Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 100: This Poll Sucks

Just signed the kid up for firearm safety training this spring. He'll need it if he ever wants to hunt (which he wants to try).
I took firearm safety, even though I didn't know if I'd want to hunt or not. I ended up going deer hunting with my dad and loved it. I've gone every year since.

Even if he never hunts in his life, firearm safety is a great course to take. In my opinion everyone should know how to handle a gun safely, even if they never have any intention of ever shooting one. With something like firearms, the more people that know how to safely handle them, the better off we all are.

Found out a hockey teammate is in the same FST class too so he'll know somebody. Kid wants to bow hunt primarily but doesn't really understand how good you need to be with a bow to actually hunt with one. Just cause you can hit a target *sometimes* while standing in the back yard doesn't mean you'll be able to make a clean kill form a stand.

I agree that everyone should take it, but it's... problematic for a lot of reasons. There would have to be a lot of change on the left and right for it to be most valuable.

Morning, Lodge.

Eff meteorologists.

"Maybe and inch on Monday night."

- Looks to be about four, possibly five here in Crapids.

This morning: "The difference in temperature from the north to the south made the bands of snow a little heavier than we thought."

- Alright, at you admitted that you were wrong.

Then, "Just snow in the northern Metro now, should be done by 9:00AM.

- You son of a *****. It is 11:00, and it is snowing just as hard as it ever has been in this "maybe an inch" storm.

Agreed on all points.

And good thing you decided to take up deer hunting. That's a mighty fine buck you took last season

^ This. Factor in 'buck fever' and the occasional need to hold your draw for a few minutes while you wait for a good shot, and the odds are a lot lower versus a rifle or even a slug gun. After twenty years and limited success, my dad switched to a crossbow this past year now that he's old enough (Michigan law is 50+) and his torn rotator cuff finally gave him a convenient excuse to buy one.

And like bb_dl pointed out, firearm safety is just a good thing to know.

Afternoon lodge.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 100: This Poll Sucks

My dad didn't hunt, but signed my up. I caught the bug right away and he had his hunting buddies take me out until I was 15 or so and my own friends and I started driving.
All of my kids were required to take FST because we had/have firearms in the house. Of course the guns are all kept in a big safe locked up tight.
The oldest enjoys hunting, the middle son doesn't and the youngest girl is the best shot of anyone in the family, shotgun, rifle and archery - truly gifted - but refuses to kill anything. That's fine. If I go shoot trap or need a deer rifle sighted in, she'll join me, which I appreciate. She'll also eat anything I serve from afield.

Well, if there are any junior riflery teams in the area (maybe coordinated with a R&G club), she might be interested in that. While the 'sport' of rifle is dying out, there are still numerous colleges with programs, and some give out $$$.

/rifle promotion.

She's 22 now and lives on her own. She'll still join me for sporting clays events occasionally, but it's too harsh of a schooling for my ego. ;)
I kid. It is humbling, but it's a good time and I love the look on other shooters when she whacks clay after clay and makes it look easy.

Agreed on all points.

I will second that.

Speaking of which, it has been quite a while since I have fired off a weapon or two. I might have to make it a point to do that in the near future.

I think I hear bb_dl drooling from here. :p

Practicing for riot control at the ttp? ;)

Well, it's Groundhog Day... again... and that must mean that we're up here at Gobbler's Knob waiting for the forecast from the world's most famous groundhog weatherman, Punxsutawney Phil, who's just about to tell us how much more winter we can expect.
Groundhogs, Goofers, they're all vermin and rodents to me.

ESPN's Streak for the Cash has this as a choice today to start a new round. I picked the "more winter" option.

Not really a sport, but whatever. :D
That should be only considered a sport if you're allowed to shoot the bugger. Woodchucks are "Critter non Grata" around here.

You said "member" twice in that post. Good job.

I think the hot ward clerk is interested in me - so I'm gonna see if she wants to go to a party next Friday.
Good luck with that, and go easy on her, just show her your "O" Face. ;)

Some are good-looking - and of course when they screw up and fall on their ***es, it's hilarious.

And I can think of far worse ways to die than being crushed between a flexible girl's thighs.
You do raise a good point. :D The Xenia Onnatopp is a pretty ok way of going if you gotta go. :D

Morning Lodge.

I'm supposed to be switching cubicles today. The guy that is supposed to switch my phone said something about being here between 8:30-9. Still not here. Can't sit at my desk waiting all day.

At least I was proactive and told my boss I wanted the nice, slightly larger cube at the end of the hall (which gets no traffic). Boss has been wanting me to move for awhile, my cube is kinda off by itself.
So, now you can spend more time at work goofing around on USCHO without having to worry about people sneaking up and seeing you goofing off?? ;) :D
