Congrats Scarlet and other (les?) BoSox fans.
It's amazing how the Red Sox own the first two decades of a century. :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 198 - A New Season Begins...

Morning, Lodge. Got an email from church last night, a credit that is either $5, $15, $50, or $500. I have to log it in today only. If it's the $500, I have until the end of the year to use all the monies, otherwise I have to use it up today. Won't find out until they enter the code into the system, but hey, free food. :)

While I was at the Mall, they have a Currency Exchange place. I was looking to get some Euros and Pounds to take with me and then use my credit card. They have this MasterCard Travelex Money Card. It works like a debit card. I can load pounds and euros on it. There’s no fee like there would be if I just use my credit card. Still not sure if I should get that. Going to ask a few people at work. Have any of you heard of that card? This is it: https://www.travelex.com/travel-money-card

It's been my experience that on the only couple times I've been out of the country, by credit cards have had much more favorable currency exchange rates than those exchange shops you find at malls, airports, train stations, visitor centers, and such. You can usually get the rate spread from your card's site.

But there's a 3% fee to use my credit card. This is a MasterCard. It's $9.95 to use it. No fees if I use it as a debit card or withdraw money from an ATM.

If you're going to spend over $330, then the pre-paid card is a good deal.

People still have credit cards with foreign transaction fees? My AMEX and my Visa are both no foreign transaction fees.

Yes. People also have cards with annual fees. ::shakes head:: When we were searching around for a Visa you can't believe how many of the more popular, advertised ones have fees. Some are tricky- free first yr, etc.

My Amex has an annual, but that makes logical sense. I pay $180 annually, I get free checked bags, and a free companion voucher. I come out ahead on my $180.

I have a Discover. Pay it off every month. I get gift cards that add another 5$ or 10$ to the amount. We've made about 2000$ this yr, free and clear.

Same card same reasons and I like it "forces" us to go somewhere. :)
It did have foreign transaction fees about 5-6 years ago. Our other card is a Target MC which is nice simply because we get 5% off every target purchase with no fees and it's chip & pin so it works well internationally.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 198 - A New Season Begins...

Annual fees are OK, as long as you aren't paying foreign transaction fees, and aren't eating into your reward miles/points with interest. It's a bonus if you fly enough to hold a seriously premium card, and get/use lounge access as a benefit, where you can really make up for a big annual fee, such as with the infamous Amex Platinum card.

Day 1 ended with a migraine. Day 2 starts with a mild headache and some queasiness. Let’s see where we go from here.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 198 - A New Season Begins...

I'm currently looking for a new secondary card (Visa), since Amex isn't accepted everywhere, I always like to have an spare Visa, just in case. My current Visa is from Cabelas, and I get points back to buy stuff at Cabelas, which as worked out well. I've been saving points for a new slug gun for deer hunting, and I'm pretty much there. My current deer gun went out of production the year after I bought it, and ended up only made for 2 years, so its value has skyrocketed. I don't want to keep using it and potentially damage it. But, since Cabelas was bought out by Bass Pro Shops, they're changing the credit cards, and it won't be a Visa anymore. So, I want to find a new, no-annual fee, secondary Visa card with decent benefits (not airfare benefits, since my Amex is for airfare).
