RIT (aka Team Canada)

Re: RIT (aka Team Canada)

Just to be clear here ... we sing "Oh! Canada", just before "The Star Spangled Banner" at our home games too. And we have one of them there big ole red and white flags with a giant maple leaf in the middle hanging right up there in the Ritter. And most the fans ... they even know the words to both songs.:D

Used to be a day when they let us cross the border with no ID. Much harder to smuggle them over-aged Canadians back now.;)

Fun fact: We didn't always do this. We used to only sing O Canada when we played against a Canadian team. I recall a St. Lawrence fan asking why we didn't sing O Canada... which ought to give you an idea how recent this tradition is.

Even more fun fact: My wife (then girlfriend) and her friends on RIT's All Girls A Capella group started the tradition of singing O Canada. They were invited to sing the anthem at a few games and thought it was a nice way to honor our team, their players, and this history of the sport. It's stuck ever since.

Re: RIT (aka Team Canada)

Wow. Just... wow.

Not to bring the ECAC into this argument, but, take a look at their rosters at some point.

I didn't know that allowing foreign students to play sports in the United States was such a problem.

Re: RIT (aka Team Canada)

HokyDope strikes again. Of course, I cheer for USA at olympics, but I could care less who has how many Canadians or Americans or how old the players are when watching college hockey.

Good for you. Irishneednotapply speaks with forked tounge. Same as WJC etc, we want USA hockey kids and players to do well. You might not care, but some do. We want teams loaded with American born players to win. Not 22 and 23 year old Canadian freshmens. Just like you can 100% bet there would be zero Canadians rooting for a Quebec team with15+ 22 and 23 year old freshmen Americans on one of their Canadian University teams.

Go BC!

Do they know the words in French? ;)

HokyDope, RIT has one 23 year old freshman. Most teams only have 21 year old freshman. I love rooting for USA in olympics, world juniors, world baseball classic, etc. However, to root for a college team because they have more Americans is silly.

The only time I felt this way was Air Force last year in the Bridgeport Regional. Was cheering for them because it would have been great for the sport. BC winning isn't great for the sport.

I believe it's freshmen, not freshmens.

I see that you haven't gotten any smarter since December.

Do you cheer for an NHL team? How can you bring yourself to root for all of those foreigners?

Re: RIT (aka Team Canada)

I count 15 Canadians and 1 Fin on RIT's roster. The other Final Four teams are mostly Americans. Apparently the NCAA has no rule against stocking your team with Canucks?
That's kind of a shame, considering how far USA Hockey has come and that the Olympics show that our youth hockey development program is almost on par with Canada. But not if we give away our college roster spots to non-Americans.

Rochester is a shorter drive from Canada than it is from Connecticut or Massachusetts. Even so, the team has always had a strong Canadian representation even before their DI debut. Besides, why does it matter? College hockey isn't meant to be a showing of countries competing.

You are arguing that it is a shame that NCAA does not have a rule stocking your team with Canadians. You further explain that we won't be able to show our youth hockey development program is almost on par with the Canadians through our Olympic performance if we don't regulate the college hockey spots given to Canadians. Can you say non sequitur?

Us RIT fan's only care about our team winning. We could care less how many drafted players are on your team, where they were born, where they played junior, what conference they play in, how many hobey baker finalists are on the roster none of that matters. And I am pretty sure the players feel exactly the same way. We fully support our team. We're loud and we'll travel wherever the Tigers are playing. The campus and town has gone nuts for these guys. Keep drinking the haterade and we'll see you in Detroit

Re: RIT (aka Team Canada)

BTW: Jared DeMichiel happens to be from Connecticut. Something that always amused me during intros against UConn.;)

UConn, for some strange reason, does not recruit much in its home state.

Hell, there was a kid playing for AIC that came from the very town in which UConn is located (and who played high school hockey for the regional high school, in UConn's own arena).

Boy, Happy is going to be ticked off that you're marching all over his territory like this.

Re: RIT (aka Team Canada)

As a Maine alum, you didn't cheer for Kariya and Monty, or Larose And Kariya,

The hypocrite that I am I loved both... I bought his jersey from the championship game at a friends of Maine hockey event back in 95

Please stop taking our overage Candians, we can't seem to make it out of the first round recently.

Sincerely,
