Good morning Lodge. Home from vacation. Back at work but offsite visiting a vendor today. Was able to sleep in a bit.

Trip home was fine. Interesting to note-went through US Customs while still in Aruba, at the airport there. I’m not sure how that is able to happen. Is it because so many visitors are from the US?

It's called being pre-cleared. Depends on whether or not there are US Customs at the airport. We have 5 pages in our manuals about who pre-clears and who doesn't.

Evening, Lodge. This week continues to suck, minus one bright spot. Work didn't slow down, another 9+ hour day. But, finalized one last detail on my Houghton trip, so should be really fun. Pretty much exactly 2 months away.

Mornin’ y’all.

It’s awesome having customs at the international airport you leave from.

To ease lines at customs at domestic airports?

But why just the US? People travel internationally all over the world. Don't get me wrong - I like that US Customs has these agreements in place. I just find it interesting that all these countries allowed US Customs to do that. Why would these countries care about lines at customs in the US?

Any. Way. Back at work today. I need another vacation. :p

We (the US) are Canada's largest customer. We are also not part of the EU, and there is free travel between nations within the EU. Effectively, the EU is the USA in Europe, where you would use the terms nations and states interchangeably. Therefore we are likely the largest group of visitors to may of the EU's nations, and some airports have seen fit to expedite that process. Like dx said, it's the money.

Would you be more likely, or less likely to go back to Aruba, with the knowledge that when you travel there, you don't have to stand in long customs lines when you go home? That is why Aruba is OK with it. It makes them a more desirable destination for little or no effort on their part.

I was expecting to stand in line at my home airport because I flew internationally and, well, that's what you deal with when you fly internationally. I'm OK with that. That had no bearing on my decision on whether to go or whether I will go in the future. I still had to stand in lines. I just did it in a smaller airport.
