Good Morning, Lodge!

Oh how did I call this week! It is fun doing 3 people's jobs at the same time. It is more fun when you don't have a back up person as you are already the back up. This is a prime opportunity for others to step up, but to no avail.

Why would anyone step up when you're apparently willing to do the work for them? :p

Good morning to tLodge! ;)

D*mn. The forecast said rain off and on and there was some early morning lightning (without thunder), so I did a short fast ride near home instead of what I intended to do which would have involved getting 50 miles away, but now it is beautiful.

We (my coworker and I) recently decided to work from the corporate headquarters building one day of the week, Tuesdays. We normally sit at the aux office, because there weren't enough desks here, and our commutes are shorter where we're at now, so we didn't push it. The sales and marketing people complained, saying that we should be at corporate. Well, I was here every Tuesday previously, but these people never scheduled meetings for Tuesdays, so I went back to just going to my desk. We sent an email yesterday, saying "hey, we're going to be at corporate every Tuesday, so if you have any questions, or want to schedule meetings, we'll be there Tuesdays" I get to the corporate office building this morning, and see a response to that email, "We don't have enough time to prepare for Tuesday, can you come Wednesday this week?" NO! We picked a day, schedule your **** on TUESDAY. Seriously, we're not doing this so you can schedule one meeting, this week. These people grind my gears non-stop.

Soccer...that's that weird Euro sport that has "arrived" in the US, or so they have said for the last 40 years. Right?

I'd say it's arrived. It did beat the Stanley Cup, NBA Finals and the US Open (although an infomercial could have beaten the US Open this year)in ratings.

By that standard, Ice Dancing has also "arrived", every 4 years or so.

edit: from what I can tell, that soccer game got about 15 million people to watch, where as figure skating got 23 million. Arrived, indeed.

Obviously there's more to it than that.

People in the US care about figure skating once every 4 years, and they care about soccer once every ____ years, however long it is between these soccer tournaments. And figure skating gets better ratings.

People care way more than you think.

People care way more than you think.

And they apparently care less than they care about figure skating. To the tune of 8 million more households. The numbers don't lie.

I hate both of them, and wished neither was on TV, but then, that's why I have shows DVR'd and Netflix.

It is gorgeous out on our screened porch this morning. Jr brought me french toast out there. The Orioles have several babies in their basket nest in the maple - I can hear them whenever momma or daddy brings food. A momma wood duck with at least 8 babies went by our dock. The egret was fishing in the cattails and annoying the heck out of the redwing blackbirds.

I have to go see what BS the sales and marketing people have come with today in a few minutes, but I told them I'm done at noon, because I have an appointment with the guy printing my presentation material, which is 100% true. So my misery will be short lived.

I've got a cracked tooth and the pain is so bad at night it wakes me up. Going to the dentist today. Sigh. Going to be an annoying procedure and expensive.

I guess I'm going golfing tomorrow. All of the guys at the golf course decided that it would **** their friend off more than anything if they skipped league guest day due to his funeral. So they pushed back guest day by an hour and a half and now my dad and another friend need a player last minute. We're all going straight to the golf course from the funeral, and that is exactly the way Dale would have wanted it.

Quite the thunderstorm going on with several bolts touching down and lingering followed by BOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!

Nothing severe that I can tell, so a fun evening on the front porch. :)

So, I had stepped inside after this post for a moment and went back out and could hear a low roar in the distance which immediately caught my attention and then a moment later the sirens started up.

There's a primal sort of core fear that kicks in (at least for me) when you know something as out of (your) control and random as a tornado is somewhere nearby. Anyway...

The tornado last night actually hit in Verona less than a mile from my house. Wiped out a school and severely damaged about 15 homes including on a street where one of my boy's team mates lives. Haven't heard if their house got hit.

Luckily, no injuries.

Was driving in and a huge trampoline was in the ditch of the highway at least 1000 feet from the neighborhood that got hit and it didn't roll there as there were several tree lines in the way. Must have been a flying saucer at some point.

A couple of big branches came off my trees and found several pieces of polystyrene insulation in the yard - probably from the school. Other than that, we were spared.

Bunch of homes damaged and trees down in parts of Madison a couple of miles further on from my house as it skipped along, touching down here and there.

Btw, in case anyone wants to think that I may have been a Darwin Award candidate today if things had gone differently, there wasn't even a tornado watch in effect last night, so not like I was out when I shouldn't have been.

:p

You live in Wisconsin, if we thought anything other than you grabbing a beer/alcohol and going outside to watch, that'd be ignorant ;)

Glad it sounds like a mostly harmless weather event.
