Re: Religion Thread: We Could Say a Prayer

Jerry Jr. is truly the poster boy for ending the tax exempt status of religious orgs.

This is a poster boy for why Christianity gets a bad name. That is not Christianity.

Ugh, since you said that now we’ll all get lectured about all the amazing things that only Christians are capable of doing ;)

Well, I guess if you like predictability then you will be happy? I think you are safe. I might be on ignore for asking one too many unanswerable questions trying to understand how the point of view could be congruent with Scripture. :D

Re: Religion Thread: We Could Say a Prayer

And then les will side with us on a few points, and be accused of betraying the faith! :D
It is that horrible UU upbringing of mine. Then following Luther's lead of asking the tough question and trying to answer it in the context of Scripture vs Doctrine. It isn't so much siding with anyone as it is asking how this makes sense according to Scripture or history. Tough, unanswerable questions. Easier to accuse me of heresy than examine the question :p

I am still bemused by the amount of vitriol I provoke by asking things I truly want the answer to. Convince me logically then I am all good.

Edit- I try not to respond as I don't get a thoughtful answer. You know the meme about think about what you are going to achieve before you post. I fail every little while

Global sex slavery and human trafficking is one of the world's great problems. Here are 7 groups that are fighting human trafficking (this is a faith thread so it will include those with a faith background):

1.Agape International Missions: This group seeks to stop human trafficking in Cambodia. The California based group started as a church planting group, but since has been committed since 2005 to ending child sexual slavery.

2.COATNET: This organization, COATNET, which stands for Christian Organizations Against Trafficking in Human Beings, links Christian groups, including the Catholic Church, to internationally fight the problem.

3.Covenant House: This group focuses on homeless children in the United States, who are a vulnerable group for human trafficking. This group estimates that 1 in 3 homeless kids will be approached by a human trafficker within 48 hours of being on the streets. The ministry provides housing and necessities, it also advocates for laws to protect children and put an end to human trafficking.

4.Faith Alliance Against Slavery and Trafficking: FAAST is a joint effort of several Christian organizations against human trafficking. It is an arm of the group World Relief, which also seeks to help refugees of all kinds. The group provides training and research as well as promoting collaboration between member organizations on the issue.

5.Compassion 2 One: This Seattle-based organization works to save children from sex trafficking. The group promotes education and awareness of child abduction and trafficking that happens throughout the world. The group also promotes a “Protect-her” movement that encourages men to take a pledge not to participate in activities that support the sex trade including pornography and prostitution.

6.Joyce Meyer Ministries:The Hand of Hope ministry supported my Joyce Meyer Ministries works in Thailand, Ethiopia, Eastern Europe, Cambodia and the United States. The ministry focuses on offering housing as a way out of the sex trade for women who have been coerced into trafficking and prostitution as a way out of poverty.

Now can we hear more about how bad people are that are different than you?

This could have been written by / about Kierkegaard.

Re: Religion Thread: We Could Say a Prayer

I will accept stock tips from you. Your accuracy is amazing. And so prompt!

Working to improve the world, one post at a time.

So here's on overview of Agape International.

The problem - Over 260,000 people are living in modern day slavery in Cambodia

The story - After learning about the issue of sex trafficking in Cambodia in 2005, Don and Bridget Brewster sold their home, Don gave up his position as Executive Pastor of Adventure Christian Church in Roseville, CA, and they moved to Cambodia to lead Agape International Missions (AIM).

Since 2005, Agape International Missions has been focused on stopping the cycle of sex trafficking and exploitation in Cambodia by preventing human trafficking and rescuing, restoring, and reintegrating survivors.

Our first project was focused on restoring girls who were rescued out of sex trafficking. Today, we have 12 programs that stop human trafficking through a holistic strategy. Learn about our programs here.

The Approach - Defeating a complex, decentralized problem like child sex trafficking requires a holistic strategy that involves survivors, law enforcement and the community. Our programs PREVENT sex trafficking, and work to RESCUE, RESTORE and REINTEGRATE survivors of this horrible crime. Through this approach, AIM is committed to lifelong and community-wide transformation that is effective and lasting.

Re: Religion Thread: We Could Say a Prayer

You've got that one backwards...it argues against being negative on those different than you.

Perhaps you should read the bible instead of hitting people with it. We are quite a pair: one who thinks it's a fairy tale but takes its message seriously and one who thinks it's the word of God and ignores it in his everyday life.

Pretty sure I know which one's going to heaven.
