Marathon day here (apologies to those who actually run them): 100+ lollipops made of cake and icing to be made then dipped in chocolate and covered in sprinkles, pick up kid at school, lunches, snacks, clean up, homework/exams for online class, driving 5.5 hours to PA for the weekend, and clean kitchen (note not in order). I don't know how real parents do it ... heh, do it...I suppose they don't !

My dad called me at work and left a message saying it was urgent that I call him back. Well, I took a moment to call him, and he informed me that my mom passed away. I asked him twice to make sure he wasn't joking, and he was sure.

On my way home, I kept thinking this is some kind of joke, that when I get home, she'll be sitting up in bed and watching reruns of Law & Order, and I saw the hearse as I approached the driveway. I don't even know what to say, do, or think... at the very least, I know she's not suffering anymore.

Today is the start of "Parent's Weekend" at USAFA, where folks get to attend classes with their cadets and generally experience a bit of what they go through while here.

I enjoyed meeting many parents this morning, and I told them I have two major goals for the semester:
1) to convince these youngsters that the pinnacle of musical achievement was reached in the 1980s, and
2) to impress upon them the importance of college hockey, which season begins just 29 days from today.

We also cover some class-related material on occasion.

You partiers have a great weekend. Beer and cigars will inhabit my hours tonight!

Afternoon everybody. 1PM in NYC and still no sign of this Earl guy... a little breezy and cloudy, but otherwise nice. Looks like it isn't supposed to do much until around 5pm here, but it is just going to be a typical storm... winds to 20-30, some rain. Hopefully it doesn't do much to my weekend plans for Electric Zoo, a 2 day outdoor music festival tomorrow and Sunday.

I just finished having breakfast with a good buddy during which time we had a chance to catch up on one another's lives. It's always a treat getting to spend time with him and exchange points of views.

I hope everyone has an enjoyable holiday weekend. If you're going to have a drink or two please make sure to have a designated driver as there are too many sad stories regarding drunk driving accidents over holiday weekends. See you next week.
