And now I wait for the Oakridge school district to call me back. If they call me by Thursday, I'll be a bus driver, and my license will be paid for by them. Only thing I'd have to cover is the physical and fingerprint check.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #153: Condiments, anyone?

Enjoying wing night and dollar drafts of Batty Blue. Solid.

Also, no issues found on my house by the home inspector. 9 days until closing!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #153: Condiments, anyone?

Favorite. Movie. Ever!!!! I always wanted a Jake Ryan in my life. *swoon*

Anyway, likes Political Animals a lot. Not sure I liked the actor playing the former president. He's not American and his southern accent is pretty bad but Sigourney Weaver was great and I liked the reporter much more than I thought I would. I think it will be a great mini series instead of a show.

1) RE: Sixteen Candles -- you are a fine, discerning lady. That movie is so awesome that my dad -- who never let the word "hell" enter our house, let alone a movie with drugs, underage drinking, blatant attempts at sex before marriage, etc etc, enter his house -- said to us one day: "Kids, I've rented a movie that's pretty funny. It's a little raw in places, but I can't help myself. It's called Sixteen Candles." :D

2) RE: Ciaran Hinds, the actor playing Sigourney's ex -- I've loved that guy since I first saw him as Caeser in HBO's Rome. Everything he does is amazing. He's a real pro. He's fantastic in Veronica Guerin, and in Lara Croft Tomb Raider, and Munich, and really a lot in Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day; heck, even in that tiny bit in In Bruges. But yeah, watching the new show, I thought, "They've drawn that character a liiiiiiitle broadly." :) His accent isn't THAT bad, for a Belfast guy. I'm chalking it up to the writers, anyway. :D

Dave, yup, Lafayette and W. Lafayette for the weekend. Groom is a Boilermaker.

Cool, thanks. I grew up 45 minutes from there, and have many fine memories of many fine Purdue football and basketball games. (But MAN was that town slow when college wasn't in session.)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #153: Condiments, anyone?

Well, that was a helluva day at work. Got out about 8pm, and as I was walking out of the main building, our UPS semi-truck driver asked me who drove a green pickup truck. I said "so-and-so" (who happens to be my off-site co-worker) figuring he had to move the truck so the UPS guy could make the turn in the parking lot to back up the new trailer.

Nope. UPS guy moved it for him. With the back of his truck.

It didn't look like any damage minus a cracked turn light and/or headlight, probably due to the UPS truck moving so slow. It looked like it simply pushed the truck (this is a full size pickup) out of the parking space and turned it about 45 degrees. Yeah. To top it off, my co-worker was looking forward to his day off tomorrow. Oops.

So much for that for him tomorrow. Shouldn't have parked it there anyways right??

Oh sweet Jebus!!! The D2Football.com board has added the Rep system there. I'm so going to end up being the Godfather over there soon. ;)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #153: Condiments, anyone?

We have a small parking lot (relatively, for semi-trucks to dock the trucks). There are spots that probably shouldn't be used later at night if a rookie driver comes around. This guy was a vet, and he admitted he messed up. Frankly, I think some simple paperwork is all my co-worker will have to deal with. Again, I didn't see any real damage, but the hassle of the phone calls/paperwork would mess up my day off enough to make me mad.

I mean, he's on the clock, so the company's insurance, his insurance, and UPS's insurance will end up duking it out, I'm sure.

yeah, its going to be a pain in the butt, but yeah, the semi-truck driver admitted fault there, so he just has the problem of going thru all the paperwork.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #153: Condiments, anyone?

My gf told me that she saw a billboard out in Nevada tonight that said "Before meth, I had a daughter. Now I have a prostitute." Awesome.

And I know UPS is very strict on their drivers/vehicles. I'm wondering what's gonna happen to the driver. On one hand, not a serious accident. However, it IS an accident. They don't like ANYTHING that tarnishes their image. IIRC, if a driver's truck breaks down, they are instructed to call UPS, and UPS will arrange a tow that will remove the broken down vehicle within 30 minutes, tops, to keep the image that UPS vehicles do NOT break down.

Yeah, I could see where UPS wouldn't want a UPS truck just sitting there broken down by the side of the road. that's bad PR.

I think JimJamesak used to work for UPS, dunno if he was a driver, but he shed some light on some of the happenings there, that's for sure. Same with the driver (non-semi-truck) at my old job. There are strict regulations and procedures for EVERYTHING.

I thought it was something for a big distrabution center they have up there I think. sort out a lot of the stuff that's gotta go to the Far East, and send it on cargo plans on runs to Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Bangkok.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #153: Condiments, anyone?

UPS are *******s to work for.

From what I hear, until you are a driver, they are indeed. And to become a driver, you slave away for quite a while. To get a decent route? You slave away some more.

FedEx (including drivers) is also a tough job. Drivers get so many cents per package they pick up, on top of their salary. And I'll tell you, it ain't much. I know how much our driver gets, and given the years of his service? Wow.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #153: Condiments, anyone?

My boss has started a few people in my group to work on getting new job descriptions in place for my team. The new job descriptions could - distant could, IMO - net most everyone in my group a 20%-60% bump in pay grade. He's worried that some of us are looking to scoot on out of there for greener pastures. We lost four people last year to competitors offering substantially more money, so it's not an unlikely scenario. I've stuck around because I have a few goals to meet before checking out for the money, but if this comes through I might just stay around for a bit longer. I learned this about a half-hour before leaving for the day. A crummy day became a whole lot better towards the end there.

Can I have one of those? Had a job interview today.. I don't think it went well... 2 hrs... All the meetings seemed fairly brief. Not sure what either of us could get out of it. My industry is tight right now unless I want to move... This economy needs to get humming again. Then I'll have no problem getting what I want... For now... Just biding time.

The Toyota dealership keeps sending emails and phone calls... Biding my time...
