Ok, I have to admit, I laughed a little when I saw that #ReasonsToBeatYourGirlfriend was trending on twitter, as bad as that is. :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

Morning all. At work, and its shaping up to be pretty slow, hence why I'm online kevtching about it. Only one massage on the schedule for the morning here, a 90 with one of my regulars. But at least I do get to recieve my monthly trade today, so I do have that going on for me.

Oh, you guys may want to keep an eye on my rep total. Did kinda poke a stick at some of the UMTC fans in the Alaska rumors thread. Might need a refill later on today. :D

Nobody cares what you post in any case. :p And no one cares about that thread - especially since it became a UAA - UA_ peeing match.

Filthy rodent! :p

Actually do have a grey rep from that thread right now, but I think the guy might have been trying to give me positive rep for it, judging from the commit. At least it not some sort of insult that the Commie would think up, and it be signed "Rimmy". :D

I just read an article that said some guy in New York created a fusion reactor in warehouse. Yeah, I'm sure, if the dude figured out fusion it would be the biggest news in the last decade.
The government is testing out an ultra-powerful laser on pellets to get a sustainable fusion reaction. With any luck, proof of concept will happen within a decade, and the technology will be ready for public consumption in... 50 years. :p

I'm pretty sure no. Saw that story, and it's the truth. One of my old college roommates did paper mill runs from Two Harbors to Duluth, and he was definitely one of the ones who, if he could legally drive, he would. The money isn't that great relatively, and yeah you miss a lot of what is considered a "normal" life. I can only imagine what true over-the-road (long haul) truckers deal with.

Yeah, same here. My Mother's Father used to deliver gas around to different gas stations around SE Michigan. A gig like that would be pretty **** nice compared to some of those guys who are going at least a 1000 miles a run.

From what I hear, the dispatchers have it down to just a few minutes' window for runs. So if there's bad weather, traffic jam, whatever, then the deadline is missed. Obviously lots of fudging before all the computer technology. And that also goes for the wieght of the load. One of the guys at the Two Harbors loading plant was dam good. Could get the load within 50 lbs of the 80K max (IIRC that was the max total weight of truck/load) 99.9% of the time, using only his judgement and his power equipment.

He filled the truck up with basically wood mulch, you drove a couple hundred yards to get on the scale, and if the weight was where you wanted it (and legal), you were good to go. If not, drive back and try again.

Morning!

Another nice day out today and another 3-day weekend for me. I love my summer schedule this year. :)

Good morning, Lodge! The house smells like apple-smoked bacon right now...

80k lbs is the weight limit, as long as you have a long enough wheelbase, which 99% of over-the-road trucks would. When I used to drive truck the most I ever had it loaded was 92k lbs. Oops.

Morning Lodge. For once I get a three day weekend too. Mrs goldy and I are driving up to Breezy Point tomorrow to watch some kid hockey and pick-up jr after his camp wraps up in the afternoon.

Why am I not surprised to learn that bb ran overweight?

:p

We are only 7 miles from the grain terminal, the DOT always sets up at the same place and as soon as they set up the news travels like wild fire, so we either take another route into town or just do different work for the day.
