Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #170: Fair Weather

Good Morning Lodge.

Short of being held at gunpoint, why would anybody go to Cedar Rapids??

If you are at a conference in Iowa City and you and Almington want to go to a USHL game in Cedar Rapids. That's why I went the one time I was there.

So now my car has, indeed, been declared totaled. Car shopping this weekend. :( My initial thought when I saw how bad it looked was it would be totaled. I was shocked when the repair shop guys said it was "not even close" - now they've looked more carefully and declared it totaled.

I know Ziegler carries some nice emergency gensets. ;-)

The generator worked perfectly. The people who designed the setup decided that they didn't need backup power for the whole building so it was only sized for life-safety for this building. I sit at the "office annex" which is just an offsite office building. If I were at the plant it wouldn't have been a problem since they have backup power for the whole plant....something like 5 2MW sets. (I think it is a bit oversized)

I know, but I had to poke you about a Cat genset. Usually we ask the Owner what they want on beyond code minimum. I've had clients who want EVERYTHING on emergency power and others, who seem just as critical in my view, who want only the minimum. Then we had one hospital who has a utility owned generator designed for load shedding sitting right next to them, basically backing up their whole campus, who couldn't comprehend why that couldn't be used to meet code.

Mornin' Loj. Roof reconstruction directly outside my office window. This should make for a slightly distracted day.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #170: Fair Weather

Add Houston, TX to the list of places I'll probably have to travel in the next 3 weeks. My coworker had two weeks notice that he has to travel to some small village in southern India, so I guess I didn't get the worst travel setup. :p

Update: just as the roof was removed down to the rafters, the skys opened up with a monsoonal downpour, causing significant flooding to the offices below. Police, fire, flood recovery on site, dogs and cats living together to ensue...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #170: Fair Weather

Friday the 13th has been a Tuesday here at work. I'm not amused.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #170: Fair Weather

I worked from 8-4, short of a 15 minute break at 12:30 to wolf down a turkey sandwich. Requirements docs, requirements docs, requirements docs.

This is the worst part of being a BA. It's so mundane because documentation/writing is what you're good at, and why they hired you in the first place.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #170: Fair Weather

For you as well? I thought it was just me. I am so fried right now.

It was decent for me, but then again, 13 is a lucky number for me. :D

Well, decent if we're being relative to what work has been like for the past month or two. ;)

Sounds like things will be getting better, as a bunch of new hires started this week and a couple more next week.
