Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #166; And Now On To....

I think if I showed up with incorrect footwear, the bride would shoot me herself. I was warned.
But if the correct footwear is badly scuffed, or has something stinky stuck in the sole..... Then she would make you wear the boots. The trick is to make it HER idea for you to wear the boots. Just make sure they've got a good shine on them.

So you're suggesting the purchase of a copious amount of shinola?

Ah, good. I don't have to lecture another young'n about wearing a jacket to a wedding.

I always wear/wore a jacket to weddings (no, I'm not that much of a young'n anymore, hence also saying "wore"). ;)

The worst one (and I was in the wedding, so it wasn't a choice anyway) was a few years ago, during one of those MN humid heat waves. It was just over 100 degrees, outdoor wedding, and the reception hall was not air-conditioned, either. Spent about 8-9 hours fully suited-up. I felt sorry for the tux place that rented those things to us. I can't imagine the smell coming from the suit bags when they opened them up.

My buddy got the idea to get married at the end of July. It was 91 at noon, and we're outside in this parking lot getting pics taken before the wedding. Afterwards we commandeered about 4 fans for each room and tried to cool down. Just about the only way we cooled down was when we got into the limo and commenced drinking half the county dry.

And you probably sweated it out just as fast as you were drinking it.

Yeah, proper hydration has always been the key to remaining cool.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #166; And Now On To....

So we witnessed an odd phenomenon in our pond last spring and it was repeated to lesser degree this spring. I wish Rock Doc was still posting.

The pond behind our house (about 5 acres) is only about 2-3 feet deep with a very mucky bottom. If you fell in you might drown because you'd sink 3' in the mud and then another 3' of water will put it above most of our noses (maybe not bb's). The level has been down the past couple years due to drought and the drying up of what had been a consistent source of water flow into it.

Last spring as the ice started to melt, I could see sticks and mud being exposed. I was baffled because while it was low, it wasn't low enough to show bottom. Same thing has happened this spring. Last spring I finally figured it out. The ice had frozen all the way to the bottom - and INTO the bottom. When the ice on top started to melt, this muddy ice floated up, forming a big dirtcicle that floated on top. Just a lovely look to the pond in the spring. Fortunately it is already starting to melt and sink back to the bottom.

you really need to get out more ;)

this.

except for that hat though :D

I wear a suit 5 days a week. I hate wearing one on the weekend......

For those of you keeping score from home, heavy wet snow here in 320ville. Couple inches already. When is this going to end?

I wear a suit for weddings and funerals. Maybe one other occasion every 4-5 years or so.

August 1999, I went to the wedding of a very distant family friend in SE Ohio en-route to a Florida vacation with my grandparents. It was 103 degrees on the wedding day. SE Ohio is, of course, Bumfck Nowheresville, and the church in Dillionvale did not have a/c. Neither did the community hall in Stuebenville where they had the reception.

I don't handle temps above 80 very well; my suit was practically a puddle at the end of the day.
