Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

Seems unlikely. I don't think it would hold the whole class, judging strictly based on the outside appearance of the building. You may have a better idea of that than I though.
:p

I'll admit to having been there, but not past the shop on first floor. I was with a group who wanted to go. I believe that was the same night I made my only visit to the 90's.

Our all night party was at Grand Slam. It was alright...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

My niece graduates tonight and then she has her all night grad thing. Ceremony is supposed to be outside so we can all come. It's why I took the red eye home (we just landed). Now I hear it may rain. If so, they have the ceremony in the gym and each student only gets three tickets. Boo. Probably won't see her till Sunday.
Lil ushered one yr when it rained. Go, tell a sob story about flying across the country. They will let you in.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

Good Morning Lodge!

where's ewe?

I'm here. Have had about 10 days of challenging patients and am guarding my time off for recovery from work, so haven't had time to check in much. Spoke with one of the nurses whom I respect much about my reservations about working in the Unit, he provided some positive feedback, which always feels good. Have also been spending my few minutes of down time at work reading textbooks on Critical Care.

Worked Wednesday night - Thursday morning, had lunch with the MIL at her "request" with some ladies from the ER where I used to work, then attended our Night Shift Council meeting. Passed out during Jeopardy at 2130 last night. Today, up at 6:10am. Enjoyed breakfast and trashy tv, waiting for lunch with a friend from work, and a quiet afternoon. Have the weekend off (ended up with every weekend in June off thanks to schedule modifications - some mine, some as favors to co-workers) with no plans, which is unbelievably exciting. Thinking I might set up our herb garden that I didn't get to do last weekend, read, snuggle with my husband, and do some cooking.

I have Lemon Thyme, Thyme, Oregano, Marjoram, chives, all need to be split..... Want some?

Glad to know you are OK. I think it takes at last 5 yrs to feel sort of comfortable doing what ever nursing you are doing that is challenging.

Let me touch base with the executive chef of the house, but we will probably take you up on that. We had lemon thyme last year (never had it before) -- it was amazing and we were planning on planting again this year. We did cilantro and basil as well, which we'll do again, but everything on that list looks good (we don't use a ton of chives, but we might if we had them fresh...).

I felt like hot ***** at the ER just before I left. Aside from the infant code, I stopped feeling out of control or nervous -- which is one of the reasons I left. There is so much to learn in this new environment so it has rocked my confidence a bit. I figure I'll likely stay for about 10 years -- the pay is good, the unit is well run, the hospital is stable. By then, I'll have paid my loans and have had time to build some savings. Then I foresee myself headed in one of two directions -- MedFlight (need to be smaller, no fat nurses in the helicopter) or Boston Children's NICU or CVOR PACU/PICU.

My graduation was on the FB field. It was so long ago (last century!) that I don't recall what the back-up plan was. Our class was somewhere around 700+ and it would have been hard to put us all on the gym floor.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

I never heard of these overnight parties. My graduation was in our local gym -- there was no outdoor space. It was hot as hell and miserable. The guys were in tuxes and we girls all had to wear the same dress (which is super flattering  )

Just got the call that the ceremony is on! Going to go take a nap since I didn't get much sleep on the plane and then head up there later this afternoon.

ETA - just saw your other post les! Thanks for the update!

We had 525 on the gym floor for my graduation way back in '95 and maybe could've squeezed in up to 600 students total. The default option is always out on the FB field, but it had to be moved to the main gym each and every year I was in high school. And now that I'm looking at that 95 date, kids born around my graduation date can legally drink now. I'm getting old.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

My high school graduating class was ~650, largest in school history up to that point. They always rented the b-ball/concert facility at the local college. I think most of the high schools in the county did this, even some of the smaller ones.

I went to 5 of Westminster High School's graduations in a row. My brother graduated in '96, then I played in the high school band for 3 years, then I graduated in 2000. Haven't been to a high school graduation since.

I have a friend at CHildrens who works in an ICU/transplant unit or something to that effect. She is going back for her NP right now (nuts!). Let me know if you need a contact~ my contacts seem to work for you :p

We 700+ in HS. I have no idea what would have happened if it rained. College it was outside, a monsoon, and after that they never did it the same way again. One of the professors wore snorkel gear including flippers.

Around here the overnight thing is very big. lil's HS is probably the strictest that I know about. After the ceremony they have a brief time to see family then all go into the building. After they enter there is no leaving, no matter what. They change, leave all their stuff in a garment bag and get bused out to a recreation club. They get frisked and scanned before they leave, can't use the bathroom after that, until they arrive. Parents patrol the bathrooms, everywhere they are in the club. If they can get contraband in I am amazed.

Prom has something similar.

The HS I went to was on the news for having 30 kids with alcohol at the prom. Police were called. Place was >1 hr away and the parents needed to go get them. OOPs! They also are way more lax after graduation.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

Good morning Lodge.

Went to NPR blues and bbq thing last night for donors. NaSK and I were 2 of the 5 people under the age of 50. The band was ok, the food was ok, and the weather was gorgeous. A nice night for hanging out outside.

That sounds like pure torture. Not only old people, but old people that like something as ****ty as NPR? Yuck.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

The kids at Jr's school are required to continue to comply with school dress code, and upped a little from there for under the gowns. They are to change into casual clothes and can bring virtually nothing with them, including no phones or Apple watches. All their nicer clothes get locked into the changing room. Mrs and I, along with 2 other parents will check them in to their busses and they will be bussed to the undisclosed location where they will be locked in until they leave at 3:30 or 4 AM when they will be bussed back to the school for parents to pick them up.

We got locked into the high school for the night, then got bussed to a local dinner-theater for breakfast. A couple kids were pretty clearly drunk, but I never found out how they got the booze - likely hid it in the school building somewhere in advance.

We had ours at the local YMCA. It wasn't terrible, and it wasn't really that exciting. We all skipped out ASAP and went to the casino, pretty sure a whole group of us left earlier than we were supposed to, but what were they going to do? We had graduated, walked, and were 18 years old. They couldn't stop us. The unofficial class party was much more fun, both of them, even though I didn't drink at that point. :p

I'll keep it in mind. I have a lot to learn at my place and I'm excited about it. I figure Children's is probably the pinnacle for me as far as prestige. The place I work now is no joke, but there is an appreciable difference. (Plus no L&D or peds at my hospital now). I used to knock on the idea of networking as preposterous and leading to inequality, but I have to say that the interviews I got and jobs I got since nursing school have been because I've either known people personally or had a in through a friend. :o

We had ~150 in high school, but the gym was packed (each kid got 10 tickets -- it was a Catholic school in a predominantly Irish neighborhood). It was miserable. BU's graduation is always (I think) at Nickerson Field (outside) with the individual school graduations (where you actually get your diploma) in various buildings throughout the campus. It poured (2inches during the ceremony) in 2006 when I graduated. A lot of people didn't go. I got my diploma in a tiny building on the other end of campus later in the day -- there were only 15 people in the religious studies department :o I had to pick which of the 2 departments I wanted to get my degree from as the ceremonies were at the same time. I picked the shorter ceremony.

Our prom was on Thursday, Friday was an off day, Saturday was baccalaureate Mass and Sunday was the actual graduation. Guys rented the tuxes for prom from the same store (they had a deal with the school) and then were required to wear them for baccalaureate mass and again for graduation. Girls wore the white dresses for baccalaureate mass and for graduation. My sister's class dress was pretty, but ours were hideous.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

My graduation had about 100 people. We smuggled in radios to listen to the Wings in the playoffs (this was 2002, the year Ken Holland went totally off the deep end and decided to sign every Hall of Famer in the league over the age of 35, won the President's Cup by a couple light years, and then surgically castrated Dan Cloutier and Patrick Roy in front of a live studio audience.)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

My HS graduation was in a movie theater. This was in the days before multiplexes and large movie theaters could hold a couple of thousand people. (My class was probably about 800.)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

My HS graduation got rained out and we had to do it at the civic center where the local D3 school played hockey.
