Richter Award Discussion

I get all my stats from CHN. Lots of metrics out there on the site.

Excellent, thanks very much, greatly appreciated.
(Just a follow up for info only, the "close shots" that a goalie faces is, i believe, when the game is a close game (less than 2 goal lead/behind), rather than when the shots come from "in close", from the website).

Sean

Thanks Sean. Oddly, wonder why the individual goalie "saves" differ from these..I checked Perets for example and he shows 585 saves total. Wonder why we're off there.

did not see that, thanks for that detail. Means the close stuff is pretty irrelevant then, with the exception of showing shots during high stress moments perhaps.

I didn’t see that either. Makes perfect sense why Perets has seen the least then. I’m out of the bush now, Perets for Richter!!!

Anyone who wants to bet me a beer at the FF on getting the three finalists right :) ...here's my picks as of today.

Perets -I'd put Bischel here if ND sneaks into the playoffs, but as of today I don't think they'll hold on.
Levi
Pietila

Yaniv Perets
4/6 D’men gone from his record breaking season last year…..doing it all over again.

The only thing that hurts both Pietila & Perets IMO is they have both played a weak schedule. MTU is in a slightly deeper conference IMO than the ECAC this year, so I'd give Pietila an edge in SOS. The only team to play a weaker schedule than QU in the top 40 in the pairwise that is not also in the ECAC is RIT, according the the KRACH ratings.

Saw Levi last night put up 42 saves in shutout over offensively challenged UVM team. However many of those 42 were in his kitchen and tough scramble type plays. Also flashed the glove a few times as well. I'll admit I have not seen Pietila & Perets in live action. Levi currently #2 in save % in NCAA stats. Have to believe that winning last year's award has some carryover into this years voting. Good luck to all.

No one has ever won the Richter twice...I think they like it that way. I do have him in my top 3, but I won't be surprised if they give it to someone else simply because they don't have a habit of repeat winners. If I'm not mistaken no one has won the hobey twice either. I think that's by design.

Who else thought it was odd that (going from memory) something like 40 goalies were selected for the award. That's 2/3 of those starting for D1 programs. Maybe it could be a little more selective to begin with.

As much i wish Levi would win it again (NU fan), i don't think he really deserves it this year b/c of the team's very slow start, and his un-Levi-like Nov/Dec against some lesser opponents. Nov/Dec are just as much a part of the season as Feb, and i'm guessing Perets and Pietila didn't have that dip (without having seen them). That said, right now he is the best goalie in college hockey, stopping 155 of 161 over the last 4 games, against two top 10 teams on a big stage.

He’s the best goalie in the country and deserves it (QU fan) barring an absolute collapse in goaltending ability over the last few weeks
