Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 87: As All Hallow's Eve Approches.....
if we're tired, we can catch 10-15 minute snoozes at a time. One person stays awake and the other sleeps. Normally, what I will do if the other person wants to sleep is I let them sleep. I very rarely need to sleep up there, so I can stay awake. I'm guessing they were out cold. I mean, whammo!
sure, the flight deck is pressurized to 8,000 feet just like the cabin. Pilots that are based around sea level (think Minneapolis, which is 844 feet ASL) might be more prone to being affected by that. And if it's the tail end of a 4 day trip, in which the pilots didn't get a lot of sleep the nights of the trip...you got a recipe for disaster.
If you're bothered by this, write your congressmen and tell them you want pilots to be treated better and paid better. Please?
I am sure it does. Is it common for all pilots in the cockpit to catch some z's at the same time? What strikes me as odd regarding this situation is that the pilots failed to respond to repeated requests via communication from MPLS, Denver and NWA for 75 minutes?

I can't speak for how it is in the cockpit, but I know that EVERY time I'm on a flight, I fall asleep within a half hour, max. That white noise is like a valium and a bunch of bong hits rolled into one. My daughter sat beside me on a flight to London a few years ago, and she was in awe of how fast I fell asleep. I was out for about five hours on that flight.
