Re: Rep Lodge 80: In a row?

This post rules in so many ways.
I'm here to entertain.

Oh, and this is the second time he's started the potato debate. The first time was bad enough, but this time he tried to expand his theory that all tubers are not vegetables. Then he scaled it back down to just potatoes again after someone asked him about carrots being a vegetable or not.

In the office, the rest of us just refer to him as "Junior."

The one benefit to all of this, I learned more about the scientific definition of what makes one edible plant a fruit and another a vegetable. No, I didn't find it interesting at the time either. I'm just happy to have learned something today.

Re: Rep Lodge 80: In a row?

Isn't the general rule that a vegetable grows underground and a fruit above ground? :confused:

I have no idea, btw.

The vegetables are the plants where you eat the stalk, root, or something along those lines. The fruit is when you eat the seed (more or less) of the plant.

One of the sources I was given as the idiot finally relented his potato quest was this:

http://ask.yahoo.com/20010411.html

Ask Dr. Dictionary, a feature of Dictionary.com, provides a succinct explanation:

A fruit is actually the sweet, ripened ovary or ovaries of a seed-bearing plant. A vegetable, in contrast, is an herbaceous plant cultivated for an edible part (seeds, roots, stems, leaves, bulbs, tubers, or nonsweet fruits). So, to be really nitpicky, a fruit could be a vegetable, but a vegetable could not be a fruit.

The Nutriquest team offers a similar answer, adding that most fruits are sweet because they contain a simple sugar called fructose, while most vegetables are less sweet because they have much less fructose. The sweetness of fruit encourages animals to eat it and thereby spread the seeds. The site also presents an interesting list of fruits that are often thought to be vegetables:
* tomatoes
* cucumbers
* squashes and zucchini
* avocados
* green, red, and yellow peppers
* peapods
* pumpkins

We had someone collapse today in the store. Luckily, the person who saw it decided that she would argue over what to do with a head cashier (they both can't stand each other) instead of either of them doing anything like call an ambulance and follow procedure like me and our HR did. I'm sure they helped her a lot more than either of us...

Re: Rep Lodge 80: In a row?

Junior? You work with whiplash? So that's where he went.
Whiplash would actually be a lot of fun in the office, I think.

Well, this guy is a lot of fun, but not for reasons he wants to be. He started debating gay marriage with the lesbian that sits behind me one day. He didn't know she is a lesbian for another few weeks after that discussion - even though she'd told us all that she is one quite a few times before that. He thought we were dating. Not joking here.

Re: Rep Lodge 80: In a row?

Sigh, our good friend who clearly must own the message boards decided to neg rep me, after I pos repped a this post of his in the Yankees thread. Go figure, I didn't partake in the carpet bombing, but once I spread, I will add to the second carpet bombing he will endure this week.

I repped him something like "posts like these actually make you a likable guy"

His response:
No, being awesome makes me a likable guy. If you were to stop stalking me, that might make you slightly more likeable.

Ohhhhh, if only I could be an internet tough guy:rolleyes:

He must have been missing his drugs last night. He was posting stuff directed at me that sounded so much like my brother (when he was 10) that I was having flash backs to standing in the hall of my old house thinking 'you must be kidding'. Stuff like that makes me feel sorry for the person. Pretty empty life when it consists of posting stuff to get a rise out of a perfect stranger. It is one thing if you are actually humorous, like Dirty; RCs stuff is kind of pathetic in an embarrasing way.

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!! friday is here but not the good part

Re: Rep Lodge 80: In a row?

Good morning Lodge.

I'm watching my fav morning news program (the weather guy is so cute). During the Summer they do Friday trips to different local communities to promote festivals, activities, etc. So today, the day I'm buying my house and moving away from Canton the news program is in Canton talking about all the great things to do and how safe the community is.

I saw RC and thought, "What does 'diva's ex have to do with any of this?"

Ask Dr. Dictionary may be a learned scholar, but it's quite obvious the good doctor has never met some of the members of THE LODGE.

For instance take gmann and West Texas Wolverine. Each of them is simultaneously a fruit and vegetable. Proceed with caution. Need I say more? :D

Re: Rep Lodge 80: In a row?

Morning All!

After being quite productive all week, I feel like being lazy today...
I still think you're going to destroy that transmission. :p At least, if it's the Peugeot box - the Aisin Warner is mostly bulletproof even with smallblock V-8s.
I have my fingers crossed for the Aisin, but I have a bad feeling that it is the Peugeot. I am going to figure out which it is tonight after work. If it has the Peugeot, I will be buying a different transmission before installing the new engine. I really don't feel like shredding the poor Peugeot tranny.

Re: Rep Lodge 80: In a row?

Morning.

It's five-o-clock somewhere....right? :)

Yup! Bottoms up. :)

Morning, kids! Another day at the office :rolleyes: , but it's the weekend starting at 4:45pm today and I saw a wicked good concert last night (Haunted's band) and took 1100+ pics (granted, no idea how many will end up being usable).

Re: Rep Lodge 80: In a row?

So, to be really nitpicky, a fruit could be a vegetable, but a vegetable could not be a fruit.
If said fruit is considered a vegetable, then it is a vegetable, which leads to...

Food item X is a fruit. X can also be considered a vegetable. Therefore, X is a vegetable. It then follows that X is a vegetable which is also a fruit.

Therefore, I decree that all fruits and/or vegetables be lumped together into one, new category: Fruigebles (pronounced FROO-ja-bulls).
