Religion Thread: We Could Say a Prayer

Re: Religion Thread: We Could Say a Prayer

What percent of the Catholic church officials and international ministries, such as those delivering fresh water to the third world, would you say knew nothing of rape or its cover up?

Rumors of priest rape were so common it was a staple joke. My guess is many of the low level staff (priests, etc) knew and practically everybody above them (in supervisory roles) knew.

It was like cigarette companies and cancer.

And everyone on the east coast must be an a hole. I hear jokes about it all the time.

Re: Religion Thread: We Could Say a Prayer

I’ve lived on the east coast and won’t argue with that :)

Exactly so.

To be fair, not the whole coast. Just DC and above. I have found this hypothesis to have a lot of support.

Re: Religion Thread: We Could Say a Prayer

Its been another great year for charities. As this is a religious thread, we'll look at how faith based organizations did.

Indeed, Christian based or founded organizations maintained a whopping 84% of total revenue of the top 20 global charities. They included thirteen of the top 20 charities. Now of course, these contributions come from all parts of society. But as always, its great to see the facilitation role that faith and all other corners continue to play in improving peoples lives.

Re: Religion Thread: We Could Say a Prayer

Because the spirit of charity is bragging about it.

And none of those charities gets money from completely secular sources. Habitat might be a christian organization, but the builds I see in the Twin Cities are almost always staffed by companies who want their employees to give back. I love doing Habitat builds, but being a christian organization doesn't move the needle for me, or really anyone else in my department.

As it should be. The Christian faith is about walking in Jesus path - and that includes healing those in need as per the miracles. Those setting up faith-based and non faith-based charities facilitate that a millionfold.

...Let peace reign.

Not a chance. This "war" will last long after I'm dead and gone. Hate has taken over reason. And it's not new. They were blowing each other up in Palestine/Israel in the 40s.

(Yea, it's a year old)

BTW, Kep anything in Catholic music published after 1965 needs to be burned (particularly Haugen and Schutte) with the possible exception of James McMillian. Current church music directors need to be locked up in a room with recordings of The Sixteen until either their heads explode or they get with the program.

The Anglicans have us murdered in Church music. We couldn't field a decent church choir that would compete with their 3rd tier.

Oh for this..

Fyi, this was the old LA Cathedral of Saint Vibiana that was severely damaged in the Northridge earthquake and replaced by the Taj Mahoney.

Re: Religion Thread: We Could Say a Prayer

So my church is doing a special Service of Renaming for me next week Wednesday, and this liturgy was written by transgender Episcopalians.

My pastor let me pick the scripture and the music, and we're listening to Norah Jones and Sara Bareilles in church on Wednesday, April 3, at 5:30 PM.

What I was thinking was going to be a small turnout looks to be 30 people already.

Re: Religion Thread: We Could Say a Prayer

They can't help themselves.

An opening prayer from a Republican lawmaker at the Pennsylvania state House proclaiming her Christian beliefs has drawn backlash as it took place the same day the first Muslim woman was sworn into the body.

During freshman state Rep. Stephanie Borowicz’s (R) opening prayer, she repeatedly praised Jesus and asked for forgiveness for those who have forgotten him, according to a report from Penn Live.

Borowicz’s prayer drew increased scrutiny because it took place right after the House swore in state Rep. Movita Johnson-Harrell (D), the first Muslim woman to serve in the Pennsylvania House.

Johnson-Harell’s family and friends were reportedly in attendance for the swearing in and the subsequent prayer.

“At the name of Jesus, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess Jesus, that you are Lord,” Borowicz said.

She also thanked Jesus that President Trump “stands beside Israel unequivocally.”

Johnson-Harrell told the Pennsylvania Capital-Star that the prayer was “highly offensive to me, my guests, and other members of the House.”

“It blatantly represented the Islamophobia that exists among some leaders — leaders that are supposed to represent the people,” Johnson-Harrell said in a statement to the publication via text message.

House Speaker Mike Turzai (R) appeared to attempt to cut off Borowicz as she was near the end of her prayer.

House Minority Whip John Harris (D) told Penn Live in a statement that Borowicz used her religion and the prayer to "intimidate, demean and degrade” Johnson-Harrell.

Re: Religion Thread: We Could Say a Prayer

Well I guess those two won't be having lunch together anytime soon...

Well, they might if Johnson-Harell is as much of an as-shole of a Muslim as Borowicz is of a Christian.

Because, pssst, they're exactly the same delusion.

What a world.

Aquinas and Kant lived here, and there are the many likes of her. Ragged claws scuttling across the floors of silent seas.

Great to hear. That's one pretty amazing church. How many organizations religious or otherwise do things like that?
