Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

I'm narrowing my car search. How do people feel about Hyundai Elantra?
I know a couple people that drive them, and they're both happy with theirs. The only thing I don't like about them is that there's no spare tire, done so to meet higher MPG value claims. Instead, they provide you a cannister of Fix-a-Flat, which really only works for puncture issues in the tread and does not help you at all if you have a blowout or get a sidewall puncture.

The lack of spare tire was one of the things that irked me with my fiance's new Sonata. Yeah, fix-a-flat, that is a good replacement for a spare.

A lot of companies are doing it now, not just Hyundai. There are some cars where they recommend/require run flat tires and then include a can of fix-a-flat. It's mostly or all in the name of higher CAFE standards because they can only cut the weight of a vehicle so far. Perhaps in the next few years we'll see more vehicles get aluminum bases like the new F-150 in order to meet those requirements. Regardless, the spare tire was one of the first things to go. Good luck, country folk.

I will never have the problem. If they take a spare away, I'll just put my own in the bed. Screw their fuel economy BS.

Morning Lodge.

Jr had a game last night and got put on D. I figured it'd be a disaster, but he did OK and said he kind of liked it. He's not nearly physical enough to play D though. He didn't panic and made good breakout passes, as good as any of the D on his team. Game got chippy, but Jr was chatting with guys on the other bench in a friendly way - he played AAA a couple summers ago with some of them.
Smart defensemen don't have to be extremely physical, just enough so to make body contact. If he's good with his stick, stick on puck, he could survive without being very physical.

Time to upgrade to an RV :p

Seriously though... 4 hours AFTER the game?

We've had legitimate talks of going the RV route when he's done helping us with our college education. The parking is $100/game for the RV, and that's similar to a hotel price, often times cheaper on game weekends.

Does 4 hours seem like a lot of time or a crazy rule?:p

It seems pretty lenient to me and I wouldn't be surprised if it moved to three hours this year. The Gameday experience is such an awesome thing in Iowa City, and it's such an amazing time I get to spend with my dad, as well as my cousins and friends. I love the games, don't get me wrong, but they wouldn't be complete without the tailgate.

Just have to go to airplane mode now! Finally, that change was made.

Yeah, the new rules are great. You can't have you laptop on and open but that makes sense since it's fairly large and would do a significant amount of damage compared to a phone.

I say if you're getting a car, get a Camry. It'll last forever, has good size, and gets pretty good MPG.

Not good size. I've had one for a rental car, my head hits the ceiling. Terrible. Hate those cars with a passion, and have no love for anything Toyota makes. The Hyundai on the other hand, gives me plenty of "headspace", I have a good couple inches between my head and the ceiling. I've also had terrible luck in Mazdas, but Nissans and Fords are pretty good.

I suppose I am only 5' 10"..I hopefully someday will be able to reward myself with a truck, and hopefully my wife enjoys driving a Camry:p

I don't like Toyota either, the seats on those things are not comfortable.

I have decided to build a yard/garden shed this summer (most likely after the wedding). Designing and building myself, and actually drawing up some designs, unlike the bar I made a few years ago. Gotta make it nice, ya know.

I don't see the point in requiring people to stick around after the game. I assume it's done for everybody else so have set up in the driving areas of the lot. But c'mon.

It's not requiring them to stay after the game for four hours. They only have up to four hours to hang out afterward before they get out. At least that's how I'm reading it. So, for an 11 am kick, you'd have to be out earlier than you'd probably want to be, especially if it were a gorgeous fall Saturday. (Not doing the math because NO MATH!!)
