I haven't been following your situation. Good luck.
I'm trying to get approval to work remote full time. So that I can move to Pittsburgh without having to find another job.

DC question for the locals on the niceness/safety of two locations:

My daughter's Girl Scout troop is going to DC this June. Their planning person has suggested two hotels, one at 650 Water Street SW, and one at 501 New York Ave NE. Now I haven't lived in DC since 1995 so things might have changed, but let's just say those addresses do not inspire confidence. Anybody have an eyewitness account that could help me out? Thanks very much!

Got a decent "burn" going already. Doesn't take long down here.

Edit: Need more rum. Now.

Since I live two or three blocks from the Channel Inn at 650 Water Street, SW, it is fine. (Of course, my presence might tell you otherwise. :D ) I would definitely recommend it over NY Ave NE. The only thing perhaps wrong about the Channel Inn is that it will eventually be turn town since the entire SW waterfront will be rebuilt, so it probably isn't the most modern. http://www.swdcwaterfront.com/ The Channel Inn, however, is not in the first phase, so I may not live that long. I wouldn't recommend going out alone at night for young girls, but that probably is the case anywhere in any large city. I have never been in the rooms in the Channel Inn but eat maybe once a month or two at their restaurant.

NY Ave NE sounds a little dicey... according to Google its near the train rails near Galludet new New York Ave/Noma stop. I know they're still building up the area but I'd consider the area to be very questionable at night.

Go to the Waterfront. Avoid the muggers and the Northeast Regional Acela train.

I have to stop tripping the on-off toggle switch on my computer surge protector with my foot every few weeks.

Why is it near your feet? You should probably rearrange your setup.

I have absolutely zero motivation and I need to be super productive today.

Thanks very much, fellas, that helps a lot. (Now that I did the Google Map thing I see where that SW hotel is. We used to buy crabs right down there. The map shows Pruitt's and Captain White's but I really have no idea who it was, we just went and bought bushels of blue crabs.)

I also think they should consider something "further out." I used to take the Metro in from Courthouse, and I think that'd be a fine location to stay: not so expensive, a little safer, and you get to ride the Metro! What's not to love!

Anyway, we'll see what they decide on. I know they really like the "you can walk to The Mall from our hotel!" angle. (Wait till they find out The Mall is 2 miles long! :D)

If I unplugged everything so that I could move it (if it is even possible), I would never get everything connected again. :)

And it will most likely be very hot in June. On the other hand, the added cost of Metro can add up depending upon what time ofay they travel and how many days they are in DC.

As to crabs on the Waterfront, there are several places that sell them.
