and louder chants means their fans were better is a matter of opinion and not very objective at all.

Also, I would argue BC fans were better fans since there were more BC fans there overall compared to RIT (not students), despite having by far the longest trip to detroit. 12-14 hour drive? that's dedication.

This assumes non-student BC fans come from Boston and that Boston-based BC fans don't fly in significant percentages. BC alumni also come from all over the United States. Your claims are confounded by a lack of numbers and a lack of a clear point.

RIT fans will go back to not caring about the team when they fade back into oblivion, but it was great to see them enjoy being there. their presence definitely helped add some sound and energy to the building, but we can't start saying things about these "amazing fans" that aren't true.

RIT fans will go back to not caring about the team? Are you just making this up? The RIT fan base was strong and vibrant for many years before they entered DI. When I attended my first RIT game in 1999, I couldn't find a seat and had to stand. Throughout the years, I acquired a skill of neatly eating messy foods while standing. ;)

Re: RIT best represented college hockey at the Frozen Four

The majority of the BC fans were the families of the players on the team, who likely aren't going to heckle the other fans or players. The BC students were pretty loud considering there were only about 40 of us. Most BC hockey fans and alums are also from New England and the New York metro area, meaning it is a longer trip for BC fans.

Re: RIT best represented college hockey at the Frozen Four

This thread is dumb.

Just about everyone I met this weekend was cool. Wisco alums were great. of the few Wisco students there, some of them were kinda ******y. Other than that the camaraderie was great.

Funny little rant there GoUNH. The Whit can seat 6,501 for hockey, here are your attendance numbers for the HE quarterfinals vs. Vermont:
Friday - 3,712
Saturday - 4,067
Sunday - 2,531

With the series tied at 1 to 1, your attendance actually dropped off for the deciding game on a Sunday, how does that happen?

If you have read the UNH forums after the RIT - UNH game, they turned into a blame game for the poor attendance. All season long, the Whit was rocking but then when the play-offs come around, the fans seem tired of the game and stay away. Now, all you now read about is people wanting to get rid of Umile and blaming others for the lack of enthusiasm for the hockey program, wth?

For the last five years in D1 and Atlantic Hockey, RIT has been at the top of
standings. For the first two years, they weren't allowed to play in the post-season. In the two previous years, they were in the top two in AH but couldn't get past Air Force in the conference championship.

This year, they got over the hump and their fans showed up in force in Albany and in Detroit just like they have for their regular season games. The school provided only two buses to each game for the students, the rest had to make the trips on their own. I was amazed by the amount of RIT fans in Albany as compared to the UNH fans there on Saturday.

Drive time from RIT to Albany - 4 hours
Drive time from UNH to Albany - 3 hours

The great thing about RIT fans (students and non-students alike) is that they like the team and the school. 7,000 attended RIT vs Colgate at the BC arena in October during Brick City weekend.

The Tiger fans have supported their team in the past and will continue to do it in the future as I'm sure UNH fans will do.

Sure, the game against Wisconsin was not our 'finest hour' but that doesn't diminsh the support that RIT fans have for their team or the effort the tigers put in this year on the ice. I for one look forward to next year already.

And just so you know, I also support UNH and Maine during their season, especially when they play BU and BC.

There, I've had my say. Thanks to the Corner Crew and the fans who posted on UTube and in the forums, it's been good reading this year.

**** right. Its a **** Championship and not only should the team be having fun, so should you. They've busted their humps all their lives to get to this point, so the least you can do is just be a little more louder, a little more crazy, just so they have that little extra spring in their step, the bumps don't hurt as much, and they play like they're not down by two goals.

Why does "act like you've been there before" have to mean "look like you're not having fun"?

Boo-Hoo!!!! Its still only at 12 hour drive from Chestnut Hill to Ford Field, 13 and change if you don't go thru Canada according to Google Maps. Get some buddies together, load a car up or better yet, rent a passenger van and drive it. And pack everybody into a hotel room or two. Have people take turns driving and it will be one of your fondest memories you'll have of college.

Re: RIT best represented college hockey at the Frozen Four

There were a lot more BC fans there than you think. You know the old saying, "act like you have been there before"
4 out of 5 years will do that for you.
