Re: Religion: Catholics, Episcopalians, Atheists, All Are Welcome!

Only infallible on matters of faith and morals.

Ergo, when Francis pontificates on political issues (such as the Trump border wall), he's not infallible.

It's worth noting, while Francis has given lip service to more compassion for LGBT+ folks, he hasn't exactly made sweeping doctrinal changes on the matter. The way Joe sometimes talks, you'd think the guy had singlehandedly issued a landmark papal bull legitimizing same-sex marriage. :D

all political issues are moral issues

Not to mention the church is not compatible with good morals.

Perhaps not, but if you weren't a conservative Christian you were automatically a suspicious, or flat-out bad person in their eyes. So I consider any quibbles over "denomination" a rather moot point.

Timothy A. loved both kinds of people: country and western.

I never knew this. I vaguely reading homophobic stuff from both of them from the time Obergefell happened, but now that you mention it... **** THEM.

Been awhile since we've dealt with Bob "Crown of Thorns" Gray, but yeah he regularly liked to claim Xtians were being persecuted by us intolerant progs.

I think there were times the royal you wanted to give him the cross, the hammer, and the nails.

5mn_major said atheists contributed nothing to society, then took the Bible out of context to prove his point.

As an Episcopalian, I took him to task on that one.

Re: Religion: Catholics, Episcopalians, Atheists, All Are Welcome!

That was part of his routine, that and reducing the Bible to the four Gospels and disregarding the rest.

OK, I take back the part about Timothy A then. I don't remember his shtick.

Re: Religion: Catholics, Episcopalians, Atheists, All Are Welcome!

One thing I remember about Timothy A is he was a proud Lutheran, and actually welcomed people to the Lutheran synod in his area.

Either way, him and Bob Gray would be piling on the transphobia right about now.

He’s Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. Look up the denomination and you have him pegged - fundamentalist literalist new world sort.

I heard a brilliant NPR show this morning in which Terry Gross interviews this woman who left the Westboro Baptist Church family. Fascinating, smart, deeply ethical, difficult.

Maybe he finally got together with his dream girl, Jan Brewer.

I'm just happy to be part of a church where I'm not only welcome to worship there, I can actively participate there. I've done coffee hour a few times and it's been a blast. It really helps when the Rector is a lesbian, the Assistant is gay, and I'm a happy member of the family.

And yes, burd, there are Republicans there. I notice they don't talk to me.
