Quinnipiac Bobcats offseason: Redemption in Philadelphia 2014

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats offseason: Redemption in Philadelphia 2014

As always, thanks for the recap of the banquet Mark! I remember going to the banquets back when they were at Eli's.
My pleasure. Next year it's likely going to be held on the basketball court as it's outgrown the University Club. On Saturday there were 3 tables out on the basketball balcony because the main room was full. Luckily, many of the players opted to sit out there so that the others attending could see and hear the presentations which I thought was a really classy gesture on their part.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats offseason: Redemption in Philadelphia 2014

First Quinnipiac player to ever dress for an NHL game.
I spent a lot of time this season talking with Eric's dad, Kevin, at games. He captained the Minnesota Gophers in 1979 under the legendary Herb Brooks, and was a long-time coach of Sioux Falls in the USHL. Simply put, the man knows hockey and coached many kids in D-I... I could have talked to him for hours if he let me. ;)

As a dad, he was as proud of Eric as you would expect. He told me a few months back that playing in the NHL has been Eric's dream since he was a young child, as I'm sure it is for everyone who laces 'em up. To have that dream come true tonight, even if it's a backup role, has to be an incredible feeling for both he and his dad.

As happy as I am for Eric, I'm equally happy for his dad (and mom, too). I wonder if they'll be in attendance in Ottawa tonight? How cool would that be for them?

Thank You Tim Taylor for all you did for USA, Yale, College and Quinnipiac Hockey. Quinnipiac would not be where we are today, without your help. Hockey Heaven is now an even better place!

We picked up another commitment for 2013-14 in defenseman Derek Smith who has played most recently for the Coulee Region Chill of the NAHL.

This gives us 12 freshman for 2013-14 season.

Saw this on Twitter:

I had the pleasure of meeting Eric's mom and dad this season. His dad, Kevin, played for the legendary Herb Brooks at Minnesota and coached in the USHL for a long time. Not only does he know hockey, he's a great guy and willing to talk about anything. He's been writing for the Let's Play Hockey web site this season. Here is but one example of his work.

I wish nothing but the best for Eric (as I'm sure we all do), but as a parent, I hope his parents are enjoying the pride of knowing all their hard work is paying off.

To Eric, and the rest of this year's seniors, thank you for a great 4 years (5 for President Bui) and may all of your dreams come true!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats offseason: Redemption in Philadelphia 2014

Any word on when the finalized schedule is being released?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats offseason: Redemption in Philadelphia 2014

It's never been "officially" released before the start of school IIRC. Sometime in late August or early September it will magically appear on the website.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats offseason: Redemption in Philadelphia 2014

Peter Quenneville named to 2nd team all USHL.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats offseason: Redemption in Philadelphia 2014

Hey Quinny... come back to the AHA. We saved a spot for you!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats offseason: Redemption in Philadelphia 2014

The Saturday after Thanksgiving, you will have UMASS at home.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats offseason: Redemption in Philadelphia 2014

Your schedule is almost complete; a series with Maine has been figured out. I would predict your home/home with UMASS-Lowell to be around the weekend of December 13th/14th. However, the very first weekend of play is also a possibility (unlikely, but based upon when you played Maine last year, possible).

That makes for 9 games against Hockey East opponents, 3 vs. AHA former foes, and a game vs. each of the Alaska schools.
