Question for the Boston people. What can you tell me about the Big Dig? I ask because Seattle is currently throwing huge amounts of money into a hole that in theory is supposed to eventually be a tunnel to carry car traffic. They have dug all of about 1,000 feet and the machine is broken - 50 feet underground. I'm curious how much money this fiasco is going to cost.

Don't you guys have a giant fault line running near the city, making the city prone to earthquake damage? If so, is a giant tunnel really the smartest thing to build in the first place?

Here's a wiki link for the Big Dig. Original estimate of $2.8 billion, final cost of $14.6 billion. There were off by a buck or two.

Did I read that this storm is named after someone here?!?!? :D

Is there someone here named Arthur???

The Big Dig was 10+ years of traffic craziness. While it didn't alleviate any traffic, I love how it opened up downtown.

So for the genealogists out there. Is there a way to search ellisisland.org by year only? I know the year I want but the name may of changed. So a forced name field is making it difficult.

Or is there a ship list by year somewhere?
On Ancestry.com they have emigration/immigration that goes by name, ship, time frame, etc. I can access if you want. You can also go to the local library. If they have the ancestry library edition and you can search there.

Doesn't seem to find what I want. I know only year. I have access to the docs at the moment.

What year are you looking in? some of them are very vague. Try looking for a later year or a different person. Even tho we heard people came and stayed but many times they went back and forth. Both sides of mine had multiple crossings. Also the more vague you are the better. Do you have a town of origin or destination? Sometimes you can just put that in. Message me the name and I can give it a go.

End of the week forecast looks horrific. Now what am I supposed to do with the 300,000K people that are coming to my event??????

Send them to Waconia MN for the Taste Of Minnesota festival. From the sounds of it, many in the metro area are really pizzed off about the new location (it's about 45 minutes west of the original location, which is currently underwater, in a kind of redneck town), and are not going.

Is everyone still recovering?

Baking apple muffins.

Good Morning!
Were you going to share?

Tomorrow, my dad and I are going to look at replacement ovens. It will be cheaper to buy a refurbished second hand one than to get the current oven repaired.

Thanks for the link. There is at least one major fault in the area. There was a 6.7 earthquake a few months after I moved here, but only the usual dozens of quite small quakes since. Ironic that the original cost estimate was $2.8 billion - that's the same number here.

The Big Dig was 10+ years of traffic craziness. While it didn't alleviate any traffic, I love how it opened up downtown.

That was one of the selling points for the tunnel here, too. After the 6.7 earthquake the politicians used it to convince the voters to pass a 9 cent/gallon gas tax to replace the viaduct, which they said was going to fall down any day - 13 years later, that day still hasn't come.
