Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #158: Lodge Member's Habits

Good morning Lodge.

I'd be thrilled to spend all that time in the kitchen. As long as I have the option to wear socks or slippers; sometimes it's just too cold to go barefoot.

Especially while pregnant!

Good morning Lodge.

Where did the year go? I can't believe Thanksgiving is next week.

Only one month, one week and one day until the world ends (supposedly).

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #158: Lodge Member's Habits

Morning, Loj. Gosh, there's a lot to catch up with. Here we go:

My niece gave hockey a shot a few weeks ago. She loves it. She is already a mite.

Go Little soh! :)

Hanging out in Amsterdam waiting for my connection to Glasgow. Yippee. The good news is I don't have to work today when I get there because the customer decided I'd be getting there too late to get anything done today anyways, which is probably true.

Have you heard the UK's largest Country/Western bar is in Glasgow? Called the Grand Ole Opry, interestingly.

I don't think it's cooking those newlyweds do in the kitchen.

wT, it was pretty hilarious watching you talk to yourself as the old thread closed out yesterday. :p

So I'm reading CNN, and see that the Sports Illustrated article they linked has the Gophers going to the Meineke Texas Bowl. The only thing that comes to mind is to wonder if George Foreman will be there and if he'll also be selling grills.

Afternoon, all.

I'm going to do some exploring around the College of Business department this week and explore some opportunities. I just don't know if Engineering is right for me, so I want to fully explore everything else prior to fully investing myself and the rest of my time and money into an engineering degree; I just want to make sure i'll enjoy what I'm doing.

Ah! that is what that entry in the poll is about. Now all I don't understand is what AMPs is about and whether or not "Forklife" is a typo.

Asian Massage Parlors, I'm guessing.

Forklife 4 Life!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #158: Lodge Member's Habits

My car passed inspection. :)

I figured that since I am retired, 10 AM was probably a good time to go since it was after everyone was at work. Wrong! The line was around the block. (DC does its own inspections.)

I went again at about 1:30, and I was in and out in about 45 minutes.

I add that the inspection station is normally open Tuesday - Saturday, and because of the Holiday it was closed on Saturday, so today was probably a bad day to go anyway.

Howdy. Loading our barges today sometime, then maybe heading east, depends on weather/wind/waves. Hope we can get somewhere good for me to get off the boat Thursday AM!

What is it that you're not digging in engineering? Did your exam not go as planned? If that's it, don't let one bad test dissuade you. If you're losing an actual interest in the subject, then it's time to consider switching majors. But let me say, accounting classes aren't exactly rip-roaring fun.

If you have an aptitude for the math, you might want to stick with something in that line of thinking. While accounting, investing, economics all have their charms, something in the line of physics, math, and statistics degrees would be much more marketable. Thinking along those lines, a combination of math and finance or math and economics would be a great path towards grad school. People in those fields with advanced mathematical skills are very highly prized. You can accomplish a lot in those fields with a strong understanding of calculus - total expected economic profits are found in the area between the two intersecting points of a marginal social revenue and marginal social cost functions.

Tangent to that point, if Mankato State offers the degree, a business statistics degree can be very attractive to employers. SCSU incorporates its Information Systems degree into its business college, which may be along the path you're talking about. I took a roundabout way of getting that sort of degree with an economics major and microcomputer studies minor (which I just learned that department no longer exists at SCSU, rolled into the comp. sciences section of the math department). And I would argue taking the roundabout path in school held me back the first few years out of college.

The municipality of Anchorage just stopped doing I/M checks. They said smog hasn't been an issue since pollution controls have improved over the years and it was a waste of everyone's time and money. Though some of the cars I see pouring black smoke out the exhaust I wonder how on earth they ever passed.

In MN, we stopped doing them sometime in the late 90's - '98 or '99 - for the same reasons as Anchorage. The numbers simply weren't changing and the costs of doing those tests were high.

Speaking of which, I just renewed my tabs today. I spent a $1.75 for a convenience fee paid to US Bank for handling the online transaction on behalf of the state. I'll gladly pay the $1.75 if it means not wasting my time by standing in line at the DMV.

I would guess that they test for NOx, and just because there is black smoke (technically called particulate matter) doesn't mean there is NOx. If they are testing for PM, then those cars belching black smoke should not pass.

DaveSP, I didn't know about the country bar in Glasgow. I don't think I'll be able to make it there, I flew into Glasgow, but I'm staying and working a bit out of town.

DMV lines are notoriously bad in Anchorage. I usually go to Eagle River 10 miles out of town because it has shorter lines. Usually I can walk in and out. If I'm stuck going to Anchorage, I just take a number, hang around a few minutes to see how fast things are moving, extrapolate how long it's going to take, then go home and come back when it's time.

Did my tabs online. Good for two years. Might do personalized plates (they start at $30 here so everyone and their brother has them.) However, you only get 6 letters.

Brought the little one to her first hockey game this weekend. She loved it! It was well past her bed time (her bed time was when the puck dropped) and she was up and happy and excited the entire time! That is all on the slippers front. Morning tLodge! Happy day that ends in y!

The PM and HC limits for AK were sky high (barrly worth testing) and the NOx levels must have come down so that NO2 doesn't exceed the NAAQS of 53ppb and Ozone doesn't (regularly) exceed the NAAQS of 75 ppb so that it doesn't make it worth testing for.
