Who wants to go to Mardi Gras? Because I sure as hell want to go back to that magical place known as Bourbon St.

I would love to go, but I'm afraid I'm stuck in class that day. and somehow, even as used as we are now are with taking our shirts off around each other, I'm pretty sure bringing beads into class would be frowned upon.

I can see how it would be the best party ever. I'm thinking next year, I can't afford going there again this year.

Yeah, would be nice to have money to go there.

With regards to Mardi Gras, I was told by a guy who lived down there that you should go to New Orleans the week before Mardi Gras instead. The parties are supposedly just as good, but you can still move around the city. During the week of Mardi Gras, it's supposed to be one giant cluster* and you can't move anywhere. But it's got to be the funnest cluster* I've ever heard of.

With regards to Mardi Gras, I was told by a guy who lived down there that you should go to New Orleans the week before Mardi Gras instead. The parties are supposedly just as good, but you can still move around the city. During the week of Mardi Gras, it's supposed to be one giant cluster* and you can't move anywhere. But it's got to be the funnest cluster* I've ever heard of.

I've also heard that if you're a cracka, you would be best advised to stay on the main drag, and stay off the unbeaten path. Lots of shady stuff down there.

Do not stray off Bourbon Street regardless of who you are. Some sections of the city the locals will tell you you're in deep trouble if you end up there and it was nice knowing you.

Yup - the best friend went down there with her husband last summer and the hotel concierge would not give them directions to one of the cemeteries that they wanted to visit because he didn't even feel safe telling them where that section of town was. He essentially said they would almost definitely be mugged and put in serious danger. (This deterred them from trying to find it on their own.)
