Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

I was: a) busting Twitch for getting "voice of his generation"-ish; b) being get-off-my-lawn-ish, getting cranky at (and making fun of) the young folks who think flip-flops are shoes, perfectly acceptable in weddings, offices, White House visits, etc., rather than what they are, which is for wearing in public showers or to the beach. Mostly a) .

Don't make me get all wub wub up in here.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

I own a pair of (probably knock-off) Crocs. They're my "run outside and take out the trash" shoes. They were $10 at Freddie's. Don't judge me.
I'm not sure what those are, but based on what you quoted I'm guessing they're sandles.

I have 2 pairs of Tony Lama's, one black suede, the other chocolate brown steer shoulder, 1 pair of steel toe Red Wing work boots, 1 pair of brown and 1 pair of black leather casual/dress shoes for work, 1 pair of athletic shoes, 1 pair of Foot Joy golf shoes, and 1 pair of shiny black very dressy shoes to wear with my suit. I think I have too many shoes, and people want me to buy more!

Crocs are rubber clogs.

Eight pairs?! What are you, a woman?! I have dress shoes, sneakers, and flip flops. That's it.

Flip flops are useless, I have no need for them. Cowboy boots, work boots, work shoes, athletic shoes, dress shoes and golf shoes. Its not outrageous. Besides, what would I wear to the bar if I just had the 3 that you mentioned? I wouldn't be able to walk on the shop floor at work without steel toes. I wouldn't want to golf without my foot joys. I can't wear dress shoes out on the farm at home, unless you think its OK to wear a suit and have **** on your shoes.

A bit old-fashioned, are we? Or have you always been asking for dates? ;)

Last shrink told me it was for the best... Logic goes that being able to play in full is a signal you can provide... Or alternative does not provide a signal that you can't. Same with coupons... Don't use them.

Fact is, a lot of have been trained by society that men and women are socially equal. The reality is not only is that not true but it also goes both ways.

Edit: accept that whatever you have been taught is wrong. It sucks, but its true. The next is trying to figure out the world as it actually is as opposed to how others hope it would be

If I knew how to shop I'd buy a few more pairs to give some options.

Don't think of it as being Amelda Marcos, think of it like having tools in a set.

3 pair of winter boots (about to toss two of them now that I've found ones I like), one pair of brown casual shoes, three pairs of athletic shoes (one decent pair and two junker pairs for working around the house), one pair of sandals, two pairs of black work shoes (one for seriously dressy situations like when clients visit, and the other more casual).

Given we all have different opinions, perhaps the moral is to prepare for any possible contingency.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

Alright, how about, you are young, take it easy, live your life, something will happen. Even if she's looking to go wild doesn't mean you have to. Your life is relatively stable and you have a lot of positive things going on. Enjoy the summer and don't let it wreck you.
This is so, so key. Try doing this each and every day, with success some days and struggle on others. I know I'm going to be successful, and that I just need to trust in God's plan. It's just easier said that done. I've never had to deal with anything like this before.
Pithy and true.

It isn't bad to want to spend a whole lot of time together. Some people (my Dad and his wife) have always been like that but they fit so well together that it was never a problem. It isn't always about adjusting how you handle things as much as if the fit is right. Sounds like the person of the female persuasion is belongs in Dr Doolittle. Push me pull you. Want to be together all the time, it is too much to be together all the time. Sounds to me like she is a work in progress and absorbed in what she wants out of it. Nothing wrong with wanting what you want but if it doesn't fit the other person's wants it is time to reassess.

Mavsy- the question is do you want what you had in her or who she is (doesn't sound like she knows who that is)? Even the most toxic relationships people have a hard time leaving because at the beginning there was something that worked. It is hard to give up the thought you could have what you did- even if it isn't there anymore.
I don't think we can obtain what we had; I believe that after something like this, things will be different, whether for the better or worse. I also believe I want who she is; she's loving, caring, positive, and her strength is unbelievable. We value virtually the same things, she always puts others first, etc. She's somebody that I can actually see myself spending my life with, someone who really is a best friend. Someone who understands my life and who i am, and is a positive supplement to my life.

All contact between us the last week or two I've made her initiate. I don't text her first, ask her to do lunch, see her, etc. And virtually every day she's contacted me. Still tells me she loves me.

I guess I'm confused each and every day.

Thanks for everyone putting up with this, I'm sure it's fairly annoying.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

I believe the guy always pays. If she pays, it's after she's insisted and gets annoyed by the fact you won't let her treat you for once.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

Sounds like it's time for your brother to have a heart-to-heart with the boyfriend . . . . while cleaning his shotgun.
Worked for my Dad :D

Only bulldykes like RWD would think that is sexist. The rest of us call it common courtesy.
 Not a bulldyke. If I wanted to go to something I paid. If he did he paid. 25 yrs later it looks like it was an OK plan.

Am I really reading posts from men about how many shoes they own? Can't participate. I don't feel like typing all that.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

I have never had an issue paying, I just want the girl to offer to pay from time to time.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

I pay. Period. It's the least I can do when I find someone that can tolerate me for an evening.

2 pairs dress shoes
2 pairs tennis shoes (one of which is at least 10 years old, and I use them to mow/do yard work)
1 pair sandles
1 pair golf shoes
1 pair work boots

End.

Just had an interesting thought... The idea that a guy needs to buy the meal is sexist. It is a gender expectation bias.

However, wanting to take a woman out or be out with her on a date is also sexist.

Both are a matter of degrees and there isn't necessarily wrong with them. The problem is a string of implicits that people string together... Buying is sexist as its looking to purchase of coerce a woman which makes her an object which makes her more likely to be chattel... Etc, etc, etc. it neglects that women like and value such things even if it is unsaid. At some point one has to just let things be and stop striving to upend the entire society because somebody else was vicious to others.

Was a teenager when Feminism was rearing its head. My culture was to strive for equality as was Mr les'. It wasn't a matter of turning anything upside-down. We were both comfortable with letting each other pay. Most of the time he did but if I wanted to it wasn't a world event.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

Guy pays (unless the LTR thing bbdl brought up).

Steel-toed athletic shoes (yes, they are my everyday shoes, at work or not; hey, they're Converses!), brown loafers, black dress shoes. I think I have an old pair of the shoes I used for boothockey, and some Sorel boots somewhere, but I haven't worn them in years, and have no clue where they are. I also have a pair of cheap moccasins I got at Target for when I go out to have a cig in winter.
