Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Been sitting at my brother's house since shortly before 8. He's getting carpet installed. No idea how much longer this is going to take.

They showed at 9:45...now waiting for them to finish.

Also had to shovel a path for them from the street to the front door, since he didn't touch his driveway.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Crazy day yesterday. Shortly after I posted here yesterday morning, I saw a post on facebook from my mom, saying that she can't find one of her dogs (Zoey), with a picture of Zoey. I called her right away, and she said that the dogs ran off to the woods yesterday(Tuesday) afternoon, and only Gunner came back. We have about 800 acres of woods behind my parents house, and the dogs run back there all the time. My mom had been out all night looking for Zoey, and was going back out again. She broke down crying, saying that she thought Zoey was dead, and that she just hoped we found her so she could bury her in her garden. She was wreck, and my dad is out of town this week so she was alone. Those dogs are as close to being part of the family as a dog can be. The girl and I decided that we had to go down there and help my mom, she couldn't go through this alone. We drove down in the crappy weather, and started searching. We knew the area they were in, because it hadn't snowed down there in this storm, so we could follow Gunner's tracks back to the woods. We searched from about 11AM until dark, and found nothing. With my mom breaking down in tears many times, it was good we were there just because she needed a hug more than a few times. We got back in the house, and had given up hope, especially with the bitter cold coming in, and my mom finally got a call from someone saying they found Zoey. I got the phone from my mom (more tears, happy ones this time), got the address and we went to get her. The GPS in my truck said she was 11 miles away! We got to the farm, and the farmer that found her said he saw her sleeping in his corn crib, and when she saw him, she followed him back to his shop. He let her in, and gave her food and water, because she was in really rough shape, then called my mom's phone number which was on Zoey's tag. After my mom finally quit hugging Zoey, we checked her out and she had a very bad gash on her belly, so deep that I could see her stomach/intestines. We called the vet, and my mom and sister (she drove down from the cities too) took her to the vet. The vet said she'd be ok, but she has some serious muscle damage, but no internal damage. She got stitches, a drain, a cone, painkillers and a bunch of antibiotics, but the important thing is she was home with my mom last night, so it all ended up happy.

We don't now how she got that kind of injury, it looked like a puncture wound. We dont' think anyone did anything to her, it was probably just an accident. We think she probably got hurt, went into a kind of shock, and lost her sense of direction, and just kept walking/running in the wrong direction, thinking she was going home. Luckily that guy found her, and cared for her.
I think you guys owe that farmer and perhaps even a Favor sometime in the future. Glad Zooey is alright!

My mom tried to give him money right away, but he wouldn't take it. I'm sure she'll do something nice, get him a gift certificate, or put a thank you in the newspaper, or something like that. She's not the type to let a good deed like that go unrewarded. He even sent her a text this morning checking to make sure Zoey was ok. Genuinely nice guy.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Am I the only person who doesn't understand the last option on this poll/pole/pohl/poul(try)? What are you doing for Thanksgiving? Answer: Freddy Meyer Hacked my turkey. That doesn't answer the question and for that I give this poll/pole/pohl/poul(try) an F for fail. If I get a good enough response I may be persuaded to raise that grade... Happy almost Friday my puck peeps...

What a relief you guys found the dog because yesterday I ate some chinese food and the beef didn't taste like beef. :D:p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

So I'm stranded here in Dallas. All events cancelled because they're supposed to get hit with a bad ice storm. Couldn't get out tonight, changed the flight to Saturday afternoon. Ugh.

Sounds like you need a cookie AND a martini.

Hmmm... anyone else questioning this? MNS's brother is having carpet installed and MNS is the one hanging around waiting. Brother must be a genius! ;)

Think positive dear... there are much worse places you could be stranded.

It just wasn't in either of the dogs nature to be away from each other. They are brother/sister and inseparable, so when one came back without the other it was a bad sign.
First off, I'm glad to hear everything turned out for the better. Hopefully she'll mend quickly.

Just curious... if the other dog came home, was he acting differently? Like, "hey guys, get out there and find sis". Animals are simply amazing with the way they can sense things.

That is one of the things we were looking for, but his attitude was like he was depressed, and quiet. It wasn't manic like he didn't know where she was, and he was panicking. And he wasn't trying to lead us in a certain direction. The impression we got from him was that he knew she was gone and he was sad about it. That was one of the reasons we didn't have much hope during the day yesterday. I think he knew that something was wrong, and he was already thinking the same thing we were. He was probably out there looking for her for a while before he even headed home on Tuesday afternoon. Usually when they get separated he goes looking for her, she's the leader and he follows.

Gunner's eyes lit up when Zoey walked through the door, but he knew she was hurt, and kept his distance after checking on her right away. From talking with my mom today, it sounds like they are getting back to normal, but Zoey is still in a bit a pain, and getting the painkillers.
