Regional Attendance

Re: Regional Attendance

An interesting article about how to solve the regional attendance issues from Penn State student sports reporter.
Interesting and original. I do think the author is wrong about fans being willing to sit through 4 consecutive games on a Super Saturday. Then there's the inevitable "not enough locker rooms" objection. But you'd sell a lot of tickets, and probably have decent numbers in the stands throughout the day.

I still like my plan better. But I applaud the author's creativity.

If your an adult you should be able to sit through 4 games. Now if you bring the kids and such that will be almost impossible.

Re: Regional Attendance

Actually 12 teams is not enough.
When you throw in a handful of conference champions suddenly that # 8 team in the country could be outside looking in.
What would have the tournament looked like if only 12 teams have made it in?

Re: Regional Attendance

So the lower seeds not only have to visit a hostile arena, but their fans don't even get to watch on TV? Yeah, sign me right up for that.
Local coverage by a broadcast channel or cable system would be an option. Web streams have gotten better and are actually watchable now. I was talking about national coverage, available on cable/satellite TV.

And for the visiting teams fans that are truly passionate? Require a visiting team ticket allotment, and let them make the trip.

As for the hostile arena thing, did you ever compete in sports -- at any level -- on the road? Believe me, I was never an elite level athlete. But my experience in sports is that I preferred competing against an opposing crowd, not mausoleum quiet. While I'm sure that opinion isn't universal, I have to believe I'm in the majority on this.

"Should Be Able" and "Will" are two different things. You'd do it. I'd do it. We're fans of the sport. We're also in a small minority. The majority will only sit in the stands to watch their own team play. Most of the rest would check out the second game of a double-header, but are unlikely to do more than that.

Re: Regional Attendance

I am what you call a fanatic lol. I love sports. I would sit through hours of most sports. 4 games is really only what 12 hours of hockey. Its a marathon. How if they did that you would have to let people go outside and get air and such and come back in. But yes i agree with you most people only care about their team and they will only sit for their game. I just think thats dumb. Go watch as much of the sport as you can. Were i live i dont really live near any big time college hockey so it stinks that i dont get to a lot of games.

If #8 doesn't like it they should have finished #7 or better.
