Regional Rankings are up!

Re: Regional Rankings are up!

I don't disagree that a tougher schedule is needed, but I don't see the same knocks on Norwich this year who played the same schedule as Castleton, and then Platty 2 times, Nichols and Manhattanville and Middlebury...Castletons out of League opponents of Becker(7-1) Brockport(5-1),Morrisville(9-2) team that beat both Oswego and Plattsburg,Johnson & Wales(5-0) and Potsdam(6-2) were easy wins...so don't get me wrong as I agree that a tougher schedule is needed but don't totally discount the season they have had this year after a dismal 9-12-5 season a year ago.

I don't think anyone is discounting the season they have had this year. They have a good record, the team should feel good about themselves for what they have done. At the same time it does not mean they deserve an at large bid if it comes down to that, soley based on the numbers and the foggy room. A team does not get a bid based on improvement from the season before.

Absolutely, Castleton had a great year and beat the teams on their schedule they were supposed to beat and some that they weren't! They have to get an ooc schedule that include teams they beat that they are not supposed to beat. That will help in the future.

I don't think in any of my posts I have said they deserve an at large bid! My only point is there are so many on this board that feel only the "good ol boys" are deserving of any consideration at all and questioning how teams can or can't be ranked by anyone...I do think Castleton would play with anyone and feel that there are some on here that think they are the only ones that know anything about hockey

Re: Regional Rankings are up!

The first rankings are not going to matter that much out West anyway. The proof will come after Adrain plays MSOE and after the first round of the NCHA play-offs. The bottom line is that the West will do anything and everything to get 4 teams in the field and to have those 4 teams playing down to two teams going to the final 4 at the Western venue at Ridder Arena. Win% has always been an item that has been used by the East to keep Western teams out.

I hear you on that one! I think there are way to many people on this board that look at past performance as an indication of where they should be ranked now. If that was the case we might as well just put Middlebury and Norwich in the finals before we even start the playoffs. That's why I think the rankings are bs. The BCS is messed up, the USCHO poll is messed up, and the ncaa hockey rankings are messed up. Unfortunately we have to deal with these imperfect systems as best we can. If Castleton doesn't get an at large bid, I won't be suprised at all.

The opinions of the "good ol boys" don't count, so ignore them.
The opinions of the NCAA committee and their flawed process at ranking do count and can't be ignored.
At least you have a chance to prove it on the ice. So win your conference.
There is no argument you can win here.

This too is unfair and agreed the NCAA needs to figure a way to have better balance as I know there are some very good teams in the West, as for Castleton it will be a moot point if they don't win both games this weekend then their only hope will be to win the ECAC East Tourney and even if they do win both and loose in the finals of the tourney not sure it will be enough.

Re: Regional Rankings are up!

OHHH Adrian!!!!

What is ironic is the fact that Castleton still has a shot at an AQ. As far as I am concerned Pool C is for losers. If you win your league you are in. If you get a Pool C, you are a lucky fan, because your team wasn't a champion, but gets to play against champions. The Adrain complaint was a little more valid. They were league champions but didn't get a bid. Whoever wins the MASCAC can make that argument. Castleton is not entitled to that argument.

In any case the metrics are what the metrics are. SOS is important. SOS has been used in creating the NCAA East rankings. Live with it. If your team wins the ECAC E, congratulations. If they don't see ya next year. If they do, and NU doesn't get a Pool C bid, I'd be disappointed, but not angry. It's happened before.

Win your tournament and forget all the rest.

Agree 100%
win and your in
Lose and go home

NU has won Regular season title before and lost ECAC E TOURNAMENT and not gone to NCAA's
