Back from the reception; the food was awesome. Normally I go to these things, expecting a craptastic buffet and a cash bar. Tonight, it was a five-course meal, with appetizers (including petite quiche and Swedish meatballs), country vegetable soup, Caesar salad, bread, along with either lemon chicken or roast beef, green beans almondine, and twice-baked potatoes. As for drinks, there was an open bar along with wine and champagne at the table.

Some days, it's nice to have friends that are filthy rich....
All my filthy rich friends got divorced which made them not filthy rich:p

Dam, you are all young. :D :p
I was thinking the same thing. Depressing to think they were born after I was out of college.

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!! sunday, day of rest.

Howdy Kids
Lots of posts last night.

Good morning Lodge. Cloudy and dreary again, and humid as all hell.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #112: Son of "Filling in for the night shift"

The easterners are fun; Denver was epic. We completely took over a bar. Some of the locals tried to shut us up; it did not work so well. :p

Those locals felt our wrath getting chanted out of the bar.

Them - "shut up!"
Us - "no!" (chants and other obscene comments continue)
Them - "SHUT UP!"
Us - "NO!"
Them - "check please!"

basically, we proved we were awesome. :D

They really didn't appreciate the obscene version of Hail to the Victors.

shrader couldn't get served for a couple minutes because the bartender (from MI) was so mad. :D

Well, that was the best wedding I've been to.:D The best man and I pooled money together and bought the garter for $150 (here instead of throwing it...they auction it). Seeing as how he's married already...it was passed on to me. Plus we had 18 bottles of homemade liquor in the groom's sister's room...all cashed. :)

The last 45 minutes or so when it was over and we went to the bar next door (bartender was a perfect DHG twin) weren't very fun for me for what by now would be should be an obvious reason (only one in the wedding party to not). I'm apparently going to be talking to one of the bridesmaids about stuff on Monday.

"So, do you like... stuff?"

Morning, Lodge. Today's the big bottling day for my homebrew, so we'll see how that goes. Right now though, I promised Mom a flowering plant for her garden, and she wants to collect on it. :o

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #112: Son of "Filling in for the night shift"

This.
I, personally, justify it by knowing that I won't eat the entire plate while I'm there. I eat enough to where I'm satisfied but not stuffed, then get a box. Usually, I'm left with enough food for 2 more meals. Problem solved.
I'm with Diva. I'll order the 12oz rib-eye with the plan to only eat half (or less of it) at the restaurant and bring the rest home with me for dinner the next night.

This went unreplied to in the Diet & Exercise thread... but this issue is popping up again.

I'm looking into rec leagues in the area and I really could stand to get a good pair of gym shoes. Are there any particular recommendations out there? Any stores that might be of help? Can one go into a running store and get some reasonable advice?

My current "gym shoes" are a mess with no tread (they were no good in volleyball season but they're what I have). I'll be playing volleyball again at work in the fall/winter and I'm looking at contacting some "ball hockey" leagues or other sports along those lines... indoor soccer, other volleyball leagues... etc.
I think with anything else, look for something that is well made and sturdy, but most important is fit. It can be the greatest shoe in the world, but if it doesn't fit your foot right, it won't matter. And, yes, the different manufacturers do make their shoes differently. For example, I cannot wear most types of Nikes because they are too narrow.

And yes, a decent running store should be able to give you some advice on footwear.

Nerd. :p

I wasn't even a thought in my daddy's pants at that time.
I was, my parents were already dating for a year or two when Ralph graduated from HS. :o Though it was another 7 years before they got around to having kids.

I've never been in a bar with you and I don't know who your friends are. There is no possible way this had anything to do with you. You probably thought that song was about you. Didn't you?

I'm only 32, and my grandfather fought in in WWI. Think about that - he fought in the war where the tank was first introduced into combat. My parents were both born during the Depression. You want to talk out of left field?
 And I thought we were having kids late! Rob will be 64 or 65 when our little girl graduates from HS.

Robbie's mom is a depression era baby, she was born the day the market crashed. His dad was even older, same age as my grandparents. Which means that my oldest brother-in-law is the same age as Ralph Baer and Rob's oldest nephew is the same age as St. Clown and tCBG.

Likewise - I tend to buy New Balances for my wide feet and fairly high arches. Nikes are better if you have narrow feet and lower arches, and other brands have different characteristics that I can't remember offhand. Seconded on the running store advice.

For those of you keeping score from home an update on little g.

How about flat feet that tend to skew wide :p

There's a well regarded running store called Pacers down in Clarendon (neighborhood... 3/4 miles down the road)... I need to stop in at the bank 'cause UConn cut me my $25 co-op check so I'll do it on this coming Saturday.

Very nice, Little g is one tough little guy.:)

Been pulling fence down or maybe its just picking it up as its already down in a lot of spots. Kind of sad thinking about how much work it was to put it up and now I'm just pulling it out with the tractor.

I must have missed the part when little g started walking. My first thought was HEY- he is standing without anything!! So cool! What a miracle.

Thanks. He started walking unassisted in November. He walks most of the time without the walker unless long distances are required. Granted his walking is far from perfect but true to little g since birth he never gives up and he is always making progress.

Considering he isn't supposed to walk (if I recall correctly) this is amazing.
