Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 95: A USCHO Retrospective

Oh, one more thing. I'm going to hockeytown to sing the state of hockey song.

...we will fight to the end, we will stand and defend our flag flying high and free...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 95: A USCHO Retrospective

ok, here comes a few tests:

- describe the left wing lock NOT using Wiki as a reference and tell me why it destroys hockey
- walk me through a good breakout
- explain in your own words the most important fundamental of hockey

you pass these three tests and I'll say you know hockey. :p

In reality, I could do that, but I don't want to.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 95: A USCHO Retrospective

I've been watching college level hockey for 9 years and I couldn't do that. :p

unlike most homos that call themselves hockey fans because they know a lot of random names from the 1940's, I say you're not a hockey fan unless you know the intricacies of the game. :D

That part is great. I love the video clip they show and when the kid skates out and plants the stick/flag at center ice. The song/scene gives me goose bumps. I really need to get to a Wild game. I haven't been to a game yet this season.

I also like the following parts of the song.

On the ice we cut our teeth
We took our knocks
In the penalty box
Our mother was the referee

The game’s in our blood
And our blood’s in the game

The day they try to take this game
Is the day the gloves come off

I'm sure CTF knows a lot about five holes. Doesn't that count? :D

Here's a shot:

- describe the left wing lock NOT using Wiki as a reference and tell me why it destroys hockey - Watch the BADgers :)
- walk me through a good breakout - First Andy Dufresne discovers the prison walls are beginning to rot..... :D
- explain in your own words the most important fundamental of hockey - Don't cheer for North Dakota. :D

you pass these three tests and I'll say you know hockey. :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 95: A USCHO Retrospective

Here's a shot:- the left wing lock

Explain the left wing lock? Piece o'cake.

Okay, so the first day of practice coach lines up all the left-handed shots and puts 'em against the boards. He tells the first guy in line, "Hey ya hoser, here's a fiver. Ya got ten minutes to get yer a/s/s over and back to Ace Hardware and a buy a combination lock. If yer not back by then I'm puttin' ya on a bus back to Saskatoon."

What do I win?

Okay, here's a timely topical question submitted for your perusal and commentary by way of a mister Robert Burns.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?

Please discuss. ;)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 95: A USCHO Retrospective

I just got back from the hospital after picking up the CD with my MRI test to take to Dr. Barker. I also got a printout of the last two radiology reports. There are a lot of big words but the bottom line: The tumor hasn't remained the same size.

It's actually shrinking. :)

In my first MRI last February it was still 2.1x2.1x2.2cm (9.7 cubic centimeters). By June it had shrunk to 2.2x2.2x1.4cm and now is down to 2.2x1.9x1.2cm (5.02 cubic cm). This is better news than I had dared hope. If it continues to shrink I'm wondering if it might be possible to just nuke it and avoid a second surgery. That's beyond my wildest dreams, and I think given its location surgery may still be needed...but maybe. I am reminded of Gene Hackman in Hoosiers when he tells the team, "That's beyond your imaginations...let's just keep it there."

It's been a long time since I've had really good news. I've been unsuccessfully holding back tears of joy since I read this report.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 95: A USCHO Retrospective

You know, sometimes I wish I actually didn't know anything about hockey so I could just be like JSR and know nothing about hockey but pretend I do, and blame it all on one person. :(

Priceless, that's aweeeesome!! :)
