Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 145: are you giving up something for lent??

Yikes, sorry to hear that Goldy. Our industry is fickle. I'm running into a quirk in that even "entry" level positions are looking for someone with a PE here in Illinois. Why? Because the industry is so *ing backwards that they want someone to pin problems on.

If I can't find something by mid-summer, I think I'm going to bite the bullet and go back to school. (Yay! More debt!)

(les, 80% of them come from the father of a friend of mine from high school. 1 out of 10 I read and pellet bck how something is wrong... He'll respond that he didn't know that and will look it up. Then thank me. I figure I'm keeping him away from his wife, so Babs [her name] owes me ;) )
I have an in-law like that only he has OCD and is incapable of understanding something is misinformation. After I hit reply all and posted stuff re Snopes links etc I was off his list. Phew

Crap. Just got laid off. Never happened to me before. Obviously a bad move to jump to this firm when it wasn't established yet. They don't have much work and I couldn't get it in the door fast enough.

Sorry to hear that. :(

That's no good. :(

Sorry to hear. Hopefully things work out for the best.

Wow goldy, that's awful news. :( Did you get any severance or anything? Can you check with your previous firm about going back there? I wish I had words of wisdom.

And I feel for the others here who are still looking for work. You know, in the last few years I've really tried to not get to a point where I hate my job because, well, I have a job and it pays pretty well. I don't know what I would do if I got laid off. I did get laid off from the job I had before this one but the market was totally different at that point and I had more than one opportunity, and that was with barely looking. How times have changed.

I will get some severance. Probably like 2 weeks pay plus the 59 hours or so of PTO I've accrued. It's not like we live check-to-check or anything. Our house is paid off, my wife works and could likely add more clients if she has to. I may, in fact, go back to my previous firm. The CEO has told me they'd welcome me back and they have not found my replacement yet. They've been surviving with my predecessor coming back in, but he'll likely be gone more now that the weather will get nice. I'm not going to rush back there though. Plenty of reasons why I was glad to get out. I'll look around a little first. Might try the firm I was with for about 16 years up till about 5 years ago. If they have work, I'm sure they'd take me back.

At least you have some options.
