Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 139: The Halloween Edition

Last night's posts are an exercise in remembering what people will do to get a little...
Its not even an attempt at that. The girl is obviously interested in me, I may as well see if I'm interested in her. Like I said before, I'm not going into this thinking I'm going to end up in a fleabag hotel after the hockey game. If she's (too) crazy, or uninteresting, or a Canucks fan, I'll cut ties, if not, who knows.

Good morning from DFW. Waiting to board my flight. Me and a bevy of babies and toddlers, some of who have already started screaming.

Hello, Lodge! Dang snow & ice! Haven't had power since Saturday at some point (worked until 10:15pm). No heat. :( Tried to do some reading for school yesterday at home & my fingernails turned blue. Hoping to have power by Thursday. Street across from us got power sometime in the wee hours of this morning. Thank goodness our gym got power yesterday morning so I've had a hot shower the last two days! Only way to keep warm at night doesnt always leave you smelling the best. :p

It's like you have your own personal baby entourage when you travel! ;) :D

Maybe its Nature's way of telling your clock is ticking.... ;)

Off to go do some hot stone training this morning. :D

Mornin', Loj.

I just caught that Subaru ad this weekend where they're hauling three boys around to various hockey games. My first thought was that the ad was hilarious, and obviously made by somebody with a kid in hockey, esp. the little things like the kid trying to scratch his nose through the mask. But what's your immediate second thought? "I wouldn't want to smell the inside of that car." :D

Just to be safe, I think you'll have to frisk her upon meeting her, just to make sure she's safe-ish.

I believe a Minneapolis ad agency got the American Subaru contract within the last year or so.

Depends. They are little kids and don't smell as bad as the ones who have hit puberty. In fact, if the parents make the kids hang their gear up after getting it home it's not bad at all (other than the inside of the gloves). Worst in our car was this past summer when the kid was at camp for a week and we stayed up there for a night after picking him up and had to leave the bag in the car overnight.

I ordered something from Barnes and Noble last week. They shipped from Nevada by UPS. Yesterday it got to Landover, MD, a suburb of DC, where it was transferred to the USPS for final delivery. Today it is in Nashville, TN.

It's all about efficiency...

ETA: My firm's home office is right on Times Square in NYC. They are hosting an event for the Thanksgiving Day Parade in their offices. Looks like it would be lots of fun, wish I could go out there for it.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 139: The Halloween Edition

Just got back from picking up my new glasses from the optometrist. and I'm pi**ed off. They talked up the praises of the new poly-carbonite lenses for being lighter and 100% covered by my insurance. Since it had been five years, I knew I needed glasses so I got new frames and lenses.

Holy crap are these plastic lenses bullsh**. I've had glass lenses since I was in 3rd grade, so switching to the new plastic lenses, no one told me I'd get tunnel vision with them.

Then, the gal fitting my frames tries to sooth it by saying that "we all get used to it," and to "give it a try for a few days."

Holy mother of *. It's really noticeable when doing pretty much anything.

They're going to call and discuss with the insurance company how much it would be extra to have glass lenses put in, but want me to try these for a few days.

I'm not happy, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Random fun fact: order an Apple product sometime and track it. Odds are it will pass through Anchorage, AK.

Anchorage is one of the top international shipping hubs in the world (I believe it's third behind Hong Kong and Memphis, which is FedEx's main US hub.) It's an 8-hour flight away from pretty much anywhere in the developed Northern Hemisphere.

Thats not really surprising given that it is essentially half way between East Asia (China, Japan, Korea, etc.) and major US markets. Actually it makes quite a bit of sense.

Doesn't PANC have a runway dedicated solely to cargo?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 139: The Halloween Edition

aparch, have you thought of buying them online... they're comparably dirt cheap. I can probably buy 3 really good pairs with all the options for what you spent.

If anything could ever turn me off of having kids, it's screaming babies on airplanes. Had more on the Charlotte-Boston leg, one in particular screamed about 80% of the flight.

I ordered a recognition award thing and was told it shipped. Friday I got one of those stickers on my door. Just got home and saw the 2nd attempt was yesterday. They said the third attempt will be today after 5pm. I'm glad I'm home. The company that shipped it is asking for a signature. I'm never home when UPS comes.

ETA: It just came!! Yay!

If you can find a way to go, do it. I had a blast two years ago. And then you could stay in NYC and come to Round 3 of Red Hot Hockey at Madison Square Garden and catch BU and Cornell!

Yay! I finally feel some reward for working so many **** hours away from home. Boss finally gave me the # for my bonus based on all my overtime. The $ amount was right on with what I thought the minimum could be depending on how they dealt with some special case things (Fiscal year started on a friday, overhead billing, etc). Good feeling to know they didn't adjust it down on me and I will be getting almost a 5 figure bonus this year! If it wasn't for the government shutdown it probably would be a 5 figure bonus.

I had thought about it, but my insurance company paid for 3/4th of it. And I hadn't had an eye exam in six years. :o So I wanted to get everything taken care of. Thankfully, my vision loss was stable (and hadn't changed in six years), but the astigmatism had changed shape a bit.

This whole "tunnel vision" effect with the plastic lenses is new to me. I had never experienced it before in any of my glass lens eyewear, and couldn't believe how flippant they were in disregarding it.

I'm sure the fact that I wore my old prescription in the morning and got the new ones after lunch contributed a bit to the problem, but it's still pretty annoying.
