Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

Accents in Atlanta, NPB. Alabama on the other hand, ye gads! <cue dualing banjos>

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

I barely notice any accents in ATL.

Only thing(s) that annoy me about Atlanta:
- everyone trying to sell me sweet tea.
- calling everything coke, even when its not.
- servers calling everyone "hon".
- roads make no sense whatsoever.
- transit outside of atl proper is non-existant.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

Its not Atlanta, I'm probably closer to the Tennessee-South Carolina-Georgia border than Atlanta. It is definitely up in the hills. The mountains are on the horizon, so I drove towards them before dinner, I drove for 15 minutes and my ears popped 3 times, there was some serious elevation change. Up in the hills further it looked just like you see im the movies, except it was mansions, golf courses, and vineyards.
What he's getting at is that you are in appalachia...you're just on the Georgia side...not in Southeast Ohio/West Virginia/Western NC/Kentucky...thats where you get the redneck feel and the sense that if it wasn't for moonshine these people would have nothing to live for...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

We should figure out who is interested for Vegas, since it is getting closer, and which days people would be interested in going.
I called TI about the promo they offered me (2 free nights). The closest to NYE I can get free is that Thursday (Dec 29th). However If I decide to pay for the 30th or 31st, I'd get a better a rate then normal and the resort fee is optional (incl. extras like internet, fitness center, etc.). So if someone wanted to split the cost of the room with me it would probably be super cheap.

86 at 10am down here in Mobile, Alabama. Grabbing fuel here in a bit, then continuing our journey north. May/May not be around much the next few days, as service in rural alabama can be... well, sparse.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

I've been told that I don't actually have a Yooper accent, that I have more of a southern one.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

...although I only use 'ya sure you becha in sarcastic mode.

While I don't really have much of the UP/Upper Midwest accent, I can lay it on pretty thick when I need to down here. Yah. Yah. Eh?

There are a few people in the construction industry here in Chicagoland that are from the UP/Northwoods of Wisconsin that have the accent bad. Even I cringe a little when I hear it.

Calumet/Laurium...West Virginia...what's the difference, really?
Well played, Mauer. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

I am the same way. Don't have much of the accent, but I can fly into it really easy if I feel like weirding outsiders out.

Closing on a house = win.

Closing on a house ON YOUR BIRTHDAY = epic meter broken.

All set to close July 21.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

Congrats!

What are you going to do with it?

Hide the bodies. :p

I'll live in it a couple years and re-evaluate. If I meet Twitch Girl I'll obviously want something bigger, but it's perfect for me for now. Very affordable too. The best part about this condo is I have options for what to do with it. I could sell it, or it'd probably be even better as a rental. Anchorage is out of room to expand, so that helps keep real estate prices high.

And for the killer home furnishing...I have no idea how I'm going to get my hands on one of these, but I want a pinball machine. I've checked Craigslist and a few local vending companies, but they don't have any machines I want. There are a particular few I'm after.

After four years in the UP, I could do it pretty well. I would come home on breaks and amuse/annoy my parents and friends with it.

In the living room you should buy a circular sofa (or sofas) and some chairs that can swivel, and place them in the center of the room and then put HD flatscreens on 3 of the walls (2-3 per wall!). Also they should be leather furniture. The 4th wall can have the entry way and a minibar. :)

Why would you need a bigger place for mrs Twitch? She would only need to be in the kitchen or bedroom.

Maybe the place to make sammiches isn't big enough. :D

When we were in Florida last February, we had a waiter ask us if we were Canadian.
