Re: Red Berenson: America's Sorest Loser
And yet, Michigan is the only school you hear this complaint about, or at least you hear it more about Michigan. I'm used to a band playing a fight song (a) when the team comes on the ice for warmups and at the beginning of periods, and (b) when the team scores a goal. That would be 13 times for Michigan, and yet by one count, it was more than three times that number this weekend.
Once again not trying to argue, and I thank you for giving us an insiders view, but please understand that it is annoying to neutral fans.

Thanks for posting the whole interview. After reading it, I believe that the writer was either trying to make Berenson look bad, or was trying to quote Berenson to make his own (the writer's) point. In either case, bad writing.
My opinion after the semifinals was that about the only thing that Michigan did wrong on Thursday (that was as close to perfect a game plan and execution of a game plan as I've ever seen) was to take some stupid penalties, and I thought that might hurt them on Saturday, especially in light of UMD's outstanding power play. Turns out that it did hurt them, not because of giving up goals, but because they used up a lot of energy on the PK. On the shift they gave up the winning goal, they looked gassed.
Not to be argumentative here, but don't all bands play under the same circumstances? It's a bit different in a tournament situation, where there's some hack in the arena's front office dictating to the bands (via headset) when they can or can't play, and when you get about 15 seconds every two or three stoppages (which seemed to be the optimistic scenario at all four NCAA Tournament weekends I played at with the MHB), and your team may not be playing particularly well, you go with the short and sweet: The Victors, and Let's Go Blue. If you go to Yost, it's quite a bit different.
