It's not that you necessarily know more about the Bible, it's that some believers like to conveniently forget about the parts that are too progressive (or conservative) for their taste.

Have a hard-on for war with Iran/Muzzies? Jesus said "turn the other cheek".

LGBT? Several passages within the Bible clearly abhor it.

Staunch capitalist? Jesus told his followers to sell everything and give the money to the poor.

Prefer socialism? Jesus told a guy jilted out of his "share" of the family inheritance to basically get bent.

My hot take? Just salt and burn all religious texts. If anything, they were written by agents of the Devil to divide the world. ;)

Reason why I stopped reading the f-cking thing. For as much as I hear "context matters," it appears we can ignore context when it comes to certain things.

Have not seen it, but it looks interesting. Rock seems to be positing that the concept of belief makes for problematic outcomes...but that the core of the ideas are great. In other words, the road of belief if it leads to poor outcomes is not productive...but what is really, really important is sticking to destination or the idea of Christ like treating other people well. Definitely validity there.

Heaven knows there's tons of criticism on the thread of Christians that don't stick to the destination or the idea. Frankly there's tons criticism of Christians based on the road the take or just that some have faith at all. But my question is...for those who claim to get to the destination (of the Christian doing well for others) without taking the road (Christian path)...how do you know you've arrived at Christ like approach of treating others well? Why is there constant criticism here? Why aren't you talking about the positives out there and about making the world a better place?

But if I did as you propose...prove me wrong by showing the 'treat others well' perspective or at minimum, help to reduce criticisms of others on the thread.
