Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #192: What DO you do, with a BA in English?

My friend in St Croix is in trouble. Generator failed. They are on the last of their food, no water because they need electricity to pump out of cistern, no way to communicate except if they drive to get cell service but gas is hard to come by. Grocery lines are hours long and food is scare there too. ONly allowed 2 bags of ice/family- not enough in the heat to hold any food they get from spoiling. Airport is closed, no way to get off island. Nothing on the news about this at all :(

Terrifying. We are a wealthy country with resources, why isn't help getting there? Are the ports closed too? We can't find a way to get supplies there or get people off the island? Is there too much threat of other storms to send shipping vessels or an air craft carrier with helicopters or anything?

Airports are closed except for Military on St T. From what I hear they aren't that far on St Croix. Some shipping getting thru but no US Postal service. Difficult to coordinate because there is no clear line of communication and government buildings are destroyed. Roads are blocked, washed out, destroyed. FEMA is using FB/Twitter for info because there is no other central way to gather info. Limited Cell phone service, other phone lines down. The only way info is getting out is FB and social media which few people can access. They have white boards for people to mark themselves safe. The Gubmint is understaffed and overwhelmed. Texting with my friend today was heartbreaking. The news is all about knees and flags and nothing about this. I am ready to have apoplexy. Her company is looking to charter to get them out but right now there is no way to get them off island. There are 6 people, 6 dogs, no water, no power, no fresh food, no way to get meds for medical conditions they have, blasting heat and high humidity. The bugs when I was there were brutal. I can't imagine what they are now. Risk for mosquito illness is high. I could go on forever. So scared for her. Soooooo frustrated there is no coverage and no focus on the need.

Good Evening Lodge!

Oddly enough, I've had a busy social life. I'm as surprised as anyone.

Afternoon y'all.

Had our fantasy college hockey draft last night.. I've got some guys on most of your teams; even the rodents. A sad, sad day.

Looking forward to the season getting underway this weekend.

Hope all is well with everyone!

Also, Scarlet.. I cannot make it out to see you and Agganis in a couple of weeks.. my college roommate is getting married that Friday.

People just don't understand you don't schedule weddings in the fall!!! Between college football and college hockey, there's never a good time for them. :)

Hope you can make the return trip next year or the year after; have heard it may be 2019-2020 as MSU has something in the works with an NCHC school..

Before I scrolled down to see this, I saw your previous post and was just about to ask you if you were coming this way. Bummer you can't make it! One of my co-workers is getting married on that Saturday. I didn't know if I was going to get invited and we were trying to schedule our annual Player Families dinner. We decided to do it Friday night instead of Saturday night because of the and as it turns out, I didn't get invited. I would love to head out there for a game. Any opportunity to add a new rink to my list is welcome. We'll see what happens.

Excited that there are games this weekend!!

won't go to game 1, but....

Will you be able to access the free feed of home games? It won't be the same without you texting me during games at Agganis.
