The Rube

Retired Due To User Interface
Not even going to put an effort into it. Why? Well, isn't that the point of retirement? ;)

Evening, Lodge. Despite a wonderful weekend/etc, got some bad news over the last few days. Buddy is getting divorced after about 20 some years, and a best friend's BIL died from cancer last night. IIRC he was 50ish. Ugh.

Morning Lodge. Work is crazy. Boss has been on business trips most of the month, which leaves me covering a bunch of her meetings. Today's meeting schedule: 7:30 stand up meeting production, lead 8 am stand up meeting department, present at 9 am stand up ops meeting, present at 10:30, 12:30 and 2:30 monthly communications meeting, 10:30 stand up returned goods meeting, 11:30 new product meeting, 2 project meeting.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge: Choose A Number

Just had a day and half long department offsite 2020 kickoff meeting a block away from the office at a hotel. It was not bad. I never like those but this one went well. You leave there feeling invigorated and then you come back to the office to find - eh, it's too complicated to articulate here. Let's just say I'm struggling with how to present my role on this team as one of value. The latest incident may not be as bad as I'm making it out to be, but I feel like the area of which I'm the subject matter expert has been circumvented and those involved are not understanding why it's an issue. I have my review with my boss next week and I need to collect my thoughts and present to her what I'm struggling with.

I think we are all too judgmental of ourselves. I think (and hope) you will be fine. You're still there for a reason. :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge: Choose A Number

Good morning Lodge. Was at the dealership at 7:30am to drop my car off. Asked for their shuttle to take me to the commuter rail station to take the train into Boston. "We could never keep a driver on staff so we stopped the shuttle and now call Ubers." OK fine. They call an Uber. They tell me to wait at the main entrance. I take my phone out, turn the ringer on, hold in my left hand. In my right hand, I look at my work phone. After 10 minutes, I look at my phone, there is a text saying the ride was cancelled along with a voicemail. It never rang or buzzed while in my hand.

So, I go back into the service area to tell them to get me an Uber again. They do. This time I stand outside in the cold. Uber driver calls, says "I'm here." I said "No, you're not. I'm standing outside the main entrance." Turns out the idiot can't read signs on how to get to where I am, was in the back of the building. He finally gets there. Goes out a one way the wrong way. Takes me to the train station, totally isn't paying attention to where I need to be dropped off, apparently can't see the large terminal building, drives in a "buses only or pay a $500 fine" lane to drop me off.

Because of all this, I miss the one train I wanted to be on, had to wait for the 8:36am one. Got me to North Station a little after 9:00. Then had to take the T to the office. But first I needed coffee and breakfast because now it's 9:30 and, well, I'm STARVING. Now I'm waiting for the call to tell me what they found or didn't find, how much it's going to cost me and then do the same trip, just backwards. I may forego having them call me an Uber and just get my own Lyft.
