Good Morning, Lodge!

Should be an interesting day at the work. If you have not read the Thoughts and Prayers thread, the CEO called me yesterday. I plan on being back home by 10am.

Yikes LWB, hang in there!

Happy Monday Lodge. Freezing here today, getting ready for a Nor'easter tomorrow which will thankfully be rain. At least that's what they're saying.

#OppositeGirl powers in effect last night, Pats win. Yay.

Thank you all!

Survived the morning in the office. I am going back after hours on Wednesday to sit down with the President and get some clarification on how to manage the other location. Now for the fun part of paperwork!

Good to hear that.

I'm back, and ****, it took a long time to read through 2 weeks of post. In hindsight, I should have just forgotten that those 2 weeks of posts existed.

What a great 2 weeks of relaxation.

Started off with some deer hunting, got a doe before I stepped in the woods on Saturday morning. I didn't hunt early morning because I needed to quick check if I was sighted in before going out, and didn't have a chance before opening morning. Was walking up to the woods, saw 3 deer run in the other side of the woods, walked over the hill to see if they would run right through, and sure enough, a doe come running out, and I took her down running across a bean field, at about 70 yards. Hunted with the guys until Wednesday, and had a great time.

Thanksgiving was fun, the food was excellent!

Weren't you just in St. Kitts?

And you're posting about mundane Minnesota stuff?

Flew to Atlanta the morning after Thanksgiving. We rented a Mercedes C-Class Convertible, and drove around the surrounding area checking out local brewpubs. Had dinner at Legal Sea Food in Atlanta. It was a good day.

Saturday morning we took off for St. Kitts. St. Kitts was incredible. 82-90 degrees every day. We spent our first day (afternoon) on the beach right in front of our resort, which was probably the nicest beach we saw, but it was on the Atlantic side of the island so the water was rough, and colder. We didn't go in the water, but we did hit up the huge arse pool, and the swim-up bar later on. Which was pretty great. Went out for a nice steak dinner at the resort, which was also excellent.

Sunday morning we had breakfast at the resort, and after seeing that bill, and the bill from the night before, we decided that we needed to leave the resort, or we'd go broke. We ended up walking a mile or so across the island to a beach bar, called the Shiggidy Shack, on the Caribbean side, for lunch. The food was incredible, as was the rum punch. For dinner we checked out a local Indian restaurant that was equally tasty. We ended up spending big chunks of the day relaxing at the pool too, since we really just wanted to do nothing.

Monday we caught a taxi to go to a beach bar a little further away, on the Caribbean, called Ship Wrecked. Awesome black sand beach at this place, went swimming and drank a whole bunch more rum punch, and plenty of Carib. Met a group of 3 couples from the New Jersey-Philly-Delaware area, and hung out with them. They were a fun group, and we found out that they had also signed up for the same catamaran cruise we did for the next day.

The catamaran was incredibly awesome. It cost us $110 per person, lasted 9 hours, included lunch, all-you-can-drink drinks, snorkeling, and a trip to Nevis. We had a great group on the boat, about 20 of us total, and everyone had a great time. We hung out with the group from the day before, and an older couple from Connecticut that was really fun. Also met a group of 3 older couples from Boston, by the end of the trip the one lady was trying to convince us to stay at her place for the Frozen 4. :p Just really good people. The food on the boat was amazing, I don't know how they had food that good on a boat with no kitchen. Everyone was so drunk by the time we were on our way back that there were people dancing on the deck in the front of the boat, and the women from Boston were dancing with the crew in the back. Imagine 60-something women from Boston, grinding on a bunch of island guys in dreadlocks, to reggae music. Yeah, it was hilarious. Don't Stop Believing came on the playlist, and you can imagine what happened....everybody was singing, loudly. :p Needless to say, we laid low that night, we were quite drunk and in no condition to leave the hotel room. We found out later that the rum punch they served on the boat was about 60% Bacardi 151...

We met up with another couple that we met on Wednesday and did a taxi tour of the island. 80 bucks total, for 4 of us, for a 4 hour tour. Got to see the old British fortress, some old plantations, and really, the whole island. Lots of picture opportunities.

The Shiggidy Shack has a weekly beach bonfire and live music night on Thursdays, we we met up with the group of other couples our age at that. Had dinner, which was somehow even better than the lunch was there earlier in the week. Conch chowder, grilled fresh grouper with a sugarcane pineapple sauce....so good. The music was actually really good, and they were shooting a St. Kitts tourism video that night, so there were cameras all over, and they had a fire dancer, and showgirls and all kinds of other stuff.

It rained on Friday, but our group of 8 (we'd become one group by this point) went to the last place on our list to check out, Cockleshell Beach and the Reggae Bar. We just hung out all afternoon, drinking Caribs, switching over to rum eventually. Reggae Bar has a Friday night all-you-can-eat lobster dinner, we stayed for that, and everyone was very happy with the food, as we were everywhere. I was running out of clean clothes, so I ended up wearing a ratty old Gophers shirt. Well, the tradition at the Reggae Bar is to sign the shirt/flag/banner hanging from the rafters of where you're from or your alma-mater. There was no Minnesota shirt or flag, so they convinced me to hang my shirt from the rafters. I figured it was ok, since I live in MN, and my wife is an Alum, though, I wish I had a Tech shirt on that day. We signed our names, wrote "honeymoon!" and the date. Then all of the other people we had befriended signed it to, even though they were from out east. Then we hung the shirt up for anyone else from MN to sign. Ended the night at the casino with the whole group. We ended up even +/- $20 by the end of the trip, which I'll count as a victory.

Got a little more time in at the pool Saturday morning before heading home. Customs in Atlanta was horrendous (as expected). We talked with our new group of friends in Atlanta (they were on the same flight), and we decided that we should try to align our vacations next year again, and meet up. So now we have to pick an island.

Overall, just an excellent honeymoon. We had an incredibly fun time, and met so many great people, some of which we may end up vacationing with again. For anyone interested in St. Kitts, we loved it. But I am guessing it is not for everyone. It is not the island with perfect blue waters, and white sand beaches, but that wasn't as high of a priority for us. We wanted an island that was safe to leave the resort, with good food, decent beaches. And this place delivered. We could go anywhere at night, walked around outside the resort, never felt unsafe. After the first couple days, we didn't spend much time at all at the resort. Not doing all-inclusive turned out to be a great choice for us.

Now, back to work. Ugh. At least I have a killer tan though.

Oh, also, one of the guys from the group that we hung out with quite a bit was a Ferris alum. So we talked hockey some. Who knows, maybe he's a poster.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

Happy Monday y'all. Four exams this week, three tomorrow, and hockey games Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday...buckling up for the rest of today and tomorrow.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

A while ago I lived on Virgin Gorda for 6 months. slept on a boat in the yard (probably slept in a "bed" a handful of times max. Rest was in a bunk or on deck under a roll mattress)

Not bad living I tell Ya.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

Sounds downright awesome.

That is a pretty good description. :-)

If anyone wants to arrange an USCHO Poster trip to the Caribbean, put me down for 2 spots right now. :p

Also, I am pretty dang lucky here at work. I have an excellent supervisor. He called me first thing this morning, asked me how the trip was, and discussed some year-end performance review stuff. He is very transparent with what he expects with me (and his other reports), tells us exactly what he expects, and how he will rate us, and then tells us what we need to do to get rated highly and advance. It isn't some cloudy mystery anymore, I know what I need to do, so I can make sure I perform up to expectations. I was doing that previously, but now I feel much more comfortable knowing for sure how I am doing.
