Red Berenson: America's Sorest Loser

Re: Red Berenson: America's Sorest Loser

To rip on b*tchy people who can't find it within themselves to move beyond a nearly decade-old questionable call, apparently.

At least you admit it was questionable, took 10 years to get that admission:D

Re: Red Berenson: America's Sorest Loser

Just the fact that Michigan got 9 penalties and UMD only 4 tells me nothing about the officiating. Could it be that Michigan actually committed 9 infractions? Power Play goals were not the deciding factor in Michigan's loss. I agree that "cherry picking" a comment regarding officiating out of a lengthy interview isn't necessarily fair, but unfortunately, that's today's media style.

Re: Red Berenson: America's Sorest Loser

I am still lookin for the goal that never was against Omaha.....irreputable evidence ????......anytime Michigan loses its a great day......coach and fans are all ***holes

During my freshman year of undergrad I took a logic course. I seem to remember one of the basic fallacies being hasty generalizations....

way to generalize. If you would look at things with an unbiased eyes, you would see that the Michigan fan base is actually one of the classier fan bases above those of the UP which chant racist slurs at African American players or some sparty fans which sexually assault opposing female fans as the walk out of Munn.

Re: Red Berenson: America's Sorest Loser

I know. They could get some pointers from Ogie Ogelthorpe or Bob Probert, right? :D

Yeah, I'm expecting billmich and Michfan or all those other guys who claim "envy because you [allegedly] hate us" to apologize, since I apparently am so jealous of MI I hate them. ;)

Great game, whole crowd was on edge. If there is any hope at all for this sport to grow on tv, this game helped it. Big crowd, big (cough cough) ratings I hope, huge in-person turnout.

We do have the most NCAA championships and 20 straight NCAA appearances...

I see fans all the time rip on the Michigan fan base for being classless. Yet, I never see any evidence outside of the student section. Hmmm.....

Re: Red Berenson: America's Sorest Loser

Let's see...
WCHA fans piling on Michigan: Check
WCHA fans piling on Red: Check
WCHA fans piling on the CCHA: Check
UNO fans still mad about the goal, no matter how many times you show them the video with the puck over the line: Check

Still the most banners hanging in any college building in America. Haters gonna hate. Red gets results at your expense. What more can we expect?

If that's Michigan arrogance, fine with me. Proud of my Michigan degree hanging on the wall, and I'm proud of the way our program represents our University, led by one of the greatest players in any sport to wear the block M.

A'freakin men

I am glad UNO is out of the CCHA. Let the WCHA deal with them. They will hate that school as much as the CCHA did in a year or two.

Re: Red Berenson: America's Sorest Loser

I believe our total count on "The Victors" was 44 for the weekend. We had a bet among our group. It is a great fight song, albeit with typically arrogant lyrics.

I admire the Michigan Hockey program, although I root for another. I like Red Berenson, and lets face it, he doesn't have much experience at being interviewed after a loss.

Even as a recent graduate of the University of Michigan, I have to admit the fans are among the worst I have seen. Yost Arena is notorious for fans spitting and throwing drinks on opposition fans. It's the only place I have heard children cursed at by adults because they wear the opposition colors. I know, I know, the majority of fans are OK. They just seem to have a higher percentage of jerks, and more importantly, the other fans tolerate, and are even amused by this sort of behavior. Minus the boorishness, the atmosphere is fantastic.

bull. I have been going to Yost for longer than I can remember and I have never seen one fan throw a drink or spitting on other fans. Outside of the naughty words from the student section, going to Yost is more opposing fan friendly than Munn or at Miami's arena. I had one female friend get her butt grabbed by multiple sparties as she was leaving the arena. I also had one friend get cussed out by Rico Blasi when she sat behind the Miami bench with a Michigan jersey and cheer for a michigan goal.

The worst I have seen at Yost was the FU State chant after Kampfer was assaulted on ice by sparty.

Re: Red Berenson: America's Sorest Loser

Re- the band- especially the fight song and "lets go blue"- These are very short songs- ones that can fit into very tight areas- including starting and getting through most of it during a stoppage. THAT is why you hear it so much.

Heck, in the time it takes to do a normal TV timeout, the band is able to play the entire fight song- not just the repeat parts you hear. They also do the Temptation thing since it's short, and the fans have gotten into a cheer like thing.

The fact that it gets under the opponents fans skin- well, that's just a bonus.

MSU and Notre Dame can do the same thing with similar songs. At least games I've been to. Oddly enough, OSU is still working on something that short.

Again, I think a lot of why you hear the same thing- time, and duration.

Re: Red Berenson: America's Sorest Loser

I will never forget seeing a young father leading his young son & daughter out of Yost after the student section sang/chanted
obscene verses. The little girl was in tears. The officials at Yost seem to think that this type of behavior is "cute". Yost is far from "fan friendly", but other schools (Cornell comes to mind) are quite similar. I remember several years ago an assistant coach
for an East coast D1 telling me that he cold hear the obscenities loud and clear over the radio as he traveled towards Detroit on
the 401.

There is a reason yost is rated PG-13...I am sorry but Yost is infinitely more fan friendly than going into the Lions den of Munn or Miami. At least at Yost you will not get physically or sexually assaulted. When I have kids I would rather have them hear a few dirty words than see opposing fans getting assaulted, like it typically happens in East Lansing.

Re: Red Berenson: America's Sorest Loser

You can add some embellishing too. Being a ref isn't easy. Red was clearly frustrated with the whistle happy crew. On Thursday night, Kevin Lynch from Michigan got called for an embellishment, where a 250 lb Sioux d-man MacWilliam interfered with him. MacWilliam got the call, and nearly fell over himself after impeding Lynch. Lynch then goes down after bumping into power forward Malone from NoDak and it evens up.

Everybody embellishes at least a little bit in every sport. Take, for instance, soccer. Guy goes down acting like his leg has just been amputated, then a minute later he's fine. I played water polo in high school, and there's some embellishment there to try and draw the foul (in water polo whistle means go, not stop). It happens in every sport. I'm not saying it's right, but it does happen.

why do you park in driveways, and drive on parkways??..... this is some great Larry King wisdom here....

You forget the physical assaults on MSU fans at Yost. And the ****** you state chants from the classy MI students. The spitting on older visiting fans in the arenda. No, UM fans and students are some for the most classless fans in the game.

Got proof because I know you don't. I was at that in game in section 17. The only sparty that was even close to being assaulted was Tropp after Kampfer's dad attempted to get into MSU's locker room. No sparty fans were assaulted or spit on. Thanks for lying. The only classless thing that happened from Michigan fans was the FU state chant.

liar

Last time I was at Munn, I had a drunk MSU fan get into my wife's face after sparty won in OT. All we were doing was walking out of the arena as quickly as we could because I know the reputation of drunk sparties. Do I really have to bring up cedar fest?
