Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 129: Still got those Winter Blues...

Calling in my order for the happy hockey table. A win over Hunstville for the alma mater, and according to the PBP girl, my other team is ahead by 4 points () after 2 periods.

I'm just mad because you had to bring up Pam Ward!!!

So that's what clubbing a baby seal is like.

I actually used a baby seal to club a bald eagle tonight for a late night dinner. Ended up killing both of 'em. And they are tasty.

a little bit of seal bacon and then you take the hide and work it into a nice leather.

Have you finally accepted what the rest of us did weeks ago regarding the Gophers - that they just aren't any good and once again aren't going to amount to anything?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 129: Still got those Winter Blues...

We lost but I'll pull up to the happy hockey table tonight. Thought they played well and hung tough against the #1 team in the WCHA.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 129: Still got those Winter Blues...

Why don't you and scooby go make out in the corner? :p
How dare you equate me with him. He was negative even in the title years.

I've been a fan of this team since the late '80s - no matter how awful they are, I won't abandon them. I really have a problem with people being satisfied with the team playing well and losing games, though - because that is indicative of horrendously low expectations. With all the advantages this program has over others (tv contract, nice arena, well-funded), we should not be setting the bar this low. They should be in the hunt for a national title at least one year out of three, and they should be a lock for a top tier finish in the WCHA two years out of three. We're now on the fourth consecutive year of mediocrity / steaming pile of crap, and it's totally unacceptable. They aren't even selling out games anymore. They're advertising discounted tickets for the final series against Tech for ****'s sakes.

I never thought I'd see the day.

Whoa whoa whoa. I never said I was satisfied with a loss. Let's not jump to conclusions.

This. I drink the Kool-Aid every series. I'm legitimately mad after a loss. I'm ecstatic over any win. But I won't stop hoping this team can make a "Cinderella" run every year that they are subpar, like this year. For Parise's sake, we're hovering around .500, and many teams would LOVE for that to be their highlight. Is it bad for Gopher hockey? Sure. Is it bad overall? No.

So again, Scooby meet Bakunin, Bakunin meet Scooby. You'll get along swimmingly.

Careful when interacting with him though, Bakunin. He'll try to pessimise you to death.

You said you're at the happy hockey table tonight because they played well even though they lost. Being happy = being satisfied.

Not really. But when you make it through to stage five in the Kübler-Ross, head on over to the happy hockey table. I'll buy you a beer.

Hm, a par team (subpar if you consider the program) barely losing to a top team in the nation.......playing well.....it happens. Even if this were a GOOD Gopher team, and hearing how they played tonight, I'm satisfied with the effort, and not disappointed (per say) in the result. It sucks, but hey, on paper, we should have been blown out. It's all about context.

Still counts the same in the standings. And given the fact Patterson is one of the best goalies in the league, it's unlikely the team will be blown out in most of their games.

It's a shame Patterson's play is being wasted on such a mediocre team. MN could have used this type of goaltending in '06 and '07.

So, if this were a good Gopher team (record, play, and everything), would you be as mad if they lost in the same fashion as they did tonight?
